Mikroizal.org - developing software for another world

Mikroizal.org - developing software for another world | Another World Now! | Scoop.it

We are developing software for transitioning to the next economy.
Not this economy, the next economy.

The next economy must be driven by human and ecological needs rather than profit. And it will be networked.

The term Value Network was coined by Verna Allee. The Open part was added by Sensorica. We've been working as partners with them on our latest (and we think greatest) software project for the past year and a half. You can see it in action here and get the software here. Here are some concept/tutorial slideshows.

The Sensorica open value network comes out of the global trend towards open source hardware and commons-based peer to peer (P2P) production. They offer anyone in the world a chance to contribute to their creations, and be rewarded in proportion to their contributions.

Sensorica's unique contribution to the next economy is the "Value Equation", where instead of the boss taking a profit, the income is distributed to the contributors using a democratically-decided equation. This has yet to be fully worked out, either in Sensorica or our software, but we think it is a transformative idea.

We're also working with other groups who want to use the same software: the Guerrilla Media Collective of Spain, the Tanzania Innovation Portfolio, the APRUS Drone group, and the Driftless Herbal Exchange Network close to home in SW Wisconsin.

The Internet and Social Media at a Crossroads: Capitalism or Commonism?

The Internet and Social Media at a Crossroads: Capitalism or Commonism? | Another World Now! | Scoop.it
Part of the ISIS Summit Vienna 2015: Information Society at the Crossroads: Response and Responsibility of the Sciences of Information.

The information society has come with the promise  to restore information as a commons. The promise has not yet proven true. Instead, we face trends towards the commercialisation and commoditisation of all information; towards the totalisation of surveillance and the extension of the battlefield to civil society through information warfare; towards disinfotainment overflow; towards a collapse of the technological civilisation itself.

The Vienna Summit is a multi-conference and is at the same time the 5th ICTs and Society-Conference: The Internet and Social Media at a Crossroads: Capitalism or Commonism? Perspectives for Critical Political Economy and Critical Theory.

Commoners in Transition: Enric Duran | P2P Foundation

Commoners in Transition: Enric Duran | P2P Foundation | Another World Now! | Scoop.it
Regarding Commons Transition, the first question is, can you define Commons Transition, and what it means to you?

Well, for me, when we are talking about transition and developing commons, what we are talking about is moving away from a capitalist economy based on private incomes and private profits, to a new kind of economy, where the main focus is the commons.

Do you see some existing examples of Commons Transition today?

There are more and more examples of commons resources. Free knowledge is a commons and it’s expanding; every day there are more and more tools for this. But what’s more difficult is to organize as a whole system or way of living related to the commons, no? This is not yet so widespread, perhaps because these commons are being created as volunteer work by people, or with some kind of specific funding, but not connected as a systemic whole.

GNUniting for the Commons Humanity: Mesh-Project Submitted to Coopfunding.net

GNUniting for the Commons Humanity: Mesh-Project Submitted to Coopfunding.net | Another World Now! | Scoop.it

GNUnion aims at

1.  Creating one big mesh network for the working people from the Global South and Global North by linking autonomous networks and communities of high-tech/knowledge, industrial and service workers; domestic, immigrant, rural, jobless and future workers; solidarity, activism and research networks; labour, environmental, social justice and information freedom activists,

2. Hyper- and self-empowerment of the individual nodes and networks involved,

3.  Emancipation of human labour, creativity and potential from current dominant system based on waged slavery by mesh networking existing and working alternatives and  building new ones,

4. Combining labour, digital, creative and media activism to confront system with transnationally meshed, systemic and strategic mass actions,

The network of the projects we design and develop focuses on self-organizing and connecting like-minded peers and their network bases to each other strategically and synergetically. To this end we build dynamic, free, libre, and open access spaces and tools through which our collective agendas, struggles, and energies can entangle with each other, and we can act upon them harmonically. Variety of projects listed below invites like minded peers to use the individual social and communicational power they have and collaborate around dynamic, creative and positive projects empowering them. By combining peer to peer social dynamics and technologies, and embedding them into our internal and external processes and relations we ultimately target global emancipation of labour and the commons from the capital, by empowering all the single nodes joining in collaborating creation of a commons humanity.

Below are the core projects we are currently occupied with. We have been developing those based on totally free and peer to peer contributions, cooperation and mutual aid. This allowed us to be able to stay autonomous and independant from any state or private entity, its financially and ideological influece. In order to support and empower each other we have used the spaces created by organisations like P2P Foundation, Union Solidarity International (the Organizing Network – ON), and collaborating with comrade projects Says-Us, LabourLeaks, Cyberunions, May First/People Link, and others free of charge. Most recently GNUnion became affiliated to the Fair.coop, the first global people's owned cooperative. The only exception of finacial and material support we recieved, was a small fund we used to realise the organisation of the first Networked Labour Seminar. This  fund came from the Transform europe! and Transnational Institute.

