Major union cuts ties with United Negro College Fund over Koch connection

Major union cuts ties with United Negro College Fund over Koch connection | AUSTERITY & OPPRESSION SUPPORTERS VS THE PROGRESSION Of The REST OF US | Scoop.it

Sad to sayAFSCME is ending its collaboration on a scholarship program.

Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

Sad to say but the Telecoms and Cable companies and the Greedy Koch's all think the Black interest in the country and the media is for sale. Let's hope they aren't right and don't sale out to these corrupted corporate persons.

The Color of Change is warning that 10 black high ranking individuals are working to hand over the internet to the bogus Wheeler Plan…and the Koch's i guess plan to shut them up the way they always do with a wad of cash. They crush freedom of speech by being such big donors. The broadcast that tells the story and influence the Koch's have on policy was not allowed to air on PBS  as planned because PBS takes too much money from the Kochs.

If we  need to learn a lesson here it is to step up with our own funds to support what we want in our lives that might deliver truth or these people will see to it we never know and are under their thumb….Because as libertarians in they think that is where we ought to be and deserve to be.

The corporate person of KOCH  INDUSTRIES is a felon and still allowed to play a giant role in shaping policy and elections. Two teens murdered do to neglect of gas line maintenance Kochs were warned and made aware of.…..6 state environment disaster which they dumped the most major cost on citizens living in those areas and tax payers.Human with Felons in this country lose the right to vote…Corporate felons should lose the right to ever contribute to elections or policy. Funny thing that most of these corporate felons wouldn't hire a human felon to work for them but except to own this country. At what point do we stand strong and give these corrupt bullies a great big NO? They need to be taken to court and sent to jail!

Robert Reich: Walgreens shouldn’t have a say about how the U.S. government does anything

Robert Reich: Walgreens shouldn’t have a say about how the U.S. government does anything | AUSTERITY & OPPRESSION SUPPORTERS VS THE PROGRESSION Of The REST OF US | Scoop.it

..The former secretary of labor weighs in on corporate America's newest bid to reduce its tax bills

Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

Even if it becomes a Swiss corporation, Walgreen will remain your Main Street druggist. It just won’t pay nearly as much in U.S. taxes.

Which means the rest of us will have to make up the difference. Walgreen’s morph into a Swiss corporation will cost you and me and every other American taxpayer about $4 billion over five years, according to an analysis by Americans for Tax Fairness.

The tax dodge likewise means more money for Walgreen’s investors and top executives. Which is why its large investors – including Goldman Sachs — have been pushing for it.

Some Walgreen customers have complained. A few activists have rallied outside the firm’s Chicago headquarters.

But hey, this is the way the global capitalist game played. Anything to boost the bottom line.

Yet it doesn’t have to be the way American democracy is played.

Even if there’s no way to stop U.S. corporations from shedding their U.S. identities and becoming foreign corporations, there’s no reason they should retain the privileges of U.S. citizenship.

By treaty, the U.S. government can’t (and shouldn’t) discriminate against foreign corporations offering as good if not better deals than American companies offer. So if Walgreen as a Swiss company continues to fill Medicaid and Medicare payments as well as, say, CVS, it’s likely that Walgreen will continue to earn almost a quarter of its $72 billion annual revenues directly from the U.S. government.

But as a foreign corporation, Walgreen should no longer have any say over the size of those payments, what drugs they cover, or how they’re administered.

In fact, Walgreen should no longer have any say about how the U.S. government does anything.

In 2010 it lobbied for and got a special provision in the Dodd-Frank Act, limiting the fees banks are allowed to charge merchants for credit-card transactions — resulting in a huge saving for Walgreen. If it becomes a Swiss citizen, the days of special provisions should be over.

Time is running out to speak up about Internet ‘toll lanes’

Time is running out to speak up about Internet ‘toll lanes’ | AUSTERITY & OPPRESSION SUPPORTERS VS THE PROGRESSION Of The REST OF US | Scoop.it
Let me offer the following small-business parable:
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

IT HAS TO BE YOU! OTHERS CAN’T FIGHT THIS WITHOUT YOU! We need an army of citizens to make this happen. Jul 15th is your last official day to speak up. Do call or write even if you miss the date and see this later. Once the Internet is really changed it will be too late unless we build a new one. Call the White House and let them know what you think of losing the equal access internet with real Net Neutrality (not the one Wheeler is planning) and call Tom Wheeler at the FCC if he pushes this fast lane and other bad plans through. Why was he appointed FCC Chairman? He is an industry insider and lobbyist.

Call your representatives. It will take a massive number of calls to all these people…They all get large sums of campaign dollars and perks from all the telecoms, cable and ISPs that are set to gain billions and control of the public in ways any dictator in history could have only dreamed of.

The internet has given Mom and Pop shops, creative talents and personal expression and connections the biggest hand up in history and that may soon change to the biggest smack down soon if we sit on our hands and wait for others or something to stop it. IT HAS TO BE YOU!

Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

This needs to be more than a token to get the base out in elections. People don't need to spend their lives making rich people richer just to get an education. And we need a very well educated public so they will not buy in to the idea that they deserve crumbs from the floors of those they made rich through labor and customer payments for overpriced goods and services.

Jaron Lanier is one of our visionaries that understands today's technology world far more then the average, well inform person. He helped create the tech world of today. Now many (including him) see what a double edge sword their creations are or could be. Many of our political and business leaders are really not visionary. They only see what only is, often only one side of something and rarely look around any corners or to the future,

AMY GOODMAN: Democracy demands debate
The Spokesman Review
She is now leading her church in a major fight to curb climate change.
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

This is an interesting article that has been making the rounds on various online sites. I think there is merit to the idea of serious old fashion debate. We have made it politically and socially incorrect to discuss anything serious anywhere outside of official given halls and sermons or hear of it other than by a selected few outlets filtered by a predominately privately owned media and communication systems which decide which debates and individuals we are allowed to collectively hear. When we attend town halls for public discussion the space is often limited if everyone showed up and so is the time to discuss…which mainly means the selected few ask a question then shut up. The national debates have been cut down to two party ideas.

The Hobby Lobby case shows that these private companies have more rights to exercise their personal ideas through their industries than those that work for them or their customers have. We need more areas and spaces allowed for public debate. A Hobby Lobby employee when I ask about the Law suit that would directly affect her said she was informed by the company that employees couldn't discuss it.

Net neutrality, or that thing that keeps your Netflix cheap and running at an appropriate speed, is now open for public comment. Yes, in spite of the fact that
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

Open comment period to the FCC will soon close. Please study up on what this is about…Failure to speak up for your own interest will result in nothing less than a total sale out of democracy and our own voices being heard throughout our nation and the world. Don't except any of the funds to fall into your pockets from this sale out.  The idea is that when your ISPs totally own and control your connections they can bleed your wealth and those that want to connect with you and line theirs with your money and overpriced services. They will also save money by not having to improve service because they pretty much have already bought those guys out. When someone asks you about the FTC overseeing the internet as an antitrust issue…..just think of the monopolies they over saw the development of and answer a big no on that…think..McDonalds, AppleBees, Walmart, Clair's,, Pic and Pay…..and think about how every town you go to and every mall has exactly the same stores almost, and restaurants and so on. Think now only 6 companies already control nearly all our media and not many more our phone services and so forth. The FCC needs to get rid of  industry insiders and revolving door employees that come like a fox to take over a hen house then go to the industry they regulated  and shaped policy for to work at high paying positions. Please study some to understand what going on then send your comments and insights or even your shock and rage to the FCC and your representatives from this links to start with.
