After the 2014 pullout from Afghanistan, NATO is set to stage huge European war games involving 40,000 troops, about seven times the size of the recent drills in the Baltic, with critics in the crisis-hit EU calling it a waste of money.

Fort Russ: EU-Kiev diplomatic relations are deteriorating

Fort Russ: EU-Kiev diplomatic relations are deteriorating | Global politics | Scoop.it
Enrique Ferro's insight:

"Poroshenko was not invited to the December EU summit".

It is more juicy than just this. According to New Europe, a weekly mostly distributed within the EU institutions and with internal sources of information, Poroshenko had been actually invited by Donald Tusk, the appointed President of the Council of Ministers, without telling any EU government. This arrogant initiative by the former arrogant Polish chief of the Polish government wasn't enjoyed by the EU PMs and Presidents of government, so Poroshenko wasn't invited after all!

No sanctions would ever force Russia into changing its policy - Kremlin

No sanctions would ever force Russia into changing its policy - Kremlin | Global politics | Scoop.it
The continuing economic pressure will never affect Moscow’s foreign policy, Vladimir Putin’s press secretary has said.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

As it turns out, Merkel is threatening with new sanctions if there are new ceasefire violations, but most of them are provoked by the junta hirelings. That is a dangerous (and hollow) game, it reminds me the Syrian Red Line by Obama, which was promptly crossed by... the rebels by accusing the government, and Obama felt to oblige (even though he knew what it was about).

Saudi Arabia execution rate 'truly unprecedented' - Amnesty Intl

Saudi Arabia execution rate 'truly unprecedented' - Amnesty Intl | Global politics | Scoop.it
Amnesty International says there is no evidence the latest "alarming spike" in executions in Saudi Arabia is in any way related to the battle against terrorism in general or the Islamic State militant group in particular.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

American Congress and President won't denounce this, let alone impose sanctions, because the Saudi barbarian regime is their SoB friends. And how could they? After all the US also execute people, including mentally ill and minors?!?

‘We should absolutely consider lethal aid’ to Ukraine – US Gen. Martin Dempsey

‘We should absolutely consider lethal aid’ to Ukraine – US Gen. Martin Dempsey | Global politics | Scoop.it
Even with a sustainable ceasefire active in Ukraine, the US top brass is nursing schemes of arming Kiev troops with lethal aid, while the US president has prolonged anti-Russian sanctions introduced a year ago in connection with the Ukraine crisis.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

US plots are desgned by very incompetent bureaucrats and venal politicians. Lethal aid provided by the US to Syrian rebels has resulted into arming the Islamic State. So in this case it will result into arming the Novorossian army. For the good cause this time!

The world is on fire: Who cares! It’s #TheDress color that matters | Global politics | Scoop.it
Is it black and blue? Is it white and gold? What color is it? The Western media has been fixated on these questions this past week – questions that have dominated TV news bulletins, newspaper headlines, and news websites.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

Perhaps their trivia obsession reflects the fact that they cannot speak of anything serious because almost all of it falls into the censoring radar.

Russia and Egypt have agreed to hold a joint naval drill in the Mediterranean and to carry out joint anti-terrorist exercises, Russia’s Defense Ministry said in a statement following talks between ministers of the two countries.

Fort Russ: Nemtsov on Wikileaks: "Only a crisis could help topple Putin" (video) | Global politics | Scoop.it
Enrique Ferro's insight:

However, it is unclear if the State Department understood that Nemtsov was unelectable, as he had admitted in his wiretaps: "I am from the nineties - it's like a sentence", when Nemtsov was #3 in the Yelsyn governmnet as a Vice Prime Minister. It is quite possible that Nemtsov realized that he could make more money working for the US interests, then in Russian politics, and he has a 90 million ruble apartment near the Kremlin to show for it.

Fort Russ: Implementation of Minsk Agreements a condition for IMF credits--Lagarde | Global politics | Scoop.it
Enrique Ferro's insight:

I think everybody is fed up with the failed and incompetent Kiev junta, which keeps breathing only thanks to the US stubbornness in supporting a highly destabilized and destabilizing regime in the area, which plays well the US anti-Russian agenda. How they missed RT: Here comes the Guardian's spring offensive

How they missed RT: Here comes the Guardian's spring offensive | Global politics | Scoop.it
The Guardian's RT section must have been feeling lonely. After a flurry of “hit-pieces” against the Russian state broadcaster between mid-November and orthodox Christmas, the barrage suddenly paused.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

It is a disgrace that a newspaper such as The Guardian is turning into just one more media with no journalistic ethics, and even no journalism tout court. Brian made me happy quoting their exceptional piece of "journalism" about the fact of Nemtsov being alive in the morning and dead in the night! But I don't understand yet how come the Kremlin to appear as an ingredient in the soup. Perhaps because it was in the nearby? So was that their Nietschean interpretation of a no-fact?!? In that case what is The Guardian worth for, if it is unable to report facts, but only speculate with their post-modernist interpretation? Maybe they should have quoted Baudrillard.
