Founded by Jim Oakley, an accomplished design engineer, in 1977, Mecmesin remains a privately owned company, based in Slinfold, West Sussex, UK, which has expanded worldwide, with regional offices in the USA, China, Thailand, Germany and France.

The focus of the company has always been to provide high quality test solutions, which are an affordable alternative to the many higher-priced systems available, enabling small and large businesses alike to undertake quality control checks on their products without compromising on precision and accuracy. The rugged design of these systems mean they can withstand tough factory conditions and perform tests at the point of production rather than having to use expensive laboratories to ensure consistent manufacture.

How Homework Works In Finland (Hint: There Isn't Any) - Edudemic | Glossaries, dictionaries, resources | Scoop.it
When we talk about how our education system is failing our students, there are a lot of different options presented on how to ‘fix’ it. Everyone has an answer, a promising new way of thinking, a potential magic bullet. Inevitably, we also examine school systems that are working as a part of investigating what to do …

Ivon Prefontaine's curator insight, July 27, 10:25 PM

I rarely assigned homework. It seemed counter-productive and counter-intuitive. The exception, if can be called homework, were projects which engaged students and their parents at home. This provided an untapped resource, excited students and parents, and was highly successful. I always provided more time for these projects so they did not work against learning.

Too much false information, including topic.
Debra Evans's curator insight, July 28, 5:54 PM

Good piece, but need to consider also; this country is not really catering to multi-cultural group.  But, we should learn from their examples - we in Australia definitely moving towards over-educating, with even prep losing its play-based approach.  Also worth noting - the teacher in the classroom has the biggest impact on whether or not the students will learn - effective teachers=effective learners.

(TOOL) 6 webs para descargar ebooks gratis

(TOOL) 6 webs para descargar ebooks gratis | Glossaries, dictionaries, resources | Scoop.it

(MULTI) e-Encyclopedia of Medical Physics and Multilingual Dictionary Terms

The objective of the pilot project European Medical Imaging Technology e-Encyclopaedia for Lifelong Learning (EMITEL) is to develop an original e-learning tool, which will be used for lifelong/continuing learning of a wide range of specialists in Medical Physics and Medical Imaging Technology. The tool will be linked to our existing EMERALD and EMIT materials (developed by the core of the present Consortium) and will additionally include Radiation Protection, Hospital Safety and Radiotherapy terms, thus forming a one-stop knowledge database for those who want to acquire a specific competence and for those who want to refresh their knowledge and to learn about the new developments in the profession. The tool will be linked to our multilingual Digital Dictionary, which will help its use in many EU and other countries. Currently the database of the e-Dictionary includes 25 languages.

Medical Physics is a very dynamic profession – the last 20 years have changed dramatically most of its areas, introducing new methods and equipment with speed, which requires constant update of one’s knowledge. EMITEL will be innovative e-Learning tool - a large searchable Web database, including multilingual Digital Dictionary of Terms with explanatory articles for each term. The total number of terms in English is expected to be approx. 3200. The Dictionary cross-translates to/from any two languages from its database. Each term will be covered by an explanatory article in English (or hyperlinked to an appropriate article). The length of the articles would depend on the term. Most articles will also include images, diagrams, and tables, as necessary. At a later stage this material is planned to be additionally printed as a paper book. The income from sales will be used for the future updates of the material. During May/June 2007 EMITEL was expanded to include 20 languages in the e-Dictionary and to develop a special Content Management System (CMS) to allow future update the content of the e-Encyclopaedia over Internet.

The Encyclopaedia will have a wide audience, primarily amongst medical physicists at all levels, from trainees to senior members of the profession, but it will also be used by members of related professions, such as clinical engineers, radiographers, doctors etc. Many users will not have English as their first language and will access the encyclopaedia through the multi-language dictionary of terms.

