Survey: 62% Of Consumers Say Social Media Doesn't At All Influence Their Purchasing Decisions

Survey: 62% Of Consumers Say Social Media Doesn't At All Influence Their Purchasing Decisions | Google Plus Business Pages | Scoop.it
It shouldn’t come as a surprise to savvy social media marketers, but consumers really aren’t interested in what you are selling. That is main social media finding in a report released by Gallup today, showing that people say they use social media to be … social … with friends and family and don’t believe that […]
Neil Ferree's insight:

Wither Social Media?

So where does that leave social media? How should businesses react to these results? Gallup’s prescription will sound familiar:

  1. Authentic. Social media sites are highly personal and conversational. And, as Gallup finds, consumers who use these sites do not want to hear sales pitches. They are more likely to listen and respond to companies that seem genuine and personable. They want to interact with a human, not a brand. Companies should back away from the hard sell and focus on creating more of an open dialogue with consumers.
  2. Responsive. The social media world is 24/7, and consumers expect timely responses — even on nights and weekends. Companies must be available to answer questions and reply to complaints and criticisms. Ignoring negative feedback can do even more damage to a brand’s reputation. Instead, companies need to actively listen to what their customers are saying and respond accordingly. If mistakes were made, they must own up to them and take responsibility.
  3. Compelling. Content is everywhere, and consumers have the ability to pick and choose what they like. Companies have to create compelling, interesting content that appeals to busy, picky social media users. This content should be original to the company and not related to sales or marketing. Consumers need a reason to visit and interact with a company’s social media site and to keep coming back to it.

Content marketing software: It's starting to take off | Google Plus Business Pages | Scoop.it
Venture dollars are pouring into companies like NewsCred, Percolate, and Contently as Oracle, Salesforce, and Adobe begin to slug it out.
Neil Ferree's insight:

Why is this category so suddenly interesting?

The only scalable way to handle these demands is through implementing a content marketing system.”

Forrester Research senior analyst Ryan Skinner said at the most basic level, content marketing tools replace spreadsheets as a means of tracking and coordinating simultaneous writing or content development projects.

But the promise is far grander: helping marketers stay more “culturally informed” about which messages might resonate with their target audiences.

“Every marketer is trying to become a quasi newshound,” Skinner said. “These tools help give them relevance.”

How to Manage your Social Media Presence

Whether you are seeking a new Job Opportunity on LinkedIn or you are a small business owner or a Social SEO Consultant wanting to showcase your service offerings, its as easy as ever for a prospective client to socially vet you in a matter of minutes.

Here's the routine you need to follow in order to better manage and control your social media presence so that your prospective clients will find your social link wheel appealing, compelling and more likely to engage you via one of your top social media channels.

Neil Ferree's insight:

When you search your full name on Google and Bing, make sure you search both ways:

  1. Signed into your Google account
  2. Incognito Mode (hide personalized)

Then compare these results with your DuckDuckGo results so any personalization doesn't influence your decision on which social profile is your most important.

12 Most Innovative Ways to Create Content That Gets Shared | Google Plus Business Pages | Scoop.it

Your most important online asset is your content. It attracts clients to you and encourages prospects to take action.

Follow these 12 Steps @Rebekah Radice outlines in this A+ article if you want to create killer content your target audience wants and expects you to deliver and especially if you want them to share it with their social connections which we all want to have happen!

Focus on Step #3 • in my opinion, this is the most important dynamic of the bunch. The more detailed you define your ideal customer as to

  • who they are?
  • where do they live?
  • what do they read?
  • why do they read it?
  • when do they read it"
  • how do they read it?
  • who do they read it from (you get the idea)

If you can visualize and appeal to as many of these aspects of your ideal customer, the easier it will be to connect with them at the right place and at the right time with the right information in the right format and improve your odds of making the connection you seek.

Win the Content Marketing Marathon

"The thirst you feel in your throat and lungs will be gone minutes after the race is over. The pain in your legs within days, but the glory of your finish will last forever." ~ Unknown

Content Marketing is a marathon. You start excited and energetic, writing away at lightning speed, dodging and weaving around slower, inferior competitors.

Then you hit mile 12.

And suddenly your legs feel like lead. Your thighs burn and your feet seem to be moving in wet sand.

You run out of ideas. You stare at an empty content calendar and scribble “infographic?” with no real optimism.

This insightful piece by +James Scherer will give you the five important steps you need to take to win the content marketing marathon.

1. Start Conditioning
2. Stretch Before You Run
3. Start With Small Steps
4. Pace Yourself
5. Push Through The Wall

And while I have never run a marathon, I have participated in grueling bike rides called centuries that are very similar. One in particular, the Tour Of the Scioto River Valley (TOSRV), begins in Columbus, OH on Saturday and follows a 105 mile course to Portsmouth on the banks of the Ohio River. On Sunday, you make your way back, achieving 210 miles bicycling in two days. Many fail to finish, or opt only to do one day.

But I didn't just decide to do TOSRV one day. I'd been riding consistently for months... years... and had specifically trained that year for this event by doing 100-mile rides on Sundays and 30-mile sprints on Wednesday evenings to build up strength and stamina. I had hit the Wall numerous times and learned how to push through it.

And that's exactly how it is with blogging.

When I first started blogging, I didn't begin by creating two blog posts a day. I was lucky to write one a month! But over time, I got better and better, and adopted many of the techniques and best practices that James outlines here.

So take a look at what it takes to win the Content Marketing Marathon and think about how you can adopt some of these ideas yourself. Which ones do you do already, and which ones do you think you can start working on now?

#ContentMarketing   #Blogging   #Business
