How Computer Technology Will Transform Schools Of The Future

How Computer Technology Will Transform Schools Of The Future | Government cancer treatment | Scoop.it

Nearly every other industry has been changed beyond recognition by the invention of computers. Why not education, arguably one of the industries with the most to gain?

The answer is probably some combination of rank incompetence, institutional conservatism, and perverse incentives.

Un nuevo ciclo escolar inicia y el sistema educativo sigue igual.....¿qué elementos podemos incorporar que se adapten a la nueva necesidad de aprendizajes en donde todo cambia de manera continua?

Rosemary Tyrrell's curator insight, August 26, 7:51 PM
Nik Peachey's insight:

A very technology orientated view, but well worth a read.

I would add to what Nik says. It's more than a tech view, it's quite dismissive of the role of the teacher. For example: "That one headset and computer could replace traditional textbooks, teacher time, educational props, and field trips, which cost far more than a VR headset."

I love, love, love technology and fun new toys, but I suspect it's going to be a loooong time before we can replace all of the above with one VR headset. When it comes to spending money on technology in education, we must be quite strategic. We can all cite examples where the technology was provided without training, so the new computers/laptops/tablets sat in the school unused. I suspect giving everyone a VR headset would fall into this same category unless it was carefully planned and implemented to support curriculum.

I would, however, love to be the first person who gets to stand on the surface of Mars!

Allan Tsuda's curator insight, August 26, 8:17 PM

It's happening faster than a lot of people realize. Interested in seeing "results" in student learning growth between the "have and have not" countries. Hopefully the gap will close.

Familiarity may indeed, as the saying goes, breed contempt, but it also breeds a sort of somnolence.
Sieg Holle's insight:

For the past 5,000 to 10,000 years, however, ultimately for nearly all of the world’s people, the state has existed as an ever-present predator and all-around abuser of human rights, its power to dominate and plunder propped up by its adroit exploitation of people’s fears, many of which have been of the state itself, others of external threats to life and limb from which the state purported to protect its subjects. In any event, nearly everyone eventually became incapable of even imagining social life without a state.
