Third-term power grab for Barack Obama? Why not?!

Third-term power grab for Barack Obama? Why not?! | Global politics | Scoop.it
US President Obama, after congratulating himself this week as a “pretty good president,” expressed some bewilderment that the Constitution prevents him from running for a third term as supreme leader of the American superpower.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

Usually the US presidents indulge during their second term into their worst deeds. Their hands are untied, so they don't feel constrained by electoral needs. It is also during their second term that their first term's abuse of power receives a wider scrutiny. Theoretically at least, because nowadays the public opinion has been mostly gagged.

Hiroshima, Nagasaki 70th anniversary: Anti-Trident activists join global fast against nukes

Hiroshima, Nagasaki 70th anniversary: Anti-Trident activists join global fast against nukes | Global politics | Scoop.it
Anti-nuclear activists will mark the 70th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki next week by taking part in a four-day fast against Trident.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

The Stone Mountain guy on video shows a sick frame of mind, which has been encouraged by US propaganda in order to whitewash its deed before the public opinion. Nothing justifies the cold and barbarous act of killing hundreds of thousands of civilians in one stroke... This bomb was launched to intimidate the whole world, and of course the Soviet Union to begin with. It was one of the most criminal deeds registered in world history. Only the US doctrine of disproportionate mass action in full disregard of human life could coldly elaborate a Manhattan plan and implement it!

Russian military controls 500km of offshore Arctic - Defense Ministry | Global politics | Scoop.it
Russia’s military surveillance in the Arctic maintains control over airspace and ocean 500km from the shore, Defense Ministry claims. Soviet-era military bases along the opening Northern Route are being de-mothballed and renovated.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

If the US claim that Russia's behaviour in Ucraine warrant the US and NATO to monitor Russian activities in their sovereign Arctic area, the Russians could claim the same in reverse.

Nine American marines have been arrested in Vienna’s airport for carrying assault rifles and handguns on board a commercial airliner without proper clearance. They were on their way to Ukraine to take part in Exercise Saber Guardian that began July 20.

Why does the Western liberal media love Russian criminals?

Why does the Western liberal media love Russian criminals? | Global politics | Scoop.it
When you lie down with the dogs, you wake up with the fleas. Western media is shattering its own credibility by soft-soaping post-Soviet criminals.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

Anybody who knows even the smallest amount about Russia is fully aware that the 90s are regarded as the nation’s nadir. Most political figures of the age are about as well regarded as tooth-extraction, without anesthetic. Russians over-30 can’t help but shudder when the subject is broached. It was a stretch of extraordinary suffering in Russia. It was also a period when lawlessness ruled.

‘Hypocritical’: Russian Foreign Ministry blasts US statements over NED undesirability

‘Hypocritical’: Russian Foreign Ministry blasts US statements over NED undesirability | Global politics | Scoop.it
Russian diplomats say that the US concern over inclusion of the National Endowment for Democracy into the list of undesirable groups was hardly justified as this NGO is known for projects aimed at regime change in foreign nations.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

An analysis of real-life projects sponsored and executed by this organization shows that the majority of those were destined to misbalance the internal political situation in countries that attempt to remain independent and act in accordance with their own national interests, the ministry added.

‘Jeremy Corbyn will cure Labour Party of its Blairite virus’ – union

‘Jeremy Corbyn will cure Labour Party of its Blairite virus’ – union | Global politics | Scoop.it
One of Britain’s biggest trade unions has described Labour leadership candidate Jeremy Corbyn as the “antidote” to the “Blairite virus” gripping the party.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

Corbyn will win, he must win, if something is to change. The Blairites smearing him and threatening splitting the party are only panicking for their privileges and their power abuse, after cheating the electorate by using a label they don't deserve.

Russia allows for unofficial visit of PACE delegation to Crimea

Russia allows for unofficial visit of PACE delegation to Crimea | Global politics | Scoop.it
A senior State Duma MP has said that Russia would look into possibility of the visit to Crimea by the head of PACE’s Social-Democratic caucus, Andreas Gross, albeit not within the remit of the Russia-PACE dialogue.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

Pushkov added that the visits of European politicians to Crimea was a mark of a new, more democratic approach to the choice of the Crimean people as earlier Europe had de facto refused the republic the right to choose their fate during what could be described as a coup in Kiev.

“Lawmakers from European countries who have already visited Crimea and who will go there in future are doing this to communicate with the people and form an impression about local thoughts and inclinations,” Pushkov told reporters.

Families thank Russian cop for 'heroic' ramming maneuver that saved children

Families thank Russian cop for 'heroic' ramming maneuver that saved children | Global politics | Scoop.it
Parents of Russian children rescued in a car accident by police officer Aleksandr Kosolapov, who shielded a bus from a car that crossed into an oncoming lane, risking his own life, would like to thank him in person, they told RT.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

Some have claimed that a car like that couldn't possibly cause the death of a number of children. That is a frivolous argument. If the car collisioned at high speed against, say, the first bus, the next in line could hurt it and then a chain disaster could take place... What this shows is that Russian policemen are taught to save lives, and not to shoot on sight like in the US.

Moscow vows to retaliate against latest US sanctions

Moscow vows to retaliate against latest US sanctions | Global politics | Scoop.it
Russian Foreign Ministry has slammed fresh US sanctions, saying that Washington wants to aggravate tensions with Moscow and added that the move “would not be left without our reaction."
Enrique Ferro's insight:

"Having imposed new sanctions against Russian citizens and companies, the US has once again demonstrated that it has opted for aggravating confrontation," the ministry said in a statement Friday.

“Continuing to cite the situation in Ukraine, Washington continues to expand the anti-Russia sanction campaign instead of pushing Kiev towards the implementation of Minsk agreements."

Litvinenko lawyer claims Russian state ‘involved’ in ex-KGB agent’s poisoning

Litvinenko lawyer claims Russian state ‘involved’ in ex-KGB agent’s poisoning | Global politics | Scoop.it
The Russian state is ‘in one form or another’ is involved in the murder of ex-KGB agent Alexander Litvinenko, claimed the victim’s layer, adding that Litvinenko’s radioactive poisoning might have affected people in London.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

And yet, what interest could ever have the Russian state in eliminating a low ranking spy who had nothing to expose (after the poisoning he was alive for long enough to do it). All this gesticulation is designed to add up to the current Russophobic hysteria. Peruse the Western media and you'll find everyday a derogatory item over Russia. It has become an obsession! Unfortunately there are simple people who end up believing something, after so much mass slamming.
