The move fulfilled a promise made in the State of the Union address.
Katelynn Krook's insight:

President Obama wants to raise Minimum wage to $10.10 an hour, which would help families that have to live pay check to pay check. Except Rebuplicans are against this movement because it would hurt the economy. Do you think its a good idea to raise minimum wage?

I do hath ink it is a good idea to raise it. There are many benefits, such a sight he prices going up you will be able to keep up somewhat yourself.
Yesenia Gibson's comment, March 14, 2014 12:31 PM
I agree with Darby, I think it will have more benefits than downfalls and it will be good for certain citizens who are struggling with low income, and businesses can still manage there prices.

This article  talks about how Arizona business owners have the right to not give service to those who are gay/ lesbians. Do you think that is okay? Or is that discriminating against the freedom of speech?

Katelynn Krook's insight:

This woman literally did nothing wrong to be forced out of her car and thrown on a cop car, just because she didn't give the officer her cell phone. When he has no right to take her phone. do you think she should have Beven arrested for recording the conversation ?

I don't think she should be a arrested for recoding the conversation. She had all rights to. The police officer must of said something he shouldn't of, casing him to panic.

Give the states the right to experiment with pot
New York Post
You might call this policy federalism — but not if you're Barack Obama.

Via Yesenia Gibson
Katelynn Krook's insight:

Personally I think pot should be legalized for medical reasons, to help those who really need it, but if you're gonna abuse then I don't think it should just be publicly available. Do you think  marijunana should be legal in Washington and other states as well!?

Darby Dodds's comment, February 14, 2014 1:53 PM
I do think it should be legalized for medical use and that's all. Some people abuse it, which isn't right. I also believe that each state should be able to decide what is legal and not in their state.
MsHaeussinger's comment, February 20, 2014 5:32 PM
Aren't the states already doing this by Oregon and Colorado being allowed to do so without government intervention?

CVS Vows to Quit Selling Tobacco Products

CVS Vows to Quit Selling Tobacco Products | Gov & law - Katelynn | Scoop.it
The drugstore chain sees itself as a health care provider and says the sale of cigarettes doesn’t fit that image, even though the company stands to lose $2 billion in sales.
Katelynn Krook's insight:

Cvs is a drugstore, that provides people's prescriptions and other health needs. personally I think them not selling tobacco products is a great idea. First of all you shouldn't be doing them anyways, but the fact that a drugstore is not selling it is so much healthier, and they actually care about people's health and needs. Considering they're going to lose about $2 million dollars is crazy. It's they're not just in it for the money. Do you think that is a smart move for them?

MsHaeussinger's comment, February 9, 2014 12:08 PM
It's like how Walgreens says "Be Well" but also sells tobacco products, a little contradictory!
Yesenia Gibson's comment, February 9, 2014 9:48 PM
I think this would be a great idea if CVS decides to not sell these products because it's almost like telling people here get well, but than dragging them into something that could be bad to there health. Everyone has there own rights to choose to buy what they want but this could be helpful, there's plenty of other more appropriate places you can buy cigarettes.

Analysis: Putin tests Obama's foreign policy - Boston.com | Gov & law - Katelynn | Scoop.it
WASHINGTON (AP) — For President Barack Obama, Russia's aggressive annexation of Crimea is testing central tenets of his foreign policy philosophy: his belief in the power of direct diplomacy, his preference for using economic sanctions as punishment and his inclination to proceed cautiously in order to avoid creating larger long-term problems. An AP News Analysis
Katelynn Krook's insight:

This is a very serious problem that is happening right now  between the U.S and Russia, and other states. Putin made a comment saying, "if you  push a spring too hard, at some point it will spring back."  What do you think he means by that?

Darby Dodds's comment, March 23, 2014 2:34 PM
I think it means that if you will face the consequences if you don't do something the fair and equal way. If we don't work out this situation with Russia, their might not be a good outcome.

This article is about how Obama went on Zach G. show which is promoted on the Funny or Die website, to talk about Health Care. His hopes were too target the youth in getting them to sign up. He showed a comedic side to him while also getting great points out there. Do you think this is a good way to grab young adults attention on getting them to sign up?

Darby Dodds's comment, March 14, 2014 9:33 AM
I think this is a great way to grab young adults attention because it is something interesting to watch that keeps young adults attention. Also because Zach is in it and who doesn't love him!?

I don't think they should of been arrested. When asked to leave the sidewalk I front of the hospital they did and went across the street. They didn't do anything wrong. They had a right to be at the hospital, they were also just doing their job. What are your thoughts on this?

Alex Salazar's curator insight, February 28, 2014 3:19 PM

This is an interesting article that brings up the question of how much the press can do to get a story

Luke French's comment, March 1, 2014 10:56 PM
I feel that this particular instance hinges on who's story was the true story. If the reporters actually tried to sneak into the hospital, I feel that proper action was taken. On the other hand, if they were just standing on the sidewalk, the police overstepped their bounds.

The microblogging company said revenue for the quarter was $243 million, up from $112 million a year ago, and it reported a net loss of $511 million.
Katelynn Krook's insight:

In the past year twitter has lost users due to the lack of knowing how to use it. Twitter has almost 250 million users and has decreased in a two month period. In this next year the corporation is going to try and make it a more stable and easier website. Much more like Facebook or snapchat. Personally I think twitter is fine by itself. They have changed Facebook so many times, that I don't even want to use it anymore. I think twitter is pretty complex but simple. The more you do to it the more users will get confused and not even want to try it. Is it a good idea to change twitter and make it more usable for anyone to use?

As Minimum Wages Rise, Businesses Grapple With Consequences | Gov & law - Katelynn | Scoop.it
Some owners who already made trims in the last economic downturn face difficult decisions to comply with the law.
Katelynn Krook's insight:

President Obama wants to raise minimum wage up to about $10 an hour. Which seems like a great deal for people still in school or any employee receiving Minimum wage. But If you think about small business owners, they're not really in luck. This article talks about a woman who owns her own daycare. The raise of minimum wage really effects her business. How is she suppose to afford to pay her employees? She already has to pay the bills provide for all the children , and keep the place going. Giving employees at least 3  more dollars an hour effects more than you think. Do you think it's a good idea to raise minimum wage?
