Florida's Amendment 8 would allow tax dollars to fund religious organizations (VIDEO)

Florida's Amendment 8 would allow tax dollars to fund religious organizations (VIDEO) | Gov and Law-- Brenna Voeltz | Scoop.it
Via WTSP: St. Petersburg, Florida - Amendment 8 is arguably the most controversial amendment on the ballot this November. It has several Bay area public school teachers feeling threatened. Amendment 8 is titled "religious freedom." It would remove the ban on using tax dollars to fund religious entities, organizations, churches or parochial schools, saying taxpayer money can fund religious entities. "That really changes the complexion of funding. It's very controversial, because of this notion of separation of church and state. That's why the ban is there in the Constitution. This would remove it," says Seth McKee, a professor at USF. Public teachers would think this is undermining the public education system. That this is a way to weaken it, because you might have some schools that are having difficulty and this is an opportunity for some voters, some families to say, 'I'm taking my kid out,' and now there are taxpayer dollars that can fund a voucher for them to say, go to a Catholic school..." I thought this picture was super funny. There has been so much speculation on gun rights in the past years because of all the school shootings. People don't realize that PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE.
Margaret Silhasek's comment, March 2, 2014 1:58 AM
i think this is really funny and totally true! As citizens, we don't have to register for all of our other rights, so why should we have to register to use a gun and stuff? Its so not equal!
Kenna Johnson's comment, March 2, 2014 2:54 PM

Constitutional Amendments

Constitutional Amendments | Gov and Law-- Brenna Voeltz | Scoop.it

The Constitutional Amendments are what people know as the Bill of Rights. The four amendments that I chosen to do are the 1st amendment, 4th amendment, 5th amendment, and the 8th amendment. The 1st amendment protects the freedom of religion, speech, and the press, as well as the right to assemble and petition the government. The 4th amendment prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures and sets out requirements for search warrants based on probable cause. The 5th amendment sets out rules for idictment by grand jury and eminent domain, protects the right to due process, and prohibits self-incrimination and double jeopardy. The 8th amendment prohibits excessive fines and excessive bail, as well as cruel and unusual punishment.

New Statesman - Why federalism won’t save the Union | Gov and Law-- Brenna Voeltz | Scoop.it
“ The reality is that most Scots support greater fiscal autonomy and, so far, attempts to draw a line in the sand at the status quo - or, worse still, the Scotland Bill - have only played into the hands of the SNP. It makes sense, then, for unionists to seize the initiative by embracing federalism - or some variant of it - and handing Scots responsibility over the bulk of their financial and economic affairs. This would undermine the drive toward separation by sating the Scottish appetite for more self-government.” “ But would it?”

Adrianna Tew's curator insight, March 5, 2015 6:29 PM

I feel like he should of been allowed to stay. Society as a whole has always had problems with people of the " Gay " community. There is no reason why a gay man was not allowed to stay by his partner's side at a time his partner probably needed him the most. There have been plenty of times where i have been to a hospital for whatever reason and i have seen couples of opposite sexes but, they were not being arrested or bothered because they wanted to stay with their partner in the hospital. The discrimination against the " Gay " community needs to be stopped. I Feel like society has shaped everyone to believing that there is something totally wrong with it and I personally will not ever feel that way. It may not be right in God's eyes but who are we to judge ?
