OpEdNews Article: Article: Netanyahu's "Mr Iran" routine is for the home crowd

OpEdNews Article: Article: Netanyahu's "Mr Iran" routine is for the home crowd | Global politics | Scoop.it
Why is Netanyahu acting like a bull in a diplomatic china shop, and doing so at the cost of imperiling relations with the US, when his own advisers say there is no obvious Iranian threat and a deal is unlikely? Scaremongering about Iran has proved a winning formula for Netanyahu, who looks about to secure a third consecutive term as prime minister at next month's general election.

Making Sense Of Obama's Foreign Policy By Eric Zuesse

Making Sense Of Obama's Foreign Policy By Eric Zuesse | Global politics | Scoop.it
Enrique Ferro's insight:

Ghadafi made a fateful mistake, although imposed by the circumstances. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, he felt so scared that he sought protection in the West and began to seek Western friendship, even to hystrionic degrees. But at the same time he didn't renounce to his Pan-African dreams of sovereignty, influence, and independence. He didn't realize that his rapprochement to the West implied absolute submission, like the petrostates in the Gulf, or nothing at all. He didn't realize that he was alone, and he wouldn't imagine, after the Iraqi experience, where a Western friend but independent-minded ruler had made the same mistake and had ended hanged, that his fate would be similar. Obama, like his predecessors, was seeking the destruction of all regimes which wouldn't conform to Washington's diktat. Everywhere, also in Latin America. Russia, like China, proved to big a prey. After his Syrian failed "red line", he understood that he had to put in motion his machine to dispose of the Russian rise. China should be taking note, a thing that Ghadafi didn't or couldn't do.

Killing Of Boris Nemtso Has Relevance For World Politics By Dr. Vivek Kumar Srivastava

Killing Of Boris Nemtso Has Relevance For World Politics By Dr. Vivek Kumar Srivastava | Global politics | Scoop.it
Enrique Ferro's insight:

This killing looks very much like a sacrificial victim. The US came head on in its bullying against Russia, and it was losing a lot of pawns: The Kiev Junta was in a losing position against the Donbass forces, European leaders such as Hollande and Merkel were seeking a modus vivendi with Putin leaving aside Obama, and other nations like Hungary, Greece, Cyprus were breaking loose. And Russia was scoring points in the rest of the world, especially the BRICS. But of course the US adventure in Ukraine was a failure, the regime they established is becoming an open dictatorship, where journalists are persecuted and critics imprisoned. As I type this the Rada is discussing a bill which would allow, if passed, jail terms till three years of people criticising the government down to the local level! And I wonder how the Western democracies are going to sell this... So within this framework, the murder of a failed and discredited politician such as Nemtsov and his sanctification as a martyr may be designed to revive a moribund Russian "opposition" and fragilize the President (who enjoyed over 80% of approval rating). The US may be seeking a Russian Maidan, even if it knows it is highly unlikely, so now it is attempting to create confusion and destabilisation. The US has nothing to lose, and it has engaged into an open war against Russia, and as its political tactics are in a shambles, they will use force, even as usually disproportionate force, without any scruple, to unleash chaos in Russia, as every country they have targeted for "regime change" (Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Ukraine, and now Syria). As a collateral damage, Western Europe will still suffer more democratic degradation and economic recession.

Global politics | Scoop.it
Enrique Ferro's insight:

OpEdNews Article: Article: Showdown in Athens | Global politics | Scoop.it
Varoufakis either doesn't understand what he signed or thinks he can implement his own plan without too much interference from the Eurogroup. Either way, there's probably going to be a confrontation given the vast disparity in the way the agreement is being interpreted. He will not have a four-month grace period to experiment with his pro-growth, anti-austerity economic policies. He'll be expected to toe the line from Day 1.

Ukraine Prepares For An Attack Against Russia By Eric Zuesse

Ukraine Prepares For An Attack Against Russia By Eric Zuesse | Global politics | Scoop.it
Enrique Ferro's insight:

Why Odessa? The Junta may not be mulling to attack Russia proper, but Transnistria, in a repetition of Saakashvili's attack on South Ossetia. Annihilate the Russian population and the Russian peacekeeping force, perhaps in alliance with Moldova. And like in Georgia in 2008, the Russian counterattack would be headlined in the West as a Russian aggression and facilitate a likely NATO intervention and/or basing in Ukraine. Russia should be better advised to staff well its defence in Transnistria in order to deter any attack.

Over 100 Bosnians to be deported from the US over 90s war crimes – report

Over 100 Bosnians to be deported from the US over 90s war crimes – report | Global politics | Scoop.it
US authorities reportedly plan to deport at least 150 Bosnians suspected of committing atrocities during the Bosnian War of 1992-95. Some are accused of participating in the mass executions in Srebrenica in 1995.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

The US immigration officials say a total of 64 Balkan immigrants with alleged ties to war crimes have been either expelled or fled from the country while under investigation.

The investigations of outdated war crimes are enormously complicated, while funding for the war crimes center at the immigration agency has been cut recently.

“Officials say they do not have enough funding to chase every lead,” the NYT said.