GNUnionize!

GNUnionize! | Another World Now! | Scoop.it

The form of the self-organisation of the global working classes needs to be well grounded, transnational, and global at the same time. It needs to be open and welcoming to all working people, meaning free to enter, criticize, leave, or fork. It needs to be designed as modularly integrated organized networks of social – environmental – cultural – informational – sexual so on justice movements and issue focused activists. Adoptable principles, the ‘code’, and process protocols can be pre-determined, yet the code and proocols and processes them selves has to be well documented, totally open to local, workplace, neighbourhood, issue based, activists or other sort of political collectives composed of peer nodes. It is in a way similar to the form of Anonymous, Occupy or other decentralized forms of network movements, but with more awareness on the structure and openness of the working and governing protocols. So in between these and FLOSS projects, or grassroots and worker cooperatives. It sould not be based on membership and fee. It should not be organized by intellectual activists from out side in, and from top down towards the working class. With an opposite perspective, it should be designed by volunteer participation based on self-governing principles. It should be able to put forward creative, assertive and effective direct non-violent mass action, which makes fun of and ridicule the target. Active peer to peer self-learninig should be the core cultural production and learning principle, instead of having teachers who must show the right and enlightented road to the candidate working class members, who needs to get a self-consciousness. Instead a global and networked labour union should be providing working people with the access to the tools, resources and key networks that would make self- empowerment easily possible. By linking spaces where continious open exchanges take place and carry the energy from one space to other. Utilizing How to(s), Do it Yourself and Do it With Others guides, in online and real world context, by FLOSS communication tools as well as mass-action tactics it would replace top down (issue-anger-action) organizing model, which would allow self-articulation, respectful and collaborative working praxis by harmonized through peer to peer digital communication -where possible and desirable, as well as face to face and secure meetings, cultural and recreational events cultural events. It should be collaboraing with other organizations, creative and productive projects that undermines capitalist mode of production and develop the algorithms and codes of alternative modes, as operating systems that could replace capitalism. Such global network needs to grow by linking existing radical networks groups of activists, hackers, organizers, makers, DIY groups, squatters, eco-willages, diggers, immigrants, asylum seekers, solidarity networks, and so on. In a way all nodes could associate with the globally networked ties, while keeping their autonomy.

All empowers one, one empowers all!

Catalan Integral Cooperative | Commons Transition

Catalan Integral Cooperative | Commons Transition | Another World Now! | Scoop.it

THE CATALAN INTEGRAL COOPERATIVE (OR CIC) IS A POLITICAL PROJECT SEEKING TO UNITE CONSUMER AND LABOR INITIATIVES.
The CIC’s objective is to generate a self-managed, post-capitalist society based on P2P principles and environmental and social realities. To achieve this, they decided to adapt the transition plan originally written for Ecuador’s FLOKSociety project in the Summer of 2014.

From the core work group of the CIC in this area we have suggested that they collaborate with us to tailor a plan of this type for the development of CIC in the following 5-10 years. The objective is not as a theoretical approximation, but to contribute towards identifying and developing key strategic projects that might enable the production of tangible and intangible commons to become one of the reference characteristics of the CIC’s approach to production.

The Catalan Integral Cooperative on their forthcoming implementation of the Commons Transition Plan.

WHAT’S THE CIC?

(extracted from the CIC’s website)

An Integral Cooperative is a tool to create a grassroots counterpower departing  from self-management, self-organization and direct democracy, and one that would help overcome the actual state of dependency on the structures of the system, towards a scenario of liberty full awareness, free of authority, and in which everyone could flourish under equal conditions and opportunities.

It is a constructive proposal for disobedience and widespread self-managment to rebuild our society in a bottom-up maner (in every field and in an integral way) and recover the affective human relationships of proximity based on trust.

Cooperative, as a project practicing the economical and political self-management with the equal participation of all its members. Also, because it takes the same legal form.

Integral, to bring together all the basic elements of an economy such as production, consumption, funding and a local currency. And at the same time, because it wants to integrate all the activity sectors necessary to survive: food, housing, health, education, energy, transport…

Catalan because it is organized and works mainly in the territorial scope of  Catalonia.

