Ukrainian Maidan scenario will not work in Russia, Communist leader tells US ambassador | Global politics | Scoop.it
Russian people are interested in better relations with foreign nations, but the country will never succumb to pressure from abroad or follow imposed policies, Communist leader Gennadiy Zyuganov said during talks with US Ambassador John Tefft.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

“Russian society has the good intention to strengthen the relations with both East and West, but we will no longer allow anyone to torment us. This is our principled stand,” the leader of the Russian Communist party was quoted as saying by RIA Novosti.

The Minsk ceasefire deal, point by point

The Minsk ceasefire deal, point by point | Global politics | Scoop.it
A glimpse of hope has appeared for peace in Ukraine after a 13-point memorandum was signed Thursday in Minsk.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

I don't expect the agreement will prosper, because the Ukrainian regime is too nationalistic and is under the surveillance of the Nazi militias, who enjoy the US neocons' support. Their ideology demands a full Ukrainisation of the country, and they will sabotage the agreement's linguistic and cultural "privileges". Sooner or later... The Novorossian resistance will have to be very alert, and control their territory tightly in order to prevent Nazi death squads from entering...

An agreement has been brokered in Minsk to stop hostilities in Ukraine from Sunday. The deal was reached after marathon talks between the leaders of France, Germany, Russia and Ukraine, and signed by the Ukrainian rebels.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic Aleksandr Zakharchenko, who signed the Minsk document, said it required additional consultation and warned that “if these terms are broken, there will be no new meetings or memoranda.”

On Sunday, international news outlets the Guardian and Le Monde, working with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), published articles based on their analysis of leaked files showing that the Swiss private banking arm of HSBC, Europe's largest bank, functioned for years as a tax evasion and money laundering firm.

OpEdNews Quicklink: What Would It Be Like to Live on the Moon? | Global politics | Scoop.it
The idea of building a lunar outpost has long captured people's imaginations. But what would it really be like to live on the moon? Altogether, data beamed back from numerous missions suggest that no place on the moon would be a pleasant place to live, at least compared with Earth. Lunar days stretch for about 14 Earth days with average temperatures of 253 degrees Fahrenheit (123 degrees Celsius), while lunar nights also last 14 Earth days (due to the moon's rotation) and maintain a frigid cold

Nowhere else has the world witnessed this complex and unique meeting of states, empires and faiths as Syria. Who can imagine that the great Umayyad Mosque in Damascus was originally a temple to Jupiter? Later converted to a Christian basilica to John the Baptist, and in turn became what some consider the fourth-holiest place in Islam.

#MuslimLivesMatter: Protests over BBC’s Chapel Hill murders ‘silence’

#MuslimLivesMatter: Protests over BBC’s Chapel Hill murders ‘silence’ | Global politics | Scoop.it
A protest will take place outside the BBC on Thursday evening to condemn the broadcaster’s minimal coverage of the Chapel Hill murders in the US, which saw three Muslim students shot and killed.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

So are the Western MSM: corrupt to the bone. They only broadcast what they are told, and so when anything diverts from the script, they hide it! In this case the password was Islamophobia, and so when the rabid and hysteric campaign has its fruits, so that unbalanced and racist-swayed people go out and kill the innocent, the Western media ignore it. Double standard? Indeed, or more: double infamy!

OpEdNews Article: Page 2 of Article: "Realists" Warn Against Ukraine Escalation | Global politics | Scoop.it
The neocons' war-and-more-war bandwagon is loaded up again and rolling downhill as "everyone who matters" in Washington is talking up sending sophisticated weapons to Kiev to escalate Ukraine's civil war, but some "realists," an endangered species in U.S. foreign policy, dissent, notes Robert Parry.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

"Putin & Co. are also genuinely worried about America's efforts to promote 'regime change' around the world -- including Ukraine -- a policy that could eventually threaten their own positions. It is lingering fear, rather than relentless ambition, that underpins Russia's response in Ukraine.

"Moreover, the Ukraine crisis did not begin with a bold Russian move or even a series of illegitimate Russian demands; it began when the United States and European Union tried to move Ukraine out of Russia's orbitand into the West's sphere of influence. That objective may be desirable in the abstract, but Moscow made it abundantly clear it would fight this process tooth and nail.

For one tortured weekend, the parents of Kayla Mueller refused to believe that their daughter was dead. The militants acquiesced and sent at least three photographs of her corpse.

OpEdNews Article: Article: On the Precipice of Nuclear War

OpEdNews Article: Article: On the Precipice of Nuclear War | Global politics | Scoop.it
This article tells of the real possibility of nuclear war with Russia and the media's misinformation in an attempt to promote yet another war.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

For almost two centuries the US has insisted on enforcing the Monroe Doctrine in this hemisphere, and no major US politician would dare to suggest it is illegal or invalid. All would say it is America's right to maintain control of this hemisphere in order to protect ourselves. Why then does Russia not have the right to keep foreign powers from its borders, just as the US? The US, through its puppet NATO, has forced its way to the very doorstep of Russia, even though after the fall of the Soviet Republic, we agreed not to expand into any of the former Soviet states. We completely reneged on that promise, another unreported fact by corporate media, and encircled Russia in Eastern Europe with weapons and bases.
