Bigger Than Science, Bigger Than Religion

Bigger Than Science, Bigger Than Religion | Global politics | Scoop.it
The world as we know it is slipping away. At the current rate of destruction, tropical rainforest could be gone within as little as 40 years. The seas are being overfished to the point of exhaustion, and coral reefs are dying from ocean acidification. Biologists say that we are currently at the start of the largest mass extinction event since the disappearance of the dinosaurs. As greenhouse gases increasingly accumulate in the atmosphere, temperatures are likely to rise faster than our current

The man who says he hasn't eaten or drunk for 70 years: Why are eminent doctors taking him seriously? | Global politics | Scoop.it
Medical science tells us that human beings rarely survive more than a week without water, and a couple of months at most without food. To even suggest otherwise is ridiculous, and also potentially dangerous.

OpEdNews Article: Article: It Takes a Life Cult to Beat a Death Cult

OpEdNews Article: Article: It Takes a Life Cult to Beat a Death Cult | Global politics | Scoop.it
President Obama avoids the religious craziness and insists on calling ISIS a "death cult." He's right, and Sigmund Freud would have understood what he means. Troubled by the carnage of WWI, Freud developed his idea of the life and death impulses that can take over societies. The point is, more death and destruction cannot solve this problem; only a devotion to life can do that.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

Religion is a distraction from real human problems. The fact is, one can't address something like ISIS and its influence in places like Europe without engaging the legacies of colonial and imperial history. The Times has an interesting profile of France's current reform-minded education minister, Najat Vallaud-Belkacem, an ambitious Muslim woman born and raised in Morocco.

OpEdNews Article: Article: Swimming with the Sharks: Goldman Sachs, Schools, and Capital Appreciation Bonds | Global politics | Scoop.it
Remember when Goldman Sachs -- dubbed by Matt Taibbi the Vampire Squid-- sold derivatives to Greece so the government could conceal its debt, then bet against that debt, driving it up? It seems that the ubiquitous investment bank has also put the squeeze on California and its school districts.

It's only been a year, but it feels like an eternity. Yet those events in Kiev – that warm November Maidan, when we had no idea how much blood and suffering would follow – are engraved on my memory.

Muted Media Reaction to Kiev's Fake Russian Invasion Photos Speaks Volumes - Russia Insider | Global politics | Scoop.it
Last Wednesday, US Senator James Inhofe, a Republican from Iowa, came to the Senate floor holding photographic "proof" of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.Unfortunately for Mr. Inhofe, he was duped. In Ukraine, the US is dragging us towards war with Russia | John Pilger | Global politics | Scoop.it
John Pilger: Washington's role in Ukraine, and its backing for the regime's neo-Nazis, has huge implications for the rest of the world
Enrique Ferro's insight:

Every year the American historian William Blum publishes his "updated summary of the record of US foreign policy" which shows that, since 1945, the US has tried to overthrow more than 50 governments, many of them democratically elected; grossly interfered in elections in 30 countries; bombed the civilian populations of 30 countries; used chemical and biological weapons; and attempted to assassinate foreign leaders.

Британские СМИ: Фантазии ЕС об Украине грозят обернуться кошмаром | Global politics | Scoop.it

We're for "freedom" -- except when it comes to spying on Americans, who must be watched by Big Brother government 24/7. So we must have "liberty diplomacy," as Jeb puts it, around the world, but liberty at home -- forget it, brother! Jeb Bush, despite his last name and all the money he's raising, is not ready for prime time, especially when it comes to foreign policy.

OpEdNews Article: Article: Pushing for War with Russia in the Senate | Global politics | Scoop.it
The US does not give a damn about the people of Ukraine. Instead the US-NATO are acting as military agents of corporate capital who want control of Ukraine for the following reasons:
Enrique Ferro's insight:

Sen. James Inhofe (R-Oklahoma) has introduced a bill to arm the U.S. puppet regime in Kiev with offensive weapons. This would expand the war along Russia's border and likely help in the neo-con plan to draw Moscow into a direct shooting match with US-NATO. Now is the time to send a message to your U.S. senator.

Fort Russ: What is behind Poroshenko's hardening rhetoric?

Fort Russ: What is behind Poroshenko's hardening rhetoric? | Global politics | Scoop.it
Enrique Ferro's insight:

It was always outrageous to see how the West (whatever that means) has supported a bunch of ultranationalists and their Nazi friends whose statehood project and practice is to impose a centralist, monolinguistic and monocultural state, suppressing the ethnic and linguistic pluralism of the country, launching even an ethnic cleansing campaign onto the regions who voted for their autonomy. That goes against the grain of the EU "values", where most of its states are federal and multilingual and multicultural! Now Kiev is imposing an open dictatorship, it had already "lustrated" the opposition, and banned parties outside the nationalist consensus, restricting thus the political market. Now it harrasses the judiciary, violates the sacrosanct "freedom of speech", and prepares a massive "witch hunt" after the terror attack in Kharkow, what reeks to a brutish false flag.

Will the EU support all this? Perhaps, as ordered by the US. Or will the EU enhance its distance and repudiate all of it?

The US must be conspiring to replace Poroshenko with an extremist dictator who could implement its plans, and even launch an all-out war in the summer against the Donbass. The Vietnam history is repeating itself: US instructors coming to train a rearmed Ukrainian army, a dictator who will finish like Ngo Dinh Diem, when the US will decide to dispose of him, and finally a massive US contingent to control the country. The prospect is bleak indeed, unless the Ukrainians find an alternative to all the mess to which they were lured by their American (and EU) friends.

Fort Russ: Kiev displays "proof' of Russian military involvement

Fort Russ: Kiev displays "proof' of Russian military involvement | Global politics | Scoop.it
Enrique Ferro's insight:

As preposterous as this might seem, there is a method to the madness. The real target of this exhibition are the people of Ukraine. They are told, in no uncertain terms, this is our official position on what has been happening in Ukraine. If you try to contradict us, you are, at best, misinformed, and at worst an agent of an enemy aggressor state--Russia.
