Insanity: US Approves Bee Death Pesticide as EU Bans It | AUSTERITY & OPPRESSION SUPPORTERS VS THE PROGRESSION Of The REST OF US | Scoop.it

Corporate politics is business as usual inside the United States, as I am once again shocked to report the EPA has sided with industry lobbyists over public health in approving a highly dangerous pesticide that the European Union recently decided to ban over fears of environmental devastation.

Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

Excerpt:

Not only have neonicotinoid pesticides been linked repeatedly to mass bee deaths, also known as Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD), but the continued use of such pesticides threatens other aspects of nature (and humans) as well.

The Best Thing Obama’s Done This Month: Open Government Data | AUSTERITY & OPPRESSION SUPPORTERS VS THE PROGRESSION Of The REST OF US | Scoop.it
Long before steam engines and turbines carried us swiftly over the oceans, a disabled sailor who could no longer serve on a ship found something to do ashore: aggregate the data from shipping logs.
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

Many of these data are of fundamental interest to citizens, from the quality of the food we eat to the efficiency of our appliances to the safety of the cars we drive. During Hurricane Sandy, open government data feeds became critical infrastructure, feeding into crisis centers and media maps that amplify them to millions of citizens searching for accurate, actionable information.

Senators propose ‘blank slate’ approach to tax reform - Don't Tax My Credit Union! | AUSTERITY & OPPRESSION SUPPORTERS VS THE PROGRESSION Of The REST OF US | Scoop.it
Top tax writers in Congress are taking a “blank slate” approach to reworking the U.S.
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

One Question? Do we really want the most hated, do nothing but bottle neck, sold out congress in history rewriting our taxes? Fire most of them first by voting them out, then have a huge open public discussion of all the details, then a public vote. They can write what they want but they don't represent us anymore so don't let them decide this without us having the real vote.

I think everyone knows most officials work for their next lobby job boss while they are in the State and National houses. They throw down a few popular crumbs to those that they must count on to be elected by and save the best hand outs on our dimes for the the big donors and high paying jobs when they leave and for their family and friends even when they are still in office.

Regular readers of my work know the statistics: more than 46 million Americans living below the poverty line on less than $18,000 annually for a family of three. More than 1 in 3 of us — 106 million Americans — living on less than $36,000 a year, struggling to afford the basics like food, housing, healthcare and education.

Meanwhile, food stamps are under attack by both Republicans and Democrats despite the fact that 50 million Americans are struggling with hunger; cash assistance (TANF) reaches only 27 of every 100 families living in poverty; the minimum wage is a poverty wage, and there is a proliferation of low-wage work.

Amid Nationwide Protests, Turkish PM Tayyip Erdogan Faces His Moment of Truth | Nomadic Politics | AUSTERITY & OPPRESSION SUPPORTERS VS THE PROGRESSION Of The REST OF US | Scoop.it
Amid nationwide civil unrest, can the Turkish Prime Minister survive his own "Turkish Spring?" Here's a closer look at the causes for the wide-spread protests. Has the aggressive crackdown by the police made the situation worse?

Via Nomad
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

Here's a look at the recent Turkish events.

America seems to have the only folks that appear to be not in the streets over things that upset them.

We allow rich people to have multiple personhoods in the form of corporate ownership. Many states have made it against the Law for their public employees to protest through demonstrations. We've cut unemployment for those that need it most. We allow total open access to everything in our personal life through corporate collection and sharing, or government hacking (since the companies claim they didn't know) of all the data they collect. We then allow 10 years (with a deal to entrap others and never use your hacking skills elsewhere) to 35-year prison terms for private individual who hack or share corporate or government secrets and are not willing to be a turncoat, even when the secrets that these felons found and told are all that corporations and governments the globe over are secretly spying, collecting data on us and sharing it. Remember checking OK to that block on “We the people willingly and knowingly forfeit our 4th amendment and dare not use the 1st amendment because it could be used against us.”

Oh Yes! But this week we are ready to celebrate independence now that our police and national guard with their military training have pepper sprayed and hosed down and practiced plastic pellet shooting techniques to get all those nasty student and underemployed protesters out of our parks for wanting crooked Wall Street gamblers and banksters in jail and their education not to make them indentured servants of banks for life.

“…Anyone with an invention or good design can upload files to a service to have that product made, in small batches or large, or make it themselves with increasingly powerful digital desktop fabrication tools such as 3-D printers. Right now, the wealthiest 400 Americans own more wealth than the entire bottom-half of the country, and the six heirs to the great Wal-Mart fortune own more wealth than the bottom 30 percent of Americans.

