Go Game Guru's insight:
This is a film about Yasui Santetsu, a Go player and famous Japanese astronomer, better known as Shibukawa Shunkai (played by Okada Junichi).
He was the creator of the Japanese Jokyo calendar, which was used for many decades, and the author of many books about astronomy.
He also played with his friend and rival, Honinbo Dosaku, in the castle games - who is a character in the story too. One famous game between Dosaku and Santetsu, where Santetsu opened on tengen, is depicted in the film.
From time to time people email us at Go Game Guru and say they'd be interested in seeing Younggil comment some classic Go games, from a modern perspective. So we decided it would be fun to ask you to recommend your favorite games for analysis.

Hidden within Go's tactics are complex life lessons. While the black and white stones may appear to indicate a clear divide between opponents, much of the strategy involves juggling unsettled, undecided ideas.
