Rochester disaster drill takes on zombie apocalypse

Rochester disaster drill takes on zombie apocalypse | Gov & Law skinny | Scoop.it
Disaster training allows emergency response crews to sharpen their skills in the event of a tragic event.
Meredith Boyce's insight:

Umm, This is seriously radiculous! Are they for real about that zombie thing!  Should we really be spending our money this way?

Thats interesting. I think if it teaches students to be prepared for a more realistic emergency event then why not. They are learning and having fun. The mayo student suggested if this teaches them how to handle disaster and stressful events, then why not.
Taylor Franklin's comment, May 19, 2013 2:56 PM
SERIOUSLY???? this is where our tax dollars are going. I feel like rochester has some problems with where they spend their money. for example, the walking bridge over highway 14 that leads into a field. Sometimes, I wish i could be in the city politics just to shove some sense at people.

US Senate rejects gun background checks

US Senate rejects gun background checks | Gov & Law skinny | Scoop.it
President Obama's campaign to curb gun violence dealt sharp blow after plan to expand checks for gun buyers was denied.
Meredith Boyce's insight:

Once again another reject on background checks. I think that it is interesting that people in connecticut aren't voting yes for this, since they are so close to the recent school shooting. I disagree with the poster/sign in the photo. Guns don't kill kids, people kill kids.

Mariah Kieffer's comment, April 19, 2013 11:38 AM
I think background checks being more strict is one of the better ways to approach this issue, we obviously cant ban them, then make the process of getting a gun harder! Guns dont kill kids! Its the people controlling the gun that kills kids.
Camille Fawcett's comment, April 21, 2013 10:54 AM
That is rather strange. You would think that they would have wanted more background checks to restrict it more. I wonder what their reasoning was behind this. I don't think background checks would hurt anything, they might even help.

Texas House of Representatives Passes Biennial Budget

Texas House of Representatives Passes Biennial Budget | Gov & Law skinny | Scoop.it
Austin, Texas - The Texas House of Representatives passed the biennial state budget on Thursday and continued to maintain fiscal discipline in state appropriations.

Taylor Franklin's comment, April 13, 2013 9:38 PM
I think more things like this need to be happening today. I honestly believe that these unspeakable crimes and acts of violence are due to untreated mental illness. I think that more mental illness help will be the solution to all these horrible tragedies like sandy hook. I always wonder how those situations may have turned out if that person just had a professional to talk to and got treatment.
Mariah Kieffer's comment, April 14, 2013 3:22 PM
I think this is a great idea. More help can hopefully lead to less random acts of violences. I am glad that at least one state has seen the correlation between all these violence acts and wrong-doings.

The slow boom of campaign technology

The slow boom of campaign technology | Gov & Law skinny | Scoop.it
Why transformational change in political media may take longer than expected.
Meredith Boyce's insight:

Campaining is getting more tech savvy. They say that if you spend 10% of you campaign budget on media adds you are being proactive. I think that this is a great idea. EVERYONE, minus a very small amount, are using technology everyday and they will be able to see your ad. So the more you put adds up, the more voters you could potentionally gain. If I was campaigning I totally would use technology!

Camille Fawcett's comment, April 7, 2013 1:46 AM
This is a very wise campaign tactic to use the branch of technology. It also concerns me though. Through the use of media, the right candidates might not be the one elected, but the one that had the most money, and was able to campaign the most. That kind of angers me about the situation. I don't like how it's always either a Republican or Democrat that wins the election. It'd be interesting to have a Third Party candidate as President, I believe. And proactive perhaps.

I think it would be very interesting to see how Texans will respond when the Democrats try to win them over. I do not see anything change anytime soon, but I think it'd also be interesting to see how the Democrats will try to approach Texans, being such a conservative and Republican state. I wonder how Texans will feel about this as well. Maybe a little angry? I guess we will just find out!

Turkey is looking at changing up their constitution. They want to make some changes to the definition of citizenship and changes to the judiciary part of their constitution. All of these changes are strongly liberal and the liberals face tough competition with the nationalists and centralists. They want to improve their constitution but it might take some till they all agree on how to improve it.

I understand the concern though, and how their marriage wasn't referred to as legal though. I'm curious as to what their final decision regarding the topic will be!

Taylor Franklin's curator insight, April 3, 2013 9:08 PM

These are hysterical. I died when obama said he was "channeling his opponent." These do show the differences in each side from social and economic standpoints. Though the election is over, I saw how Romney wanted to raise taxes on people, which apparently are the same things as corporations. He also felt there was a safety net for the very poor, and he wasn't concerned about them. Obama wanted to outsource more products.
