The Dreadful Kagan Clan——Hillary’s Warmongers In Waiting

The Dreadful Kagan Clan——Hillary’s Warmongers In Waiting | Global politics | Scoop.it
The U.S. is heading straight for a fiscal calamity in the next decade. Even if you believe the CBO’s Rosy Scenario projections——-which assume that we will go 207 months thru 2026 without a recession or double the longest expansion on record and nearly 4X the normal cycle length—–we will still end up with $28 trillion of national debt and a $1.3 trillion annual deficit (5% of GDP) by 2026.

Snowden Calls For ‘Iron-Clad Protection’ of Whistleblowers After New Insider Revelations

Snowden Calls For ‘Iron-Clad Protection’ of Whistleblowers After New Insider Revelations | Global politics | Scoop.it
Edward Snowden has called for a mechanism that would guard potential whistleblowers from repercussions and acknowledge their positive role. The former NSA contractor’s proposal comes after a senior Pentagon official shed light on Thomas Drake’s case.“We need iron-clad, enforceable protections for whistleblowers, and we need a public record of success stories.

Australian Court, Lawyers in New MH 17 Fabrication

Australian Court, Lawyers in New MH 17 Fabrication | Global politics | Scoop.it
Publicity for this claim in the Australian media, amplified by the Financial Times and Guardian of London, has not been substantiated by the court itself. According to a spokesman for Roderick Liddle, the ECHR registrar,  there is no confirmation that the LDH claim has been received. If it is, lawyers practising at the court say,  it is fifteen months past the filing deadline set in ECHR rules, and barred by the ECHR requirement that claimants make their case in national courts first.
Enrique Ferro's insight:
Despite months of advertising by Dutch law firms for MH17 cases, Amsterdam sources reported last week that not a single case has been filed in a Dutch court to date. The Dutch assessment is that there is insufficient evidence about what and who caused the downing of the aircraft. The one case already submitted to the ECHR by the family of a Dutch victim has been attacked by Skinner and his associates because it targets the Ukraine government for culpability.

Labor’s Sell-Out and the Sanders Campaign

Labor’s Sell-Out and the Sanders Campaign | Global politics | Scoop.it
Early last Fall, I received a surprising circular email from a high union officer and erstwhile leader of SDS, way back in the early 1960s. It contained an urgent appeal: get behind Hillary, because this is an era for defensive struggles. The letter-writer had also been an early and articulate opponent of the US invasion of Vietnam. I puzzled at his conversion to the War Candidate. I winced, some months later, as his union staffers crossed the border from my own Wisconsin to work feverishly in Iowa against….the labor candidate, Bernie Sanders, who lost by a hair (perhaps a hair that did not exist!). And again back in Wisconsin, where the best or worst efforts of his union, joined to the purported idealists of the labor movement, SEIU, failed somehow to keep the state in line for Hillary. They could not carry the working class vote.

The Financial Invasion of Greece

The Financial Invasion of Greece | Global politics | Scoop.it
The IMF says it will not reduce Greece’s debt by a single penny. It will keep the debt in place. The problem is the way that the European central banks keep their balance sheets, if it breaks down Greece’s debt owed to the IMF, then the countries Germany, France and other countries whose banks are bailed out will have to take a loss and they refuse to lose a single penny. So the IMF has not made a creative proposal. It has repeated what it said a year ago without changing a single word. It says okay, we’re going to keep every penny of debt in place but we’re going to give you a fudging number. We’’e only going to charge you 1.5% interest and you won’t have to pay the debt for 25 years. So you don’t get a debt markdown, but you won’t have to pay interests for 25 years and we’ll charge you only a little bit of interest.

There’s only one kicker. You’re going to have to cancel your pensions, write them down, impose austerity, privatize your government, and you’re going to have to shrink your economy so that it will shrink by about 1, 2, 3% a year so that the 1.5% interest that we’re charging as little as it is, is going to absorb all the income growth you have. Every penny of growth of have from the next 25 years ,you’ll have to end up paying the German banks.

Donald Trump: He Can't Win, Can He?

Donald Trump: He Can't Win, Can He? | Global politics | Scoop.it
In a book published in 2004, Harvard political scientist Samuel Huntington argued that Latino immigration was endangering the American way of life. Trump has campaigned on a shrill version of the same sinister idea.

A decade earlier, Huntington had identified Islam as the main threat to Western civilization and by extension, American supremacy in the world.

Trump builds on the war on terrorism adopted by the West after 2001, and extends it to all Muslims.
Enrique Ferro's insight:
By the time he announced his candidacy, Trump had another audience to add to his base: white male workers who had lost their jobs, or their houses, or their families, or all three, were tuning him in and buying his message. Trump offered scapegoats to alienated Americans with good reasons to blame others for their declining prospects. Trump paid for his own campaign so he could announce he was beholden to no one. His unpredictable performances, his attacks on opponents, his comic nicknames for adversaries, all rang the entertainment meter that drives U.S. media.

This year's celebration of victory in World War II on May 9th -- called "The Great Patriotic War" in Russia and the former Soviet states -- was a touching and memorable event in Russia. Each year millions participate in commemorative parades and lay flowers at war memorials. Why I Am #NeverHillary

Why I Am #NeverHillary | Global politics | Scoop.it
Hillary Clinton’s coronation at the Democratic national convention is likely but not a foregone conclusion. Since the superdelegates won’t vote until July, and neither she nor Bernie Sanders will arrive in Philly with the requisite number of pledged delegates to clinch the nomination, there is still the possibility that the party bosses will see sense, internalize the polls that show she’s weaker than him against Trump, and push the superdelegates to support the populist senator from Vermont.
Enrique Ferro's insight:
Voting for a politician also tells them: “I agree with what you promise to do.” There is no indication — none, zero, nada — that Hillary wouldn’t continue her every-war-a-good-war philosophy were she to become president. Unlike Trump, she has never questioned the usefulness, legality or ethics of use of force as America’s go-to approach to foreign policy. I refuse to throw good blood after bad.

Clinton's 'Broken Promise' on California Debate Called 'Insult' to Voters

Clinton's 'Broken Promise' on California Debate Called 'Insult' to Voters | Global politics | Scoop.it
Bernie Sanders calls it an "insult" to the people of California while many others consider it a promise broken. With no apparent upside for her campaign and despite an agreement earlier this year, Hillary Clinton has said she will not participate in a debate with Sanders in California ahead of that state's crucial primary next month.
Enrique Ferro's insight:
The San Francisco Chronicle, which had offered to co-host a debate in the state, described Clinton's decision as a "broken promise" while a spokesperson for Fox News, which had hoped to produce the event, said the network was "disappointed that Secretary Clinton has declined our debate invitation, especially given that the race is still contested and she had previously agreed to a final debate before the California primary."
