Greece pushes for ‘socially just’ agreement by week’s end

Greece pushes for ‘socially just’ agreement by week’s end | Global politics | Scoop.it
Greece has submitted its ideas for a socially just and economically viable agreement with its creditors, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said, stressing that negotiations on debt restructuring will be fast and will conclude by the week’s end.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

Juncker insults the intelligence of everybody by saying that the direct vote of the Greek people is irrelevant! The unelected EU leaders should refrain from disparaging the democratic preocedures, as they only show their arrogance and lack of respect.

Fort Russ: Ukrainian economy after a year of "reforms": Banana republic without bananas

Fort Russ: Ukrainian economy after a year of "reforms": Banana republic without bananas | Global politics | Scoop.it
Enrique Ferro's insight:

Therefore, according to the original novel, a classic banana republic does not actually have real sovereignty, elections, mass media, politics – all of this is just a show for the natives, orchestrated by the greedy shareholders of the monstrous neocolonial corporations.

Why do banana republics exist? Why, in the real world, the majority of countries have been "bananized" to some extent, and a minority are "first world countries" - where the puppeteers are based and where the benefits of this system concentrate?

EU Commission president heckled over Greek referendum ‘circus’ comments

EU Commission president heckled over Greek referendum ‘circus’ comments | Global politics | Scoop.it
President of the EU Commission Jean-Claude Juncker has been heckled by eurosceptic MEPs at the parliament in Strasbourg, as he spoke on the current Greek crisis calling the recent referendum a “circus” and the people’s vote “irrelevant.”
Enrique Ferro's insight:

The arrogance of the apparatchiks is outrageous! How come an unelected top official ridiculizes the greatest example of democracy, a referendum as the developed form of direct democracy? This shows that the people leading the EU nowadays suffer a grave "democracy deficit", particularly after denying the Europeans the referendum for the current "European constitution"...

Fort Russ: Witch-hunts, Ukrainian style: Five separatism hot spots and traitors within the SBU

Fort Russ: Witch-hunts, Ukrainian style: Five separatism hot spots and traitors within the SBU | Global politics | Scoop.it
Enrique Ferro's insight:

So the purge seems to be mainly about who gets to profit off the illegal trade between Ukraine proper and the national republics. The official bans and blockades in all likelihood are only intended to force the legitimate trade and business to go underground in order to have to pay protection money to the SBU or the UAF. Because it is really telling that the first people to get the axe are precisely the ones who issue the Zone B permits.

Fort Russ: Three Scenarios for the Donbass

Fort Russ: Three Scenarios for the Donbass | Global politics | Scoop.it
Enrique Ferro's insight:

Ukraine in 1991 had colossal resources which were squandered in the most incompetent fashion, which were stolen after the independence. This shows how Ukraine's leaders view its sovereignty. Ordinary people haven't gained anything out of independence other than impoverishment, depopulation, and aggressive nationalism.

Goldman Sachs-Supported Solar Company Uses Prison Labor to Make Panels

Goldman Sachs-Supported Solar Company Uses Prison Labor to Make Panels | Global politics | Scoop.it
Relying on cheap labor is nothing new for Suniva, the third-largest producer of solar modules in the U.S., which was using factories in Asia until 18 months ago to keep costs down. Signing a contract with UNICOR has enabled them to transfer their operations. “By making panels in the U.S., Suniva has been able to capture lucrative federal contracts, avoid U.S. government tariffs on Chinese-made panels, and appeal to private sector customers who want American-made products,” said Reuters.
