Ukraine is undergoing a transformation of the worst kind. Its political institutions have been trampled upon by a motley collection of delusional liberals, slick politicians in fancy suits, and Nazi extremists. The social fabric is tearing apart at the seams, with each region searching for a local solution to the problems of what used to be their nation. And, in the midst of it all, the specter of profit-seeking financiers with dollar signs in their eyes is all the Ukrainian people can expect.
I have for a long time wanted to write about how the Western media, and especially the American media, portrays events happening in Russia and Russian foreign policy to Americans and American expert circles who do not read Russian...
Enrique Ferro's insight:
"...which used to portray America as a caricature of itself – a place of lynching of Blacks, of mass unemployment, of homelessness and hunger, which was about to collapse any day under the weight of its unsolved social and economic problems..." AND IT IS YET!!!
"Sadly, even without the Olympics, Russians and citizens of many other countries have tended to distrust Western media in the past few years. But the coverage of the Olympics, their preparation, opening, and conduct, convinced even the most naïve of audiences and those vehemently anti-government in Russia that the Western media hardly deserved any trust."
Since the takeover in Kiev, Ukraine is currently undergoing a complete government overhaul as the opposition is trying hard to establishing its own order. The swift and sometimes controversial steps raise doubts about how democratic the moves are.
Enrique Ferro's insight:
The president, however, didn’t confirm his resignation, saying that the country is facing the threat of a return of Nazism, as over 500 regional offices of his Party of Regions have been torched by the radicals.
A second-wave of revolution, a missing President, and a treasury that is nearly empty, Ukraine is on the brink of bankruptcy. Kiev’s finance minister said it needs $35 billion in aid by the end of 2015.
