Obama is Bullish on War, No Matter How You Spin It | Global politics | Scoop.it
Barack Obama has now been at war longer than any president in United States history, as the New York Times pointed out on Sunday. Barring some sort of peace miracle in the next six months, he will be the only president who ever served two full terms in office while constantly being at war.

How Do European Masses See Russia? Eurovision Gave One Answer

How Do European Masses See Russia? Eurovision Gave One Answer | Global politics | Scoop.it
By accident of geopolitics or diplomatic design, Ukraine has been largely absent from international headlines recently. The violence in the east has subsided; the government in Kiev has been in disarray, and Russia has been distracted by Syria. The Minsk-2 agreement limps along.
Enrique Ferro's insight:
The juries betrayed the same political instincts as in the past; there was a marked preference for Ukraine over Russia, while some seemed to opt for Australia as an ingenious third way. The “people” were braver. Rather than treating Russia and Ukraine as either-or, they often plumped for both, putting them close together, at or near the top. It could be a matter of musical taste, but across the board Russia received far more votes from the “people” than from the national juries.

On Russia Clinton and Trump Are Both as Bad as the Other

On Russia Clinton and Trump Are Both as Bad as the Other | Global politics | Scoop.it
As of this past week Americans voters have their choices in November—all three of them. I do not see them as nearly as clear or simple as a lot of people might have imagined even a little while ago. The exception is the third of these alternatives, the right to remain silent—a phrase ordinarily used in another context but perfectly correct in this one. This position seems to have just gotten a great deal clearer, if not simpler.

Press Freedom in Russia? Tune In To the Political Talk Shows and See For Yourself

Press Freedom in Russia? Tune In To the Political Talk Shows and See For Yourself | Global politics | Scoop.it
I remember with a shudder an exchange I had with Elmar Brok on 5 March 2015 on The Network, a debate program of Euronews. Brok, a German, is the chairman of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs. He comes from Angela Merkel’s CDU party and within the Parliament is in the European People’s Party bloc, on the center right, the bloc which really calls the shots in the EP.
Enrique Ferro's insight:
"I happened to be in the European Parliament auditorium in Brussels on 26 April awaiting the screening of Andrei Nekrasov’s film on Bill Browder and the manufactured myth of Sergei Magnitsky’s murder when Yevgeni and his Russian cameraman looked around the nearly empty room to find someone to comment on the film’s last minute cancellation."
SO MUCH FOR FREEDOM OF SPEECH!

Maria Zakharova's Tear-Jerking Sob Song About Assad for Eurovision 2017

Maria Zakharova's Tear-Jerking Sob Song About Assad for Eurovision 2017 | Global politics | Scoop.it
The official representative of Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova has suggested that a song about Syrian President Bashar Assad be performed at Eurovision next year. Here are her comments on the contest that just finished in Stockholm with the triumph of the Ukrainian singer Jamala:
Enrique Ferro's insight:
The Tatar language is now recognized in Crimea and used as an official language, like in Tatarstan. Ironically the Crimean Tatars live now in the same country as the other Tatars, whereas in Ukraine they were isolated. They will end up finding out which are their interests. They have a grudge against the Russians because the latter seized Crimea, as the Tatars had done 300 years earlier. The Tatar Khanate in Crimea enjoyed autonomy from the Ottoman Empire, and they had a lucrative business by kidnapping Slavs and selling them as slaves in Istanbul, and that ended when the Russians moved in.

Russians: Why Not Send Blacklisted Artists to Eurovision-2017 in the Ukraine?

Russians: Why Not Send Blacklisted Artists to Eurovision-2017 in the Ukraine? | Global politics | Scoop.it
Whatever the greedy Greek King Midas touched turned to gold, leaving him starving. These days, it looks like every Ukrainian triumph turns into a joke or a farce.Take the recent Eurovision song contest, much discussed in Europe, Russia, Ukraine and at Russia Insider.
Enrique Ferro's insight:
The rest of the Europeans if they had some conscience should suggest songs related to Nazi atrocities, including those perpetrated by collaborators (like the some Crimean Tatars or Bandera's thugs), or Germany on Dresden, Armenians on the Ottoman genocide, Greeks on the Smirna massacres, Serbs and Jews on the Croatian Ustashi... And a lot more, since the political taboo has been lifted by the Russophobic appetite of both lunatic Ukrainians and the opportunistic Eurovision "authorities", now anything goes, and so this silly festival will be finally killed by their own stupidity.

