U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker today announced the Department of Commerce will expand its overseas resources to help U.S. businesses navigate additional global markets and sell their goods and services to customers all over the world. The Department’s International Trade Administration will add a total of 68 new positions and open offices in five new countries, including its first in Burma. The expansion is largely focused on fast-growing markets in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa.

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker announced the “Look South” initiative during her remarks at the World Affairs Council in Los Angeles on Thursday, January 9th. The Look South effort is part of Commerce’s “Open for Business Agenda” and supports the President’s National Export Initiative by encouraging more U.S. businesses to export to more markets. Federal agencies will encourage U.S. companies – with a focus on small and medium-sized businesses – to export to the region through enhanced trade promotion events including trade missions and trade shows.
