Iraq Is Dead Set Against a Saudi Invasion of Syria

Iraq Is Dead Set Against a Saudi Invasion of Syria | Global politics | Scoop.it
With Saudi officials continuing to talk up the idea of sending special forces, and potentially a full contingent of ground troops, into Syria to fight, they are getting their first public push-back, as Iraqi PM Hayder Abadi warns the move would be a “dangerous escalation” of the war.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

Bahrain refuted the news it would join the Saudis in Syria. It is normal, because the House of Khalifa, even though they are tributary to the House of Saud, they are scared to death of their own population, which happens to be Shiite to the 80%, and are fed up of the ruling masters. So they prefer to keep aloof. As for Iraq, a Saudi intervention in Syria is untolerable, so the danger of a general war in the area is real. I doubt the US would encourage such madness, and lose more allies.

Saudi Arabia Intervening in the Syrian Civil War Would Risk Russian Wrath

Saudi Arabia Intervening in the Syrian Civil War Would Risk Russian Wrath | Global politics | Scoop.it
The suggestion by Saudi Arabia that it send ground troops to Syria might mean the limited deployment of Saudi special forces alongside their US counterpart or a more ambitious intervention, probably in combination with the Turkish army.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

Neither Erdogan pasha nor the Saudi princes are Julius Cesar. If they cast so recklessly the dice, they will be smashed to smithereens, and NATO will look aside. And both Houses of Saud and of Erdogan might fall. Most of the world would rejoice.

There's A Special Place at The Hague for Madeleine Albright

There's A Special Place at The Hague for Madeleine Albright | Global politics | Scoop.it
Former U.S. Secretary of State under Bill Clinton Madeleine Albright thinks there is “a special place in hell” for young women if they don’t vote for Hillary Clinton.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

The Serbians saved her from the Nazis, but in 1999 she was a ruthless warmonger against them, even on the basis of falsified war propaganda. Oh yea, she is a monster.

Carl Osgood

There is a character in Dante's Inferno who is so evil that his soul is already in hell
even though his body, now inhabited by a demon, still walks the earth. Perhaps this
explains Madeleine Albright, too.

Quicklink: It's YUGE! Bernie Sanders Won the Women's Vote Tonight - Quicklink:
Bernie not only won 83% of the under 30 voters, 66% of the 30-44 voters, and other big categories of voters, but he won 55% of the women’s vote. Despite growingly desperate pleas from HRC surrogates in the past few days, women’s votes aren’t automatic or to be taken for granted. They need to be earned. He also won 72% of the independent vote, an important voter demographic for the general election.

Article: How Bernie Can Pay For His Ambitious Agenda? Slash the Military

Article: How Bernie Can Pay For His Ambitious Agenda? Slash the Military | Global politics | Scoop.it
Article: How Bernie Can Pay For His Ambitious Agenda? Slash the Military - The Sanders campaign hasn't issued a detailed plan explaining how President Sanders would cover the costs of free college tuition and Medicare for All. Maybe they're worried about getting attacked as weak on national security by the hawkish Secretary Clinton and, in the general election, by the Republican nominee (probably Trump or Cruz).
Enrique Ferro's insight:

Hillary Clinton's campaign, already reeking of desperation, is turning ugly. Bill Clinton, of all people, accused Bernie of lying, and his supporters of sexism. Clinton surrogate Madeleine Albright called female Sanders supporters traitors to their genders. The once-respected Gloria Steinem called them sluts, implying they were hanging out at Bernie's big rallies to get laid by hunky Bernie bros.

A Syrian Breakthrough

A Syrian Breakthrough | Global politics | Scoop.it
The Russians and their Syrian allies have cut the main supply line of the rebels to the north of Aleppo, the Azaz corridor. In our last report, we wrote about the Azaz corridor:
Enrique Ferro's insight:

Supply the rebels via Hatay? Too late, Alepo will be liberated before. As for Obama's cautious "neutrality", I would say it is rather forced. He isn't a peacemaker, he is engaged in more wars than any POTUS before. But in Syria he lost the nerve because Russia is too determined and he knows Russia will face any eventuality in order to prevent the takfiri takeover of Damascus. For him to increase the pressure is too dangerous, and his generals aren't enthusiastic at all. They all prefer acrobatics in Eastern Europe, but are preparing the withdrawal from the Middle East. Too unpredictable, too many madmen (there is no short supply in the US, but they are homebred).
Ah, and don't forget that another richest man in the world was once Fidel Castro too!

