British view of the Russian foreign policy: Misunderstanding or distortion?

British view of the Russian foreign policy: Misunderstanding or distortion? | Global politics | Scoop.it
When one listens to what British officials and media pundits have to say about Russia's policy towards Ukraine, it is hard not to wonder if it is a simple misunderstanding or a deliberate distortion of facts.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

Until the events of late 2013-early 2014, the Crimeans lived a normal life in a normal country. But the violent coup in Kiev staged with Western acquiescence has led to the rise of radical Ukrainian nationalism, intolerance, and anti-Russian hysteria. Parts of the country were rampant with constitutional abuse, street riots, and sieges of administrative buildings, police stations and military units. From the very beginning the people of Crimea chose to disassociate themselves decidedly from what was happening elsewhere in Ukraine, insulted by the anti-Russian rhetoric of the Maidan leaders and activists, alarmed by their calls to “hang Ruskies” and protested against illegitimate installation of a new leadership.

EU extends economic sanctions against Russia for 6 months - official | Global politics | Scoop.it
The European Union has extended economic sanctions against Russian for a further six months, an EU official said. This follows the EU’s decision Friday to extend sanctions against Crimea for another year.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev ordered his chief of staff to ask President Putin for an extension of Russian counter-sanctions following the EU decision. The premier also ordered the preparation of a decree listing all categories of products and types of transactions covered by the restrictive measures.

Enrique Ferro's insight:

"At Kaspersky Lab we diligently work to protect our users and to keep our products secure through intense code review and vulnerability assessment efforts. We are closely reviewing and investigating the information disclosed today in order to assess the potential level of risk it may pose to our infrastructure and how to effectively mitigate it."

Fort Russ: Ukrainian toddler with a knife: "Zig heil! I will stab the Russians!" (video) | Global politics | Scoop.it
While I don't believe this clip speaks for the entire country, it is certainly indicative of the more radical parent-elements. While every country on earth is home to a spectrum of ideologies from left to right, the usual left-right balance has been thrown out of sink in today's Ukraine, as this video is just one of a number of videos coming out of Ukraine-2015, thanks to smartphones, Youtube and proud parents.

Ukraine, Greece & IMF: ‘Tale of two debt negotiations’

Ukraine, Greece & IMF: ‘Tale of two debt negotiations’ | Global politics | Scoop.it
Western countries have their people in charge of the Ukrainian economy ready to follow an austerity path while in the case of Greece they don’t have such control after Syriza party’s victory, Jack Rasmus, professor of Political Economy, told RT.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

In Ukraine the austerity is increasing and that’s why the IMF is willing to put more money in. In the case of Greece of course there is a fight against austerity. The IMF in the Greek situation only has 21 out of the $300 billion of debt committed there - most of that debt is held by the European Commission and to some extent the European Central Bank. So it’s a negotiation with three parties and the IMF is a junior party but it’s also taking a hardest line of the Troika in Europe in negotiations with Greece.

Thousands have gathered in front of the Greek Parliament in support of Athens’s place in the eurozone, calling for a debt agreement to be reached as EU leaders and international creditors race against time to avert the country’s looming default.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

Is this crowd authentic or just another Maidan troublemakers? Most likely they are members of the parties defeated in the elections, whose leadership wants to go back to government and submit to the Troika diktat!

Enrique Ferro's insight:
