Activity in Chinese factories remained steady in April | glObserver Global Economics

Factory activity in the world\'s second major economy, China, held steady in April, coming in slightly above market expectations. The official manufacturing purchasing managers\' index (PMI) was at 50.1 in April, the same level as in March and above expectations of a reading of 50.

Increase in the Asian giant is expected to continue to relieve with policymakers setting a target of about 7% for this time- which would mark its weakest expansion in a quarter of a century.

China\'s manufacturing sector, which has been heralded as the factory of the world, has struggled to gain momentum with overcapacity in production as new orders shrink.

The government of the world’s major auto market announced it would move to lower the subsidies of new-energy vehicles in the country, even as deliveries have not met the official estimate.

The Chinese will curb the subsidies additional than before announced on new-energy vehicles, the country’s term for vehicles inclunding plug-in hybrids, battery and fuel cell electrics. According to a recent statement posted on the finance ministry’s website, the officials will curb the incentives on new-energy models by 40 % for the 2019 to 2020 period from the level mulled for 2016. The new figure is two times larger than the ministry envisioned back in December 2014.

Uzbekistan’s cabinet of ministers adopted the ‘Decree on measures for further development of the MAN heavy-load vehicles production’, under which the Uzbek-German joint venture, MAN Auto-Uzbekistan, will in 2016 launch an enterprise in the Samarkand region to produce cabins for heavy-load trucks.

The decree stipulates that the MAN Truck&Bus AG, a division of MAN group companies, and Uzavtoprom will realize a project to launch the production of cabins for the MAN heavy-load vehicles at the MAN Auto-Uzbekistan JV. JV MAN Auto-Uzbekistan is the customer.

China’s major privately run film production company, Huayi Brothers Media, says that it has reached a transaction to finance, co-produce, and release 18 feature films by 2017 with an unnamed US partner.

The Beijing-based company did not identify its US counterpart but people familiar with the situation said it was Burbank-based STX Entertainment. The venture is not the initial co-production transaction Huayi has done in Hollywood, but it is — according to the film group — the initial time a Chinese company will take part in all process of Hollywood filmmaking, from investment to production and distribution, and get a cut of total world revenues from films in addition to the Better China distribution rights.

Back in December some Kazakhstan-based banks suspended their mortgage programs denominated in the tenge, the country’s national currency. Experts assigned the problem to shortages of tenge. Later Kairat Kelimbetov, the Central Bank Governor, announced that banks would resume their lending operations in a little while.

As the government sharpens it focus on ICT, a digital drive is taking shape in Thailand, underpinned by plans that include incentives for investors and improved communications infrastructure.

Speaking at a seminar in January, Pridiyathorn Devakula, the deputy prime minister in charge of economic affairs, described the digital economy plan as a key element of the government’s policy schedule. The authorities will provide the tools needed to strengthen Thailand’s ICT backbone, while as well improving soft infrastructure, legislation and regulations governing the sector. “Our government is planning to work with the private sector to develop hard infrastructure, such as a national broadband network, spectrum to provide 4G wireless broadband, the establishment of a national government data centre and an increased number of international internet gateway facilities,” he told participants.