The March of Folly Defined: In 1984, Barbara W. Tuchman wrote the much acclaimed book, The March of Folly: From Troy to Vietnam in which she documented four cases where governments pursued policies contrary to their own interests, despite the availability of feasible alternatives, and despite evidence that the chosen courses of action would have devastating consequences.

Article: The Danger of Demonization

Article: The Danger of Demonization | Global politics | Scoop.it
Article: The Danger of Demonization - As the West is sucked deeper into the Syrian conflict and starts a new Cold War with Russia, the mainstream U.S. news media has collapsed as a vehicle for reliable information, creating a danger for the world, writes Robert Parry.
Enrique Ferro's insight:
In those "old days," that sort of behavior was deemed unprofessional and you would expect a senior editor to come down hard on you. Now, however, it seems that you'd only get punished if you quoted some dissident or allowed such a person onto an op-ed page or a talk show, someone who didn't share Official Washington's "group think" about the "enemy." Deviation from "group think" has become the real disqualifier.

What ISIS Women Want

What ISIS Women Want | Global politics | Scoop.it
What ISIS Women Want « | Foreign Policy | the Global Magazine of News and Ideas
Enrique Ferro's insight:
Young men and women are in need of the absolute and of rebellion. This is now provided by extremist Jihadism, as it is absolutely contrary to all moral and political received ideas and practices. And they have found a banner, Jihadism, and a field, which is Syria. Indeed the Western MSM are the main culprit for this brainwashing, as for years they have demonized the Syrian government, they have voiced out all sort of lies on atrocities without really checking, on massacres and chemical weapons, hideous propaganda and invented documentation, and more. There has been a lot of noise in order to present the Syrian people as the victim of a ruthless regime, and the Islamist rebels have been presented since Day 1 as peaceful demonstrators and rightful fighters for freedom and democracy, silencing their crimes and their fanaticism, and certainly their collusion with foreign powers. What do you expect? For years the young have been exposed to this single narrative, parroted by all the media in the West, which wouldn't tolerate any critical voice or testimony. Eventually the idealism of the youth has made them easy recruits for the most extremist recruiters, and they have been lured into the ideological trap of Jihadism. Once ensnared into the sect, they are manipulated for any "divine" mission, and not only in Syria, but also in their adopted or home countries. As the ideological virus of supreme salvation through apocalypse was inoculated in their inmature minds, blowback was inevitable. But of course the opinion makers in the West will not accept it, self-criticism is not in their agenda.

Eurovision 2016: Russia Gets a Much Deserved Slap in the Face

Eurovision 2016: Russia Gets a Much Deserved Slap in the Face | Global politics | Scoop.it
“Did they expect us to treat them with any respect?”Roger Waters, The Fletcher Memorial HomeI never had anything good to say about the Eurovision. I could tell you all the reasons why I hate the crap people nowadays think of as “pop music”. But since Paul Joseph Watson did a special video expressing pretty much the same feelings as I have, I will give him the floor:
Enrique Ferro's insight:
I have always found it embarrassing that Russian singers (I would not call them “artists”) participated into this imbecilic display of kitsch and bad taste and I think that the Russian media out to be ashamed of having mislead the Russian people into believing that the Russian contestant this year a a chance in hell of winning (the Russian reporters who aired that nonsense know full well that, just as the beauty pageants, the Oscars, the Cannes Festival and all the other capitalist pseudo-cultural Ersatz – all these events are rigged, all the deals paid for months before the event, and the integrity of it all on par with pro wrestling). So I sure hope that this time around Russians will take that petty “fuck you” as a good slap in their face. Because a slap can wake you up and make you regain consciousness.
