Christian activists gather enough support to launch bill banning abortion

Christian activists gather enough support to launch bill banning abortion | Global politics | Scoop.it
A group of Orthodox Christian activists claim that they have gathered 100,000 signatures under a petition seeking to completely ban abortions in Russia – a number enough to make it a valid legislative initiative.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

It would be a step backward. Hopefully these 100 000 are not revealing a 40% of the population as Fundamentalists like in the US. Perhaps some control would be welcome to counter the decrease of the population, such as raising the age, but total banning, including on medical advice, sounds barbaric. On the other hand, sexual education in school and  contraception must be encouraged.

Most Russians want their country to dominate the globe - poll

Most Russians want their country to dominate the globe - poll | Global politics | Scoop.it
The majority of Russians think their country should return to superpower status or at least become a regional leader, a new public opinion poll has shown.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

The title of the article is misleading, it isn't that Russia wants to dominate the world, but that it deserves to take its place as a relevant state, among the first. The Russians seem split in their preference: either the second or among the 10-15 first. Is it so odd? Russia has a huge potential, and whatever the people thing it is by definition a competing country. What Russians feel wrong is to remain an underdeveloped and irrelevant state as it happened under Yeltsin. But they don't look revanchist, neither do they claim an exceptional role, they only expect to occupy their rightful place.

Disgusting, how fanatic brain washing can damage beyond redemption people who otherwise could live their lives in a more blossoming way that blow themselves up and murder innocent people along the way...

'Obama says the US is indispensable, meaning all other countries are dispensable?'

'Obama says the US is indispensable, meaning all other countries are dispensable?' | Global politics | Scoop.it
If indispensable means invasive than there is no country that has invaded more states in the world, that has violated human rights and international law more than has the US, foreign policy expert Richard Becker told RT.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

This was a speech that might be described as “visions of empire”. You have President Obama again saying that the US is the indispensable nation. I do not know what that makes the other 195 countries in the world; I guess they are all dispensable. The only way you can reconcile that is if you consider the word indispensable as synonymous with invasive because there is no country that has invaded more countries in the world that has violated human rights and international law more than has the US. Contrary to all of the nice sounding words that came out of President Obama’s mouth on that day, it was a point.
