Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

Excerpt:

"But the government's influence on people's lives has decreased significantly. More private actors run publicly funded schools and hospitals. The government still controls liquor stores, but has ended its monopoly on pharmacies.

"All the kinds of choices that I was not given when I was young, or my parents, are now there," Reinfeldt told a small group of reporters last week at the government headquarters in Stockholm. "You can now choose your kindergarten, your school, your health care, your elderly care."

The problem for Reinfeldt is a lot of Swedes don't seem to like all that choice.

Even though his government has won praise internationally for keeping Sweden's economy intact during Europe's financial turmoil, at home the perception has taken root that he's selling out the welfare system to greedy capitalists.

Negative headlines have dominated the Swedish media: privately run schools shutting down because of mismanagement by profit-hungry owners; elderly homes cutting back on adult diapers to minimize costs."

New Hampshire voters to pick Republican challenger for U.S. Senate race

New Hampshire voters to pick Republican challenger for U.S. Senate race | AUSTERITY & OPPRESSION SUPPORTERS VS THE PROGRESSION Of The REST OF US | Scoop.it
MANCHESTER N.H. (Reuters) - Former Massachusetts U.S. Senator Scott Brown aims to complete his rebranding as a native son of New Hampshire on Tuesday by winning the Republican nomination to run against
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

Money talks! Lessig's Mayday PAC invested just short of a couple of million to promote Rubens in New Hampshire where Rubens has lived for ages. Sixteen million were spent in that state on elections for this primary. Scott Brown moved to the state last year and was packaged up by the real big money and New Hampshire bought him. They think they did anyway...

This will likely turn out more like his backers bought New Hampshire for Brown to use. I guess New Hampshire will make a good doormat for him to walk over, but it is unlikely he plans to walk into their house to stay for long. Why didn't New Hampshire just stay home and ask for the millions spent on him to be just be divided up and sent to their mailbox with the bill of sale. Money won New York again too. Lawrence Lessig is on to something with his citizen sponsored PAC but it won't matter much if people keep voting to let those with the big money win as though those well moneyed backers actually know those voters names or gave two cents about them.

VideoThe ALS Ice Bucket Challenge raised considerably more than $100 million for research into degenerative neurological disease. That's great. But the whole phenomenon was also pretty great for Facebook, which saw a huge, extended surge of usage, particularly video consumption, around the summer-long campaign. Ice Bucket Challenge videos were viewed more [...]
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

Wow! This got 440 million views and 100 million dollars! Let's see what that research brings us 5 years from now!  Let's also think what would happen if that many people and that much money came into saving the internet WEB as we know it. The connection of ideas on this web may bring answers to ALS faster than those researchers. The power or our open connections to share a concern DID raise all that money.

If people would just put that much passion and money into buying back our own government just think of how many things we can act on to change together with out an act of congress. The deadline to comment to the FCC is Monday September 15th. The wealthy and commercial ads already have great gains and wins with the way the WEB is now. Please fight to make sure the Cable and Telecom industries don't destroy all this just to line their own pockets. Read this later if you don't know about what is happening this year to the WEB to change it.

http://www.savetheinternet.com/net-neutrality-what-you-need-know-now After you read the great news about ice bucket success go to this link to add get in touch with the FCC or contact them directly in by the end of Monday or even later. Call you representatives as well they won't take on the Media power houses if we don't force them to do it.  This link goes to the FCC from EFF. Use it if you want to send a quick letter by the deadline.

Two seemingly-unrelated situations involving free speech, come together in this post to expose America's first amendment hypocrisy.
Most of us know that free speech is not absolute. But why should some forms of free speech be restricted except when it comes from religious leaders? Why only Christian leaders? Why is hate speech allowed to hide behind the shield of religious liberty?
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

Here is something to think about. Many may have considered these conflicting ideas already, but if you haven't here is a look at how the meaning of words are regarded differently according to whom is saying them.

Why the Growth of Temp Worker Industry is a Serious Problem for Millions of Americans | Nomadic Politics | AUSTERITY & OPPRESSION SUPPORTERS VS THE PROGRESSION Of The REST OF US | Scoop.it
California legislators have finally taken steps to tackle a serious labor problem that has held low income workers back from finding long term employment.
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

We just received notice that the county substitute teachers would have to go through temp company to be hired. They will receive more benefits then they had before it sounded like but I'm not sure if the pay is better, the same or worse. This would not be a good job to direct someone that is just looking for work towards. Most the subs we have are teachers, want to be teachers or have been or they are parents. Temp agency's have many show up that would never go to a school to apply for a job and they might be directed to teach anyway if they have a degree. The timing of this blog was perfect for what is happening around here. I do know many of the factories here require people to start from a temp company and work a long time before they will consider hiring them into as an actual company employee with full benefits.

Battle For The Net

Battle For The Net | AUSTERITY & OPPRESSION SUPPORTERS VS THE PROGRESSION Of The REST OF US | Scoop.it

Hey there,

Exciting news! The Internet Slowdown net neutrality protest planned for September 10th is really taking off. This morning, a dozen of the world’s largest websites announced that they’re joining in a big way. Sites you know and love like Etsy, Kickstarter, Wordpress, Vimeo, Mozilla, Namecheap, Foursquare, imgur, and reddit.

Will you join too?

Everyone has a role in the Internet Slowdown. Click here to find out what YOU can do.

Oh, but that’s not all that happened this morning. Just a few hours ago I got a phone call from a number in Washington, DC. The person on the other end tried to ask some questions without identifying themselves, but when I asked outright they told me they were from NCTA -- yep, as in the National Cable Television Association, aka Comcast’s lobbying army.

I couldn’t hold back a chuckle when they told me who they were, but I continued to be polite. They wanted to know when we would be announcing the names of the companies participating in the September 10th net neutrality protest. I suggested they take a look at the front page of The Guardian, or at this op-ed by the CEO of Etsy in Wired, and mentioned they may want to check out this TIME Magazine article. Then I hung up.

After the call, I couldn’t stop smiling. I’ve been organizing for many years and one thing I’ve learned is that powerful enemies onlystart contacting you when they’re scared. If they don’t think you’re being effective, they ignore you.

Friends, we are giving some of the most powerful interests in the world a run for their money. And they have tons of money. We’ve got Comcast & company shaken up and scared. This is our chance to to drive the message home and win this once and for all.

All the tools you need for the battle are here:https://battleforthenet.com/sept10th

If you’ve got a website, blog, or Tumblr run the “slowdown” widget on your site to symbolically show your users a “loading” message and help people understand what the Web could be like without net neutrality. If you don’t have a site, change your profile pic to the “loading” symbol, so that the entire Internet is alive with protest on September 10th, and forward this email to everyone you know to spread the word.

The truth is, unlike Comcast and their cronies, we have nothing to hide. A report from the Sunlight Foundation yesterday showed that 99% of comments the FCC has received are in support of net neutrality. The public agrees, and hell hath no fury like the Internet scorned. As I write this email, I’m feeling more hopeful about our chances of victory in the battle for net neutrality than I have since we started this fight.

Last chance. We need you for the Internet Slowdown on September 10th. Are you in?

We can win this, and when we do, it’s a victory we can put in the history books.

For the Internet,

-Evan Greer at Fight for the Future

P.S. Our friends at Namecheap are really throwing down in the fight for net neutrality. Check out the awesome video they just put up at http://netneutrality.com, wait til you get to the part where people are riding on toilets chasing wall street bankers up a bike ramp.

P.P.S. There’s still time to get your very own #TeamInternet t-shirt or hoodie. Go here and reserve yours before they’re gone! http://teespring.com/stores/team-internet
