Where Will The World's Water Conflicts Erupt?

Where Will The World's Water Conflicts Erupt? | Global Water Resources | Scoop.it

As the climate shifts, rivers will both flood and dry up more often, according to the latest report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Shortages are especially likely in parts of the world already strapped for water, so political scientists expect feuds will become even more intense. To track disputes worldwide, researchers at Oregon State University spent a decade building a comprehensive database of international exchanges—-both conflicts and alliances—over shared water resources. They found that countries often begin disputes belligerently but ultimately reach peaceful agreements. Says Aaron Wolf, the geographer who leads the project, “For me the really interesting part is how even Arabs and Israelis, Indians and Pakistanis, are able to resolve their differences and find a solution.”

Daily Kos: House Republicans Attempt To Take Control Of California Water | Global Water Resources | Scoop.it
By now most people have probably heard that California and other western states are facing what could be the worst drought since Europeans first arrived on the scene. There is simply not enough ...
John Slifko's insight:

If the drought continues there needs to something like a political mobilization that "Hollywood" and science can mount showing the precariouse nature of gobal water rescources at this time.  Total immersion dome technology and someone like water.org could combine to produce and distribute a global look at water and its natural wonders through time..  The NASA reports on the Californa climate are eye openers in terms of a possible disaster.  Let us look at water at local and global scales.

Water: The Carrier and Matrix of Life

Water: The Carrier and Matrix of Life | Global Water Resources | Scoop.it

IFritjof Capra, physicist and author, describes Leonardo da Vinci's fascination with water. "Water is the extension and humor (nourishing fluid) of all living forms. Without it, nothing can maintain its form."

John Slifko's insight:

I am beginning a study of Leonardo da Vinci as a beginning part of my work at the new project AWE.  That project which I co-founded with Zhenya Gershman In Los Angeles, with a global team,  is concerned with aesthetics in western cultural heritage including the Italian Renaissance..  It is a different topic than the one curated here. That having been said, one important thing to note with Leonardo da Vinci is the origin of the "scientific mind" in the matrices of art and aesthetics.  And there is an aesthetics, ethics, cosmology and science of water that I will begin to explore here at this site on global water resources.  I will provide a link here to project AWE shortly as an aside for anyone who might be interested.