The top 1 percent of Americans own 40 percent of the entire nation's wealth, while the bottom 60 percent owns less than 2 percent, and the bottom 40 percent of all Americans own just .3 percent of the nation's wealth.

Banks pushing for repeal of credit unions' federal tax exemption

Banks pushing for repeal of credit unions' federal tax exemption | AUSTERITY & OPPRESSION SUPPORTERS VS THE PROGRESSION Of The REST OF US | Scoop.it
WASHINGTON - Credit unions have been snatching customers from banks amid consumer frustration over rising fees and outrage over Wall Street's role in the financial crisis. Now banks are...
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

Banks want to level the playing field...OK then they also need ot become non-profit organizations represented by elected customer members!

Excerpt:

Under a 1934 law, Congress exempted credit unions from federal income taxes as long as they were nonprofit businesses, organized without capital stock and operated for the benefit of their members.

For decades, most credit unions were small operations, usually serving employees of individual businesses and government agencies.

The industry has grown significantly since the 2008 financial crisis, boosted by outrage over Bank of America's 2011 plan to impose a $5 monthly fee for debit card use.

Bank of America ditched the plan after protests from customers, lawmakers and the White House. But the controversy led consumer groups to launch an effort to get customers of big banks to switch to smaller institutions, such as credit unions. And the effort helped.

By the end of March, credit union membership surged to 95.7 million, an increase of 2.7 million from the start of 2012, according to SNL Financial. The growth in those five quarters was more than in the previous 11 quarters combined, the trade publication said.

Monopolistic Too-Big-to-Fail Banks Try to Crush Credit Unions as Competition by Removing Tax Exemption

Monopolistic Too-Big-to-Fail Banks Try to Crush Credit Unions as Competition by Removing Tax Exemption
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

I was seriously thinking of switching too even though 2008 has pasted and the threat of the $5 fee was fought off by people leaving big banks and others. I have been seriously unhappy with everything about most of the banks I deal with straight down to their excessive hold times on phones.

All these big companies have been leaving towns for 25 years proudly saying how we would all be moving to service jobs and they would be better than manufacturing jobs. Maybe it's time to let these banks join the service industry by nationalizing them after all they are nearly all named “National” names already to make us not notice they are vultures and vampire banktsters. Sucking everyone dry and picking off everything else like a credit union jointly held by membership.

Credit unions are non-profit. Kind of like our retirement funds are non-profit. They operate by sharing gains through cheaper services and with member representaion.  There is nothing to prevent banks from allowing all  customers to be member owners and doing the same profit sharing and membership voting.

Maybe that is what we need to do to fight this is “own” our own banks and make them non-profit or get these crooks thrown out and nationalize the "Federal" Reserve, and Bank of America, !st National Bank and so forth.  Or at least Rename them honest names like “Bank of Suckers”,  “Rich Guy’s Cheap Cash to Loan to Poor Suckers” would be a good, honest name for the “private bank” of the Federal Reserve. The Fed Reserve is basically a Low interest rate Payday Loan only rich banks can access.

They should be fined and sued for false advertising to the entire public for 50 or more years. Banks like to pretend they are “ours” and patriotic…. Maybe we should make that so!

Who came up with the dumb idea of putting all our money into someone else’s pockets and business plan when we have no input into how business is run?  People use to invest their money in their own businesses they controlled. Rich people in the community had owned Banks. But the rich community people always have their price and will sale out local interest. That is why some very important services and industries are best nationalized or maybe city or county owned is better for local oversight or employee or customer owned.

Think about the difference if you vote your neighbor to the bank board and they have to decide if it's in the county's best interest to invest local funds into the Walton's business and bring Walmart or Walgreens to town or into your neighbor’s drug store, clothing and hardware store expansions. I think we would have never been in this globally monopolized situation had we been doing that.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is now lending Predator drones to a wide range of federal, state, and local agencies for domestic surveillance and possible “non-lethal” strikes, according to federal documents released by the Electronic Frontier...
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

I had problems deciding what topic to put this under. Does the use of drones over America pose a lead into oppressing citizens when they know a drone can fly over and capture what they are doing at any time? The general idea is that if you aren't doing anything wrong you have nothing to fear. But what if what you need to do is right but those with drones wouldn't agree with it?

Is this a multimedia topic or technological topic involving the massive use of new technology for massive real time data collection of personal information and location and the issues that spin around all that? Is this potentially oppressive, beneficial or is there any way it may be both? And either in either situation what are the ethical questions we need to ask?