Interdisciplinary workshop on Do-It-Yourself networking
May 18th, Florence, Italy
Hosting conference: http://www.sigmobile.org/mobisys/2015/

Wireless technology enables today the creation of local offline networks, which can operate outside the public Internet. Even when the Internet is easily accessible, such local wireless networks form an interesting alternative, autonomous, option for communication, which 1) ensures that all connected devices are in de facto physical proximity, 2) offers opportunities and novel capabilities for creative combinations of virtual and physical contact, 3) enables free, anonymous and easy access, without the need for pre-installed applications or any credentials, and 4) can create feelings of ownership and independence, and lead to the appropriation of the hybrid space in the long-run.

In other words, local wireless networks provide the technological means for more participatory processes, benefiting from the grassroots engagement of citizens in implementing the smart city vision through novel forms of social networking, crowd sourcing, and citizen science. But for these possibilities to be materialized there are many practical, social, political, and economic challenges that need to be addressed, and which require the involvement of researchers and practitioners from different fields and backgrounds.

This workshop wishes to build on a recent successful interdisciplinary Dagstuhl seminar on “Do-It-Yourself networking”, which brought together a highly diverse group of researchers, practitioners, and activists to reflect on related technological and social issues. We made a first step to bridge the communication gap between those that build the technology (computer scientists, engineers, and hackers) and those that understand better the complex urban environment where this technology will be deployed (social and political scientists, urban planners, designers, and artists), as described in our final report.

PARAGORA

PARAGORA | Another World Now! | Scoop.it

paragora, our little symposium for ideas and their aesthetics, cultivating hybrid cultural forms which can encourage, nurture and help sustain heterodox communisms.

Schedule

Introduction

What do the futures of work, play and life look like through the eyes of the people who will produce them? How do our quantified lives unfold? paragora looks at how we make sense of our lives within civilizations increasingly governed through measurement and automation procedures. How to carve out realms of autonomous practices there?

We live in societies and economies defined by a global competitive drive for constant, algorithm-guided optimisation. However, it is important to emphasize that this competition is driven by and, in turn, drives globalized conventional industry and thus conventional economic concerns. What are the underlying motivational structures that propel our hard work and play participation in the networks, away from concern about how these networks are produced, reproduced and maintained on a daily basis? How do we cultivate cultural forms which can foster and sustain long-term commitment to social and economic justice?

paragora presents resolute and concerned thinking, artistic responses and earnest discussion on processes of gamification, quantification, ubiquitous networking and algorithmic control. Through digital and electronic means, the distinction between work, leisure and other realms of social being are becoming increasingly indistinguishable.

paragora, beside the market, welcomes you to engage with a broad and pluridisciplinary assortment of people, presentations, disciplines and events, as we encounter the material realities underlying the hopes and despair of current conditions.

Call to forums and networks for a pre-meeting on October 24-26 in Istanbul: Let's organize the 3rd Agora99 in Istanbul in 2015!

by GNUnion

Open Letter to Gezi Forums and networks on the idea of organizing the 3rd Agora99 in Istanbul in 2015

Starting in 2011, the world witnessed a wave of truly transnational and global grass-roots uprisings. In Tunisia, Egypt, Iceland, Greece, Spain, Israel, Chile, the UK, the US, Turkey, Brazil and in many other places people took to the streets to protest against injustice and inequality and for democracy. Struggles that had been ongoing for years gained new visibility and new movements and struggles formed.

These uprisings spread from on place to another ignited by distinct local issues. However, self-organisation, connectivity and horizontality have become characteristics of all of these uprisings: They practice new forms of democratic decision making and do not have leaders. They organize through assemblies, working groups, and convergence spaces and allow mass participation grounded in social networks and online meetings.

Also, transnational and translocal ties that connect groups, movements and individuals on regional, national and international levels have allowed to spread and continue these uprisings, creating networks of dignity across the world. Larger assemblies allowed for self-reflexion and exchange. One of them has been Agora99.

What is Agora99?

Code Red Alarm: Another World right now, before a global counter-guerrilla warfare hits! | Another World Now! | Scoop.it
What has been happening in Rojava and at turkey-Syrian border is extremely worrisome and tension is rapidly spreading in Turkey. Things can escalate in Turkish cities, putting nationalists, Kurdish movements, Islamist radicals, and progressives into clashes with each other, leading to the destabilization of the last brick on the wall about to collapse. Yesterday in Istanbul University campus there were IS supporters attacking and chanting radical slogans, being attacked back by left groups. Kobane has been under a very heavy attack by IS and total amount of refugees crossing border (and young and men returns to war zone) has been between 2-3 million people. In southern cities there has been increasing aggression towards new comers. No body seems to know what will bring tomorrow. This sounds pretty much like a Global Shock Doctrine in being implemented.