What Russian Orthodoxy Wants From Pope Francis

What Russian Orthodoxy Wants From Pope Francis | Global politics | Scoop.it
Although the Patriarchate of Constantinople holds a place of honor among the fourteen canonical Orthodox Churches, it is the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC), the world’s largest, that has emerged as the leading spokesman for Orthodox Christians.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

For all my sympathy to the Russian Church, I don't think modernisation without secularization is viable. It never worked before, and the Church of Rome has understood it, and shown the Church can flourish as separate from the state, in a more pure state... The Russian Church itself failed under the tsars to the enterprise of modernization, so has the Greek Church in Greece, as it is rather a burden than a force of progress. As for other religions, well, we see how Islam survives in a time warp and blocks any kind of progress, even violently when an elite attempts to modernize the country (see Syria, Libya...). Iran as a Persian and Shiite country, with an enlightened tradition, is an exception, but it would develop more resolutely if it became a secular state.

Hillary Is the Candidate of the War Machine

Hillary Is the Candidate of the War Machine | Global politics | Scoop.it
There's no doubt that Hillary is the candidate of Wall Street. Even more dangerous, though, is that she is the candidate of the military-industrial complex. The idea that she is bad on the corporate issues but good on national security has it wrong. Her so-called foreign policy "experience" has been to support every war demanded by the US deep security state run by the military and the CIA.

Russia Has Destroyed the CIA's Arms Smuggling Operation in Syria

Russia Has Destroyed the CIA's Arms Smuggling Operation in Syria | Global politics | Scoop.it
Let's cut to the chase: The closing of the Azaz corridor, a major supply artery for the "moderate rebels" in Syria, should be viewed as a crippling military defeat for the United States. As analysts have pointed out, US Secretary of State John Kerry repeatedly implored Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to keep the Azaz corridor open.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

The New York Times now explains why Kerry was so anxious:

Mr. Kerry enters the negotiations with very little leverage: The Russians have cut off many of the pathways the C.I.A. has been using for a not-very-secret effort to arm rebel groups, according to several current and former officials.

Quicklink: Enacting Sanders Agenda Would Catapult Economy, Shatter Inequality - Quicklink:
With so many bold proposals, what might a Bernie Sanders presidency do to the national economy? It turns out, great things. In fact, according to the economist who performed the first independent, comprehensive analysis of the candidate's economic agenda, a Sanders win could usher in a modern-day 'New Deal,' under which Americans would see incomes rise, job markets grow, and an overall budget surplus by his second term.

Quicklink: Bacteria see the world like a single-cell eyeball - UPI.com - Quicklink:
A team of scientists from England and Germany have shown that slime-forming cyanobacteria see the world much like we do -- with eyes.Mullineaux and his colleagues looked at how cyanobacteria process and respond to light. Cyanobacteria are a type of algae-like bacteria that form thin layers of green slime on seaside rocks.According to the new research, published in the journal eLife, the bodies of bacterium cells double as a lens -- the world's smallest camera lens. As light passes through the cell body, it is refracted onto a point on the opposite side of the cell.

Article: Is Clinton Bought By Wall Street? There Is A Test For That - Clinton promises that the money will not influence her if she takes office, but voters are understandably skeptical. Voters have been betrayed again and again by people who have become known as 'corporate Democrats.' She is going to have to make it clear that she wants Wall Street influence over our government stopped and reversed, and she must join the front lines of the fight to stop it--or voters won't believe her.

Diana Johnstone – Episode 30

Diana Johnstone – Episode 30 | Global politics | Scoop.it
This week Eric sits down with journalist Diana Johnstone, author of the new book Queen of Chaos: The Misadventures of Hillary Clinton available from CounterPunch Books. Eric and Diana discuss the myriad ways in which Hiillary Clinton has made herself into the embodiment of the military-industrial complex and the Empire, including her unabashed warmongering, shameless love affairs with Saudi Arabia and Israel, and continued belligerence toward Russia. Johnstone argues that Clinton represents an imminent threat to not just the United States, but the entire world, and that her worldview is as insidious as it is incompatible with peace. The conversation touches on Yugoslavia, Libya, and Honduras in order to illustrate Clinton’s cynicism, pathological lying, and complete disregard for human suffering. All this and much more in this wide-ranging interview.
