In light of the coming sequester, this is an excellent story! Obama released the detainees for various reasons - political and budgetary. Should be interesting to see if there are consequences from this massive release.
Samantha Iversen's comment, March 2, 2013 10:31 PM
This is something that never really occurred to me. I knew that the United States has a problem with illegal immigration, I just never thought about what happened to them when they are caught. I do not feel like simply releasing them is the right answer, but in the interest of time, Obama had to make a decision.
Gavin Baker's comment, March 7, 2013 12:43 PM
I think he made a smart choice in releasing them, with all the budget cuts on the way I don't think he had much of a choice.

About time...you'd think they would have been in the low 30's or negatives nationally by now after the mess he's been making.

Tanner Mathews's curator insight, March 13, 2013 9:56 PM

It is basicly saying that during obamas first few months his approval rating is going down by aproximetly 2/3. obama is trying to do the right thing but he is jumping into thigs too fast.

House Republicans Cheer Boehner’s Refusal to Negotiate on Cuts

House Republicans Cheer Boehner’s Refusal to Negotiate on Cuts | Gov and Law Block 4 | Scoop.it
Speaker John A. Boehner seems to have decided that he may have more to lose by negotiating with the White House over spending cuts that begin Friday than by letting them happen.
Brandon Cole's insight:

John Boehner has been going back and forth to the White House talking to the president about the fiscal policy issue. He has now decided that the best negotiation is no negotiation. Mr Boehner saying that the issue is "closed". It seems as if Obama is trying to guilt the republicans into making a deal.

This article is about the supreme court adding another politcal party. It would challange the republican party. I think the US should just keep the 2 party system.

I agree with just keeping the 2 parties. Everything is fine with the two parties, I feel like if we brought another party in this. Everything would be a lot harder and more difficult.

Going against the 8th amendment.

This article talks about a man who is in jail and while he was working he got out of hand. He caused some damage and as a result for his bad behavior he was handcuffed to a metal pole without his shirt and left there for hours without a bathroom break. Many would agree this is cruel and unusual and not right for todays society.

Brandon Cole's insight:

This article is about how some guards violate the 8th amendment. They handcuffed a prisoner to a pole in the sun with his shirt off. He wasn't given any chances to go to the bathroom and they only gave him 2 drinks. The supreme court is denying the allogations and will not put the guards on trial. This just goes to show how crooked the government can be behind closed doors.

The congressman that voted on automatic spending cuts won't be afftected. Their annual salary won't change if it passes. The 27th Amendment prohibits members of Congress from changing their compensation until after the next election. At a time when Republicans are divided on many social issues, the budget wars are one of the few things that unite them.
Brandon Cole's insight:

This article talks about Obama wanting to decrease the budget deficit. He plans on making changes with immigration, gun control, universal preschool, higher minimum wage and voting reform. Republicans won't allow him to do this. A new bill would give the Pentagon a whole new budget.

Brandon Cole's insight:

When new teachers go to a school with gangs or bad students there are other things to worry about besides them not liking you. If a student is failing and they see you outside of school, who knows they could actually shoot you. This fear is real not just something that happens in books or movies.

Brandon Janvrin's comment, February 7, 2013 12:40 PM
I would not want to go to school knowing that my teacher has a gun. That would make me not want to joke around with the teacher.
