Enrique Ferro's insight:

SWAT teams are big business and every
police force has them now

The problem is they have to invent
uses for them like raiding bars to
check for underage drinking and
making sure barbers have licenses.

It's out of control.

Communiqué du Clea - Mardi 3 décembre 2013

URGENT

A Daughter Is Born in the Swat Valley of Pakistan and Set Free by Knowledge

A Daughter Is Born in the Swat Valley of Pakistan and Set Free by Knowledge | Global politics | Scoop.it
My father always said, ''Malala will be free as a bird.'' I dreamed of going to the top of Mount Elum like Alexander the Great to touch Jupiter and even beyond the valley.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

For most Pashtuns it's a gloomy day when a daughter is born. My father's cousin Jehan Sher Khan Yousafzai was one of the few who came to celebrate my birth and even gave a handsome gift of money. Yet, he brought with him a vast family tree of our clan, the Dalokhel Yousafzai, going right back to my great-great-grandfather and showing only the male line. My father, Ziauddin, is different from most Pashtun men. He took the tree, drew a line like a lollipop from his name and at the end of it he wrote, "Malala."

Enrique Ferro's insight:

Am I suggesting the plot for a novel by some twenty-first century George Orwell? Hardly. As we edge toward a fully digital world, such things may soon be possible, not in science fiction but in our world -- and at the push of a button. In fact, the earliest prototypes of a new kind of “disappearance” are already being tested. We are closer to a shocking, dystopian reality that might once have been the stuff of futuristic novels than we imagine. Welcome to the memory hole.
