Japan's Whaling Industry Is Pushing Local Species to Extinction

Japan's Whaling Industry Is Pushing Local Species to Extinction | Global Warming | Scoop.it
“ Image via Wikipedia Unless the Japanese government engages in proactive measures to curtail hunts of whales and dolphins, valuable regional species will be eradicated, according to a new report from a London-based environmental NGO.”
Mackenzie Johnston's insight:
Japan's government is allowing poeple to hunt whales and dolphins, without even thinking of what might happen if they happen to make them extinct. We have caused so many extinctions, and we just keep hunting poor animals for luxury. They need to make it illegal to hunt endangered species, and start raising awareness to help the poor animals that are being harmed by our actions. Either they stop, or they put a limit on how many Ian be killed.

Seven Animals We Drove to Extinction - The Weather Channel

Seven Animals We Drove to Extinction - The Weather Channel | Global Warming | Scoop.it
“Seven Animals We Drove to Extinction The Weather Channel The quagga was a subspecies of zebra that grazed in southern Africa until settlers, fearful that the animal might encroach upon their livestock's grazing grounds, hunted it to extinction.”
Mackenzie Johnston's insight:
Basically, this post is saying that even though we blame their extinctions on other things, it really is us! The dodo bird, who we though was so dumb it practically killed itself off, actually was hunted down to extinction by us! And there are many animals that are critically close to extinction, because we are hunting them down! The most common way out of the seven extinct was killing them because they ate our crops! We need to raise awareness to stop this nonsense and keep the animals that were meant to be here, which is every one of them!

Mass extinction hit ancient bees at the same time as dinosaurs - GlobalPost

Mass extinction hit ancient bees at the same time as dinosaurs - GlobalPost | Global Warming | Scoop.it
“Mass extinction hit ancient bees at the same time as dinosaurs GlobalPost Scientists have long suspected that species of carpenter bees faced extinction at the same time as the dinosaurs, due to a decrease in the population of the flowering plants...”
Mackenzie Johnston's insight:
So, carpenter bees underwent a mass extinction the same time that dinosaurs went extinct! And they haven't been able to find any fossils, so they have had to completely use computers to generate the scenario. Also, honey bees are growing to be extinct. They are already decreasing by 34%. They help polinate a considerate amount of our food, so if they go we go.

Forget polar bears: Global warming will hit the tropics first - Mother Nature Network

Forget polar bears: Global warming will hit the tropics first - Mother Nature Network | Global Warming | Scoop.it
“Mother Nature Network Forget polar bears: Global warming will hit the tropics first Mother Nature Network Amber-eyed jaguars could soon boot out polar bears as king of adorable, furry species nearing extinction because of global warming.”
Mackenzie Johnston's insight:
Who would have known that the tropics would suffer before the polar bears did? The coldest day will be hotter than the hottest day in 150 years!!! I wonder what that will be like, because I will be alive, 40 years old, and it is definitely going to effect my life, and apparently other species too. There are many ways we can help out, and one simple way is to raise awareness. Save the earth for yourself and others beg and small