A Consortium has been established between the following institutions to run the project: King’s College London (Contractor and Coordinator) and King’s College Hospital (UK), University of Lund and Lund University Hospital (Sweden), University of Florence (Italy), AM Studio Ltd (Software company, Bulgaria) and the International Organization for Medical Physics (IOMP).

The core of this partnership has worked previously in two successful Leonardo training projects EMERALD and EMIT – their materials are now used in 65 countries (EMIT Consortium received the Leonardo da Vinci Award in Maastricht 2004). The EMITEL Consortium will continue its function after the end of the project to assure constant update of the e-Encyclopaedia tool. The project additionally attracted new contributors - senior professionals from all over the world. These formed an International Network EMITEL (currently 250+ specialists from 35 countries), which will continue to care for the EMITEL e-Encyclopaedia and Dictionary

The project was financially supported by the Partners above and the EU programme Leonardo da Vinci. Additionally, a number of distinguished colleagues generously agreed to support this important for our profession project by contributing to the translation of terms, development of articles, refereeing and dissemination of EMITEL.

(EN) Glossary of class names of organic compounds and reactive intermediates based on structure | International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry

(EN) Glossary of class names of organic compounds and reactive intermediates based on structure | International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry | Glossaries, dictionaries, resources | Scoop.it

"This is a glossary of terms used to denote classes of compounds, substituent groups and reactive intermediates, in contrast to individual compounds. The overwhelming majority of the terms refer to organic compounds, but a few classes that may be considered inorganic are included for convenience. The principal criterion for inclusion is that the class be definable by structure.

A class is a set of compounds sharing a common structural feature to which is attached a variable part (or parts) defining a specific compound of the class. The common feature is often a functional group to which one or a small number of variable parts are attached (e.g. aldehydes, ketones). The variable parts are in this glossary represented by hydrocarbyl groups (q.v.). The most simple representation of a class is thus defined. However membership of one class need not exclude membership of another class, and certain substitutions, as e.g. with heterocyclyl groups (q.v.) linked through a carbon atom in the R group, may be allowed. For instance, ethylamine as well as [1-(furan-2-yl)ethyl]amine and (2-methoxyethyl)amine belong to the class amines. The common feature may also be a sizeable part of the molecular structure, or a repetitive part of the molecular structure, possibly but not necessarily devoid of functionalities (e.g. steroids, terpenoids); quite often the attached variable groups may be many and of any functionality."

(EN) eFunda: Units and Constants | efunda.com | Glossaries, dictionaries, resources | Scoop.it

"The index page for units, fundamental constants, and currencies.

eFunda stands for engineering Fundamentals. Its mission is to create an online destination for the engineering community, where working professionals can quickly find concise and reliable information to meet the majority of their daily reference needs.

eFunda is all about the basics, for most part, that means college level material covered in engineering schools. If you practice engineering, more often than not you would find yourself searching for something you knew but could not quite remember. eFunda wants to be your reminder of these formulas. Not only that, eFunda wants to tell you exactly under what conditions those formulas apply, so you don't have to read an entire chapter of the good old textbook.

The engineering world is full of formulas. This is a dangerous thing. Most of us are so used to using a certain formula to solve a familiar problem that we forget that each formula has its limitations. Often neglected are the assumptions taken when the formula was derived in the first place. In engineering, mis-applying a formula sometimes is much worse than not knowing any formula at all. As experienced engineers, the staff of eFunda recognizes this danger and strives to provide the most precise technical information that anyone could find on the web.

Our obsessions are accuracy and simplicity. If we can't summarize a topic in a few pages with the information that you can readily apply to your project at hand, you may as well read a book. Our goal is to save our audience precious time. When we started eFunda in early 1999, such resource was not available. Today, eFunda-like sites are still hard to come across, especially when it comes to quality and coverage. We ask for your approval, and please do not hesitate to write to us for suggestions. Or, if you prefer, you can call us toll-free at 1-800-398-5968. We look forward to hearing from you!
