You Think You're Taking Great Notes With Your Laptop, But You're Not

You Think You're Taking Great Notes With Your Laptop, But You're Not | Going Digital | Scoop.it
Students do worse on quizzes when they use keyboards in class.

Knowing how and why typed notes can be bad doesn't seem to improve their quality. Even if you warn laptop-notetakers ahead of time, it doesn't make a difference. For some tasks, it seems, handwriting’s just better.

What is Critical Thinking? (Explained with Great Videos)

What is Critical Thinking? (Explained with Great Videos) | Going Digital | Scoop.it

In simple terms, it is the process of breaking down what you know and information you have, and then evaluating and critically analyzing it in order to make an informed decision without bias.

A critical thinker:

- Is open-minded and mindful of alternatives
- Desires to be, and is, well-informed
- Judges well the credibility of sources
- Identifies reasons, assumptions, and conclusions
- Asks appropriate clarifying questions
- Judges well the quality of an argument, including its reasons, assumptions, evidence, and their degree of support for the conclusion
- Can well develop and defend a reasonable position regarding a belief or an action, doing justice to challenges
- Formulates plausible hypotheses
- Plans and conducts experiments well
- Defines terms in a way appropriate for the context
- Draws conclusions when warranted – but with caution
- Integrates all of the above aspects of critical thinking

10 Social Media Skills for The 21st Century Teachers | Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Going Digital | Scoop.it

The potential of social networking sites in education is huge and we need to capitalize on it to enhance our professional development and consequently improve the quality of our instruction. Searching for articles on this topic , I came across Doug Johnson's post on the 10 social media competencies for teachers [http://doug-johnson.squarespace.com/blue-skunk-blog/2010/7/31/top-ten-social-media-competencies-for-teachers.html ]. I like the competencies Doug included and decided to make an infographic featuring all of these skills.  Have a look and share with your colleagues.
