Brexit Is 'The 1989 of This Generation'

Brexit Is 'The 1989 of This Generation' | Global politics | Scoop.it
The Brexit referendum result is a milestone separating modern history into “before” and “after” eras, Daniel McAdams of the Ron Paul Institute for Peace and Prosperity believes, saying that the results of this vote will trigger a series of events that will change the world.
Enrique Ferro's insight:
Poland? Where would it go? The big Polish problem now is the likely return of two million Poles working in the UK, and who represent Poland's major source of income.

Britain Won't Be Able to Leave EU For Another Four Years

Britain Won't Be Able to Leave EU For Another Four Years | Global politics | Scoop.it
The results of a recent referendum show that Britain will soon withdraw from the EU. However, the process will be difficult and may take about four years, Süddeutsche Zeitung wrote.
Enrique Ferro's insight:
Considering the EU's lack of respect for the national referendums, I think they will find some trick to invalidate this one. Don't forget that the disastrous Treaty of Lisbon (which has created the present ultracentralized Union) originated in the denial of previous referendums which rejected its previous incarnations.

Brexit: Britain Has Gone From ‘5th Largest Economy to 6th Overnight’

Brexit: Britain Has Gone From ‘5th Largest Economy to 6th Overnight’ | Global politics | Scoop.it
The results of the EU referendum in Britain are “deeply regretful” for Germany, Chancellor Angela Merkel said Friday. “This is a blow to Europe and European unity,” she said. Radio Sputnik discussed the issue with Shehab Khan, a political journalist based in London.
Enrique Ferro's insight:
Merkel will have to follow Cameron's path, and the EU will have to make some soul searching. This is not wishful thinking, but necessity, although I'm not quite sure, considering their arrogance.

WikiLeaks Teases Secrets to Blast Hillary Clinton's Presidential Campaign

“I have had years of experience in dealing with Hillary Clinton and have read thousands of her cables. Why the UK Said Bye Bye to the EU

Why the UK Said Bye Bye to the EU | Global politics | Scoop.it
So what started as a gamble by David Cameron on an outlet for domestic British discontent, to be used as a lever to bargain with Brussels for a few more favors, has metastasized into an astonishing political earthquake about the dis-integration of the European Union.
Enrique Ferro's insight:
The irrepressibly mediocre Donald Tusk, president of the European Council, posing as a “historian”, had warned that Brexit, “could be the beginning of the destruction of not only the EU but Western political civilization in its entirety”. That’s foolish. Brexit proved that it’s immigration, stupid. And once again, it’s the economy, stupid (although the British neoliberal establishment never paid attention). But serious bets can be made the EU system in Brussels won’t learn anything from the shock therapy – and won’t reform itself.
