This morning we <Love Wins Ministries> showed up at Moore Square at 9:00 a.m., just like we have done virtually every Saturday and Sunday for the last six years. We provide, without cost or obligation, hot coffee and a breakfast sandwich to anyone who wants one. We keep this promise to our community in cooperation with five different large suburban churches that help us with manpower and funding.
Today officers from Raleigh Police Department prevented us from doing our work, for the first time ever. An officer said, quite bluntly, that if we attempted to distribute food, we would be arrested.
Text I'll be sending in my emails to the elected officials in Raleigh. Feel free to copy.
"I'm curious to know if, as an elected official, you can explain the goal you have in denying a cup of coffee and a breakfast sandwich to your needy citizens, regardless of their condition or the causes behind it? Are the poor, the indigent, and the homeless not your brothers and sisters even if you don't consider them to be your constituents? What would you have them do, where would you like them to go, and, honestly, how can you sleep at night knowing that your decisions are keeping decent people like the Love Wins Ministries from peaceably doing nothing more than what they've been doing for years - feeding and caring for the less-fortunate among us?"
