New Community Curation Platform For Quality Minds To Share Quality Content: Newsana

New Community Curation Platform For Quality Minds To Share Quality Content: Newsana | Google+ Business Pages | Scoop.it

A Toronto-based media website Newsana is opening public beta testing today; it is a social platform for news junkies that curates the highest quality content possible, as voted on by its users.

From "FAQ" page:

"Newsana is an community of passionate people who are dedicated to finding and discussing quality news and ideas from around the world. Our members share and vote on their favourite stories which determines the Top 5 Essential Stories of the day from a variety of topics.

It’s not new to have a community based on finding and sharing news, but only Newsana creates a community for quality minds to share quality content.

This is done by:

- Filtering out the noise. We provide members with an easy guide to the Top 5 Essential Stories per topic, not a shotgun blast of information that’s impossible to keep up with.

- Elevating the conversation.

- Higher standards. We don’t have an open door policy; our members must apply and show they are passionate about making the Internet a better place.

By focusing our activity on finding Top 5 Essential Stories in any given topic, we’re bringing much-needed context, and smart conversation, to the often chaotic online news landscape.

In order to maintain that quality and make sure our community standards are upheld, we require that everyone who pitches a story is a Newsana member..."

4 Secrets To Maximize Google Plus For Business

4 Secrets To Maximize Google Plus For Business | Google+ Business Pages | Scoop.it

Excerpted and condensed...

A lot of naysayers complain that Google Plus doesn’t have what it takes to help businesses succeed. Those critics obviously haven’t taken a deeper look at what the site offers. When you know these following four secrets, you can maximize Google+ so that it works for your business.

Secret #1: You Need a Google+ Local Page

Secret #2: You Need Google+ Authorship

Google+ lets you set up an Authorship account that connects your blog posts with your Google+ profile. Actually, that’s a rather simplistic way of looking at it, especially considering that Google’s search engine now uses Authorship as a part of its ranking algorithm.

Secret #3: You Have to Get Involved

It’s fun to play on the Internet, but you have a business to run. That’s totally understandable. It’s important to notice that getting involved in Google+ is a part of running your business. Luckily, it doesn’t require as much time as Facebook and Twitter.

Secret #4: Use Google+ to Share Exclusive Promotions

Google+ doesn’t actually let you run promotions on its site. You can, however, use your circles to spread information about promotions. Include a link in your post that will take them to a site giving them the details or asking them to participate in some way.

What is Google AuthorRank?

What Signals Will Factor Into AuthorRank?

Google considers 200+ ranking factors when determining where our sites rank in organic search.

The average PageRank of an author’s content.

The average number of +1s and Google+ shares the author’s content receives.
The number of Google+ circles an author is in.
Reciprocal connections to other high AuthorRank authors.
The number and authority of sites an author’s content has been published to.
The engagement level of an author’s native Google+ content (i.e., posts to Google+).
The level of on-site engagement for an author’s content
Outside authority indicators (e.g., the presence of a Wikipedia page).
YouTube subscribers and/or engagement on authored videos (speculation: multiple-attribution author markup for YouTube videos coming soon).
Any number of importance/authority metrics on social networks that Google deems trustworthy
Real world authority indicators like published works on Google Books or Google Scholar.

What is the difference between asking for reviews and soliciting them? It seems that a number of SMBS have discovered that one leads to jail time.

Google has been throwing out reviews left and right of late. This is not a bug but the outcome of a newly aggressive review spam filter.
