2016 'It' Toy Already Sold Out, Leaving Parents In A Panic

2016 'It' Toy Already Sold Out, Leaving Parents In A Panic | GooglePlus News | Scoop.it

Toronto's Spin Master has done it again. The toy company that brought kids to a fervour over Zoomer robotic pets has created the hottest toy of 2016: Hatchimals. But they're already sold out everywhere, leaving parents in a panic.

WTF is a Hatchimal? Good question.

Imagine a large, speckled egg that hatches as a result of touch and sound. Inside, your child will find a bright, fuzzy robotic creature. It could be a Draggle, Penguala, Owlicorn, Burtle or Bearakeet (don't worry if you can't tell the difference, they look pretty similar.) That's when the fun starts. Kids then teach it to walk, talk and play using specific phrases.

"Hatchimals incorporate the very best elements of nurturing play with the interactivity of robotics in a truly innovative and entertaining way," Ben Varadi, Spin Master's chief creative officer, said in a press release. "This is one of the most unique products Spin Master has ever launched and we're confident that the consumer response will be strong."

Well, that's putting it mildly. The toy retails between $60 and $90 and it has sold out online everywhere. Sears, Toys R Us, Mastermind, Chapters... no one has it....

Inbox has a few key features: Bundles, Highlights, Reminders, Assists, and Snooze. With Bundles, Inbox will automatically bundle certain kinds of messages, like bank statements or purchase receipts, so that it will be easy to scan through them quickly. Google will create some Bundles automatically, but you can also tweak the rules for what emails you want to see grouped together.

Google Glass now plays movie trailers, closed-captions your conversations | Will Shanklin | GizMag.com

Google Glass now plays movie trailers, closed-captions your conversations | Will Shanklin | GizMag.com | GooglePlus News | Scoop.it

Google Glass hasn't exactly set the world on fire – or, for that matter, even left beta status. But that doesn't mean there aren't still some cool potential uses for the headset. Today Glass has two big new apps: one that can turn it into a life-changing tool for the hearing-impaired, and another that, erm, helps movie theaters sell tickets.

Captioning on Glass (CoG) is a real-time closed-captioning app for Google Glass. If you're deaf or hard of hearing, you'll see the words that a partner is speaking to you on your Glass display – almost instantly.

The only catch is that the speaker needs to be talking into a paired Android smartphone with a companion app installed. Google Glass has its own built-in microphone and voice recognition software, but it's much better at recognizing the wearer's voice than it is background voices. The CoG service uses the paired phone's microphone, held near the mouth of the person that's speaking, to deliver much more accurate transcription.

If the Captioning app transcribes something wrong, the speaker can easily correct it from within the phone app (either from a list of suggestions or entered manually). And if the Glass wearer is also visually-impaired, he or she can adjust the text size.

Like most other Glass functions, the process is triggered with an "OK Glass" command (in this case, followed by "... recognize this!").

Import Your LinkedIn Connections to Google+

Import Your LinkedIn Connections to Google+ | GooglePlus News | Scoop.it

In this short video I show you the only way to import your LinkedIn connections into Google+ in bulk. If you’re familiar with my previous post onimporting Facebook to Google+, the process here is similar.

Unlike other methods for importing your LinkedIn contacts which require you to add each contact individually, I use Circloscope which enables you to add all of your connections to a Google+ circle in seconds. It’s a massive time saver.

Check out the short video and/or read through the tutorial below. If you have any questions, just let me know in the comments!

The AMAZING history of comic books & their art

The AMAZING history of comic books & their art | GooglePlus News | Scoop.it

In a time when audiences were racing in droves to catch the latest talkie and hand-drawn animation was just finding its legs, a new medium brought kids (and adults, let’s be honest) back to reading. Comic books began as a dime-store novelty, and since then, they have gone through countless transformations, artistic explorations, public excises, declines and revivals.

The history of comic book styles is one as dynamic as the stories they contain, shaped not only by the hands of countless writers and artists but by millions of readers across nearly a century. While there might not be any mutants or doomsday weapons in the actual history of comics, its panels are every bit as unpredictable....
