Black Crime Rates: Your Statistics Are Racist

Black Crime Rates: Your Statistics Are Racist | AUSTERITY & OPPRESSION SUPPORTERS VS THE PROGRESSION Of The REST OF US | Scoop.it
There is a common conservative narrative that indicates the disproportionate incarceration of black people is not the result of systemic racism, but rather of shortcomings within the black community.
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

I think there is a strong case for this articles points. I listened to a wing /religious radio program that pretty much said there are no excuses for black high crime rates... Never was the word discrimination  mentioned or poverty.... You would think black people are just raised wrong or it is in their genes and there is simply a need reforming blacks as a whole society.

Can the government treat some people differently than others on the basis of sheer favoritism? It seems like an obvious question, but decades' worth of unwarranted judicial deference in constitutional cases have made the answer uncertain.

2015’s States with the Best and Worst School Systems

2015’s States with the Best and Worst School Systems | AUSTERITY & OPPRESSION SUPPORTERS VS THE PROGRESSION Of The REST OF US | Scoop.it

Unless one is destined for the ranks of wildly successful college dropouts like Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg, education remains the traditional route to professional and financial success for many Americans. Consider themedian incomes for workers aged 25 and older in 2014. Those with a bachelor’s degree earned 65 percent more than those with only a high school diploma, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The data reveal that income potential grows — and chances of unemployment shrink — as one’s educational attainment improves.

And with school resuming session, many parents will be seeking the best school districts to secure their children’s academic success. When comparing their options, however, parents should recognize that the amount of available public funding is by no means a determinant of a school system’s quality, as our findings demonstrate, though money is certainly helpful.

Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

Exactly why is Mississippi trying to follow the lead of Louisiana and Florida? Why aren't school reformist in Mississippi  visiting  Massachusetts, Colorado or New Jersey?

We Asked Cornel West Why He's Voting Bernie Sanders — His Response Was Genius  | AUSTERITY & OPPRESSION SUPPORTERS VS THE PROGRESSION Of The REST OF US | Scoop.it
Why he's backing "Brother Bernie."
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

An interesting ticket would be Sanders, Lessig, Warren or John Stuart….The common factor all of these people have in common is that they lead by inspiring ordinary citizens to actively participate in shaping the policy that affects their own future and that of our global citizens as well. I find very little visionary or successful answers in placing the desperate people of the world behind walls or bob-wire or saddling them with lifetime debt in pretense of offering real help. It is time to regain a moral base in our treatment of humanity and our planet. I am not saying we should cuddle extremely obsessive "religious" groups like DASHE (Isis). The people of the world are a family and families might and a good moral family is there  to offer support to each other. It is time to let Ayn Rand's morality "The Virtues  of Selfishness" lay in her grave with her! I never realized how many of our leaders had become influenced with her flawed concept and quietly shaped policy by it for decades.

Google officially responds to EU anti-trust allegations

Michael Miles GIS's curator insight, August 27, 7:30 PM

Earlier this year, the European Commission, after months of investigation, formally addressed Google by accusing them of taking part in anti-trust practices. This left Google with no choice other than to respond and give evidence proving the falseness of this claim and showing that its business tactics aren't to edge out the competition. Settlement over this dispute is believed to occur later this year. In the future, this could impact relations between US and European companies, which could directly impact trade and our access to certain things. This could also tense up relations, as the European Commission also has a bone to pick with Android, which Google will also have to respond to later this year. And the more Google is falsely accused, it is likely that eventually they will retaliate which can lead to conflict. Personally, I feel that maybe the European Commission may be envious of Google and its profits. As it is the most used cite on the internet, its profits could be what the European Commission may need to help in other areas. The European Commission is accusing Google of something every company essentially wants to do: beat the competition. Not necessarily put them out of business, but to be the best and receive the most money. Rather than accusing Google of trying to squeeze out the competition, maybe the European Commission could advertise better to try and attract a larger audience that could cause them to eventually look into what the Commission does.
