A Summer of Evangelism

A Summer of Evangelism | Global Youth Ministry | Scoop.it
What is your summer going to be of?

Is it going to be a summer of video games? Or perhaps a summer of hanging with friends? I guess it could be a summer of video games, movies, hanging with friends, service projects, missions trips, camps, shopping, sleeping, snacking and/or reading.

NEW EXPECTATIONS OF YOUTH WORKERS – Part 1

Growing up, we all want to believe in heroes. They don’t have to be superheroes—just normal, imperfect men and women we can respect, look up to, imitate. People who have been around the block, who know a few things about what life takes…and gives. Who’ve absorbed their share of punches and still smile and make mostly admirable decisions. That’s what youth workers can and must be to young people.

Don’t Give up!

Don’t Give up! | Global Youth Ministry | Scoop.it
One of the most common questions I get asked from other youth leaders is how I handle a situation where it seems that they are just not getting through to a student. The answer is simple…..don’t give up. Easy to say, but hard to do. Here’s my suggestion for how to handle that situation:

What do you like to do when you go home from work? Sunday nights, Wednesday nights? What does a youth minister do when you go home from the LONG days of hanging out with students? Me? I go home and I watch my TV. I turn into a starch and plop down on my couch. I find myself loving TV shows. Normally, if I watch one or two shows of something, I am generally hooked. This is what I do with my spare time. I am a couch potato.

Helping Volunteer Leaders Make The Most of Their Time

Helping Volunteer Leaders Make The Most of Their Time | Global Youth Ministry | Scoop.it
I love my volunteer youth leaders! They give up their evening and weekends for some of the most craziest stuff in youth ministry. Recently, I was able to spend a weekend at The Simply Youth Ministry Conference with some of them. The conference was a great opportunity to get feedback and evaluate how they were growing. Ultimately, it was a wonderful opportunity for me to consider how I was helping them to grow into their leadership and effectiveness as youth leaders.

Social Justice Scavenger Hunt

Social Justice Scavenger Hunt | Global Youth Ministry | Scoop.it
Approached as an open-ended activity, this scavenger hunt can provide a way for your group to wrestle with what social justice means to your church and how you are called to respond to the challenging ideas in scripture about the poor, about war, about sharing what we have with others. At its best, this activity could create space for those of different political ideologies in your group to listen to one another (e.g. can advocacy relate both to those who favor reproductive choice and those who oppose abortion?) and to at least ponder the complexity of issues facing the Church today when it comes to bringing systemic change.
