NC bill would eliminate class-size limits | Education | NewsObserver.com | AUSTERITY & OPPRESSION SUPPORTERS VS THE PROGRESSION Of The REST OF US | Scoop.it
A bill filed in the state Senate would eliminate the ban on public schools’ having more than 24 students in any kindergarten through third-grade classroom.
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

This couldn't be a good thing! The Heavy GOP states seem to be all working to roll back gains in the public schools and make no mistake about it after the Mom and Pop and church charter privately own, but publically funded charter schools will come the main plan. The Wall-marting (not that Wal-Mart will own them but don't be surprised if GE finance does)and the Macy’s ritzy type for profit charters.

Those that can afford it will get the Macy corporation school and their won't be seasonal sales...other will get the cheap Wal-Mart style and as public school is undermined and the equality that was fought for is marginalized where else will you send the kids. The Wal-Mart schools will be training centers for poor jobs and the ritzy schools will be feeders for the wealthy to hold power and educational advances.

Read the writing on the wall…Isn’t nearly every store, business and restaurant, cell service Media provider, auto parts supply, Office supply, building supply and drug store in your town the same one that is in all the other towns in the whole country where they were allowed to set up shop?  They were allowed in nearly every town and in large city you find cookie cutter business repeated in each area. Why would the future, and annual multi-billion dollars of profit, private educational industries differ down the road? Is that really what we want for everyone preschool through high school? Why would private industry invest in education if they can’t harvest wealth from it? For-profit industries don’t do good things like care unless we make them.

Keep your eye on ALEC and other groups like them they are pushing our public schools and everything we've built as a support system out of our lives by buying up state officails to get thier way across the nation.

Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

Well, I just thought this was very interesting. You can make of it what you will as well. I am not informed enough on this to shape an opinion as yet. Sounds like interesting points from both sides of the statements to the UN.

I don't support the total mob rule of always going to a popular vote on issues with what is often flawed information from which to make decisions that even under the most informed situations might be difficult. I don't support the spying on all citizens in any form without proven just cause with the excuse of  "protecting" them/us from "threats".

I do support the idea that many of our ills can be cured by alert, attentive citizens who actively pay attention to local and broader events/issues as they occur. I support the idea that all citizens of each township and upward through larger community connections (county, state, national, and global) need to have open access to the decision making process, know who is funding and supporting any idea and a rational idea of why, and a way to individually and collectively speak for or against given concerns.

Many issues could even be decided by direct vote in this post-modern technology strong age. The irony/paradox of situations like the UN presentions given here are clearly visible to objective witnesses while they may be hard to see by those in the conflict. I am not saying that objective witnesses have an inner understanding of all the details from the point of view of those parties directly involved, but some parts of an issue can be made more clear by the reflection of objective witnesses observing or listening.

About ALECALEC is a corporate bill mill. It is not just a lobby or a front group; it is much more powerful than that. Through ALEC, corporations hand state legislators their wishlists to benefit their bottom line. Corporations fund almost all of ALEC's operations. They pay for a seat on ALEC task forces where corporate lobbyists and special interest reps vote with elected officials to approve “model” bills. This Is What It's Like to Be a Muslim in Boston Right Now

This Is What It's Like to Be a Muslim in Boston Right Now | AUSTERITY & OPPRESSION SUPPORTERS VS THE PROGRESSION Of The REST OF US | Scoop.it
When Anum Hussain heard about the Boston Marathon bombing, she immediately panicked, worried that the culprits would be like her. The 22-year-old Muslim was in the offices of Hubspot, the Cambridge marketing-software company she works for.

Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

The person that mailed the president and others poison could have done serious damage as well. The media doesn't seem to be painting that as everyone in the south is a potential terrorist, even though many situations in the south came close over history in many peoples opinions. This is most likely a really bad time for peaceful Muslims in Boston and other areas around the country.

Courtney Burns's curator insight, November 20, 2013 3:33 PM

Being from around the area and listening and watching the tv during the boston bombings all I really thought about was how the city and families were effected by the tragic event. However I never really thought about how it impacted muslim people in the area. For people to put a blame on all muslim people is not right. We are not all the same, which means not all muslims are the same. Some muslims have lived their whole lives in the US and for people to catogorize them all as terrorists isn't right. All people should be treated them same way. It is sad to read the article and think that some muslims in Boston walk around in fear of being beat up or killed just because of their culture. The bombings effected an entire city and muslim people people should be able to mourn with the rest of the city. They grew up there just like we did. So what makes them so different from me and you? Not all muslims are killers like the two boys from the bombings. It is really sad to me that they have to live their lives in fear everyday in a place that they call home, just because of their culture. No one deserves to live like that. I can't even imagine how difficult it is for muslim people in Boston.

