Ellen Naylor's curator insight, February 21, 7:13 AM

I resonate with the last 2: spend money on experiences and follow your dreams. When we got married I turned down the diamond ring that I probably would have lost years ago in favor of a 2 week honeymoon. We still talk about it some 30 years later.

It's taken me longer to follow my dreams, but I have started a new career in my late 50s as a health coach helping America get more healthy through developing and executing corporate wellness programs.

From the Article:  You do not need to “be seen” before pursuing your ideas. Enjoy yourself. Work. Create. Add value. Do what you can, consider everything an experiment to be held lightly, and then see what it leads to. Trust that in the doing, you are learning and growing, and being powerful. While it is quite possible you will be left “unseen” by some of society, at least you’ll see yourself. In this way, power stretches to become dignity.

9 Ways to Become an Optimist

9 Ways to Become an Optimist | Good News For A Change | Scoop.it

Some people are more optimistic by nature, but optimism is not a fixed attribute.  It’s a choice we have control over.  Every morning, we either choose to wake up grumpy or wake up with a positive outlook.  Research has shown that, in the long run, optimistic people handle stress better, get sick less often, live longer, and are happier and more successful than their pessimistic counterparts.

The good news is that we can all develop skills to improve optimism.  Here are nine ideas to get you started:

Gratitude, appreciation, encouragement, love, etc...these qualities bring authentic engagement to our lives.

"Do not miss a single chance - not one single opportunity - to tell someone how wonderful they are, how special they are, how important to you they are, how incredible as a person they are, how beautiful they are inside and out. Do not miss a single opening in which to insert such a comment, genuinely felt and genuinely meant."
