Should I Post This? Your Guide to Social Media [Infographic] | Communication design | Scoop.it

Social media is often used for personal expression; to show special interests, proud moments, something informative, and personal statements. Social media accounts can be an extension of who were are. We live in a time where we can reach more people than in person. It can be tempting to tell everyone everything...

Some valuable e-safety thoughts :)

Owen Kim's curator insight, March 7, 4:48 AM

Social media is something that almost everyone uses and can give significant impact to people. Some people cannot differentiate what is and what is not appropriate to upload or publish hence it is good that everyone knows what and when to upload. Some people now days leave negative comments because of inappropriate posts which may lead to conflicts between people or hurting one's emotion. I feel that people should be sensitive when uploading a post so that negative impacts of social media will not worsen.

Sze Min's curator insight, March 8, 6:20 AM

Almost everyone has social media accounts nowadays. But it stills narrow down to whether you are using it appropriately or not. Especially when the social medias are linked together, you would have to be careful on how you use it, as once the photos or status are online, everybody in the world would be able to see it.

Flight Videos Deconstructed: The Patterns Wings Trace in Flight

Flight Videos Deconstructed: The Patterns Wings Trace in Flight | Communication design | Scoop.it

Although many animals take flight, they don’t do it in exactly the same way. That’s what Eleanor Lutz’ exceptional animated infographic shows us. She’s taken the flight patterns of 5 different species – egyptian fruit bat, dragonfly, Canada goose, hawk moth and hummingbird – and used Youtube videos to give us a look at how their wings move.

“I found slow-motion videos of five flying species, and mapped out specific points on the wings during one wingbeat. I ended up with 15 frames per wingbeat, and I connected every frame using imaginary curves that went through all of the 15 mapped points.”

Lutz is the first to point out that this isn’t a scientific exercise that draws firm conclusions – it’s more a beautifully artistic pursuit. You’ll definitely want to take a closer look on her blog, and at the other fascinating scientific animations.

This infographic is from the 2014 Environmental Performance Index. The Environmental Performance Index (EPI) ranks how well countries perform on high-priority environmental issues in two broad policy areas: protection of human health from environmental harm and protection of ecosystems. Within these two policy objectives the EPI scores country performance in nine issue areas comprised of 20 indicators. Indicators in the EPI measure how close countries are to meeting internationally established targets or, in the absence of agreed-upon targets, how they compare to the range of observed countries.

Solar Power Is A Huge Water Saver (World Water Day Infographic)

Solar Power Is A Huge Water Saver (World Water Day Infographic) | Communication design | Scoop.it

Every year since 1993, the community of nations has focused on the importance of fresh water and advocated for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. Severe droughts experienced recently in places like the American West, the Horn of Africa, Russia, China, and Australia have highlighted the fact that humans are rapidly using up the world's water supplies—and when they’re gone, they’re gone. We are spending one of our most vital resources in greater volumes every day.

One Block Off The Grid recently developed an infographic to illustrate how energy production depends on water. It shows water use by four of the most common energy sources: coal, nuclear, oil and gas, and solar. Solar comes out on top big time.

Steps to Creating the Conditions for Deep, Rigorous, Applied Learning | Infographic | Communication design | Scoop.it

Many school administrators, teachers and parents want the education provided to children to be high quality, rigorous and connected to the world outside the classroom. Teachers are trying to provide these elements in various ways, but a group of schools calling themselves the “Deeper Learning Network” have codified some of what they believe are essential qualities of deep learning (check out how students lead parent teacher conferences in this model).

Some of these qualities include learning designated content, critical thinking, communication skills, collaborating effectively and connecting learning to real-world experiences.