Ryan G Soares's curator insight, December 3, 2013 10:38 AM

Terrorism is a huge problem in our Country today. I'm not trying to racist saying this but I feel like they do it to themselves. Coming into our country and terrorizing our nation thats okay? Yes not every Muslim is a terrorist im not saying that but you never know if they are or not. Since 911 we cant trust anyone, and theres a reason for that. I understand that they should not have to feel any different then the average American but the past is what we all dwell on.

Lauren Sellers's curator insight, May 29, 2014 10:19 AM

Some are saying that racism doesnt exist anymore but it does. Muslims still live in fear that they are being judged everyday because some Americans generalize Muslims with terrorism

The scene of carnage captured the peculiarly dehumanizing nature of the global manufacturing system: Workers and their communities are reduced to anonymous bodies while profit continues to flow smoothly to Benetton, The Children’s Place and Joe Fresh.

Catastrophes like the building collapse or factory fires or the everyday, low-grade disasters of poverty and attacks on union leaders—all that suffering is welded to the profit structure, occasionally papered over with token “corporate social responsibility” and “ethical sourcing” programs

The Seductive Simplicity of a New Banking Bill

The Seductive Simplicity of a New Banking Bill | AUSTERITY & OPPRESSION SUPPORTERS VS THE PROGRESSION Of The REST OF US | Scoop.it
Senators Sherrod Brown, Democrat of Ohio, and David Vitter, Republican of Louisiana, not only want to toughen the overhaul of the financial system, but also simplify it.
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

Excerpt:

Before looking at what the bill would do, it’s interesting to note what it wouldn’t. The legislation doesn’t stipulate a maximum size for banks. And, strangely, it takes no big steps to force Wall Street operations out of the safety net that the Federal Reserve provides to banks in times of crisis.

This takes a while to read through but it is certainly worth the time. I took awhile to scoop it until I had time to carefully read through the article. I did not fact check things but the article puts forth some great thinking/research starting points for anyone interested in the impact the right wing religious extremist from earlier times and how they may be still be impacting views and attitudes today.

Very interesting well researched post. You would have to be widely read to argue rationally with anything in this article because there is alot of meat (researched support) to the opinion. Most will Enjoy the history lesson.  I remember my father passing down some of those same ideas as the article discusses and he was no where near the religious right, so the attittudes of this type were most likely very wide spread.

Aaron's Army | AUSTERITY & OPPRESSION SUPPORTERS VS THE PROGRESSION Of The REST OF US | Scoop.it

Aaron wasn't a lone wolf, he was part of an army, and I had the honor of serving with him for a decade. You have heard many things about his remarkable life, but I want to focus tonight on just one.

Aaron was part of an army of citizens that believes democracy only works when the citizenry are informed, when we know about our rights—and our obligations. An army that believes we must make justice and knowledge available to all—not just the well born or those that have grabbed the reigns of power—so that we may govern ourselves more wisely.

He was part of an army of citizens that rejects kings and generals and believes in rough consensus and running code.

RNC Uses Fear Tactics for Fund Raising--Read the Latest Letter

Dear Michael,

He's doing it again. As if playing politics with White House tours wasn't enough, the Obama Administration is now doing the same thing with airline travel.

The Federal Aviation Administration is now planning to furlough 47,000 workers throughout the rest of the fiscal year. According to Nicholas Calio, president of Airlines for America, this plan "is illegal, irresponsible and damaging. Most of all, it's totally unnecessary."

The absence of these workers could delay flights in major airports 3 1/2 hours, and will create massive problems for travelers and shippers this summer.

There are a number of ways the FAA can reduce costs and meet government cutbacks without creating problems for travelers, but once again this Administration, it's all politics, all the time.

Obama is looking for ways to point the finger at Republicans over the sequester, and pressuring the FAA into cuts that have the greatest impact on the traveling public is the latest attempt to do so.

Contribute $25, $50, $100, or whatever you can today to send a strong message that we will not stand idly by and watch this President unnecessarily wreak havoc on air travelers.
