Enacting Sanders Agenda Would Catapult Economy, Shatter Inequality

Enacting Sanders Agenda Would Catapult Economy, Shatter Inequality | Global politics | Scoop.it
Quicklink: Enacting Sanders Agenda Would Catapult Economy, Shatter Inequality - Quicklink:
With so many bold proposals, what might a Bernie Sanders presidency do to the national economy? It turns out, great things. In fact, according to the economist who performed the first independent, comprehensive analysis of the candidate's economic agenda, a Sanders win could usher in a modern-day 'New Deal,' under which Americans would see incomes rise, job markets grow, and an overall budget surplus by his second term.

Quicklink: Bacteria see the world like a single-cell eyeball - UPI.com - Quicklink:
A team of scientists from England and Germany have shown that slime-forming cyanobacteria see the world much like we do -- with eyes.Mullineaux and his colleagues looked at how cyanobacteria process and respond to light. Cyanobacteria are a type of algae-like bacteria that form thin layers of green slime on seaside rocks.According to the new research, published in the journal eLife, the bodies of bacterium cells double as a lens -- the world's smallest camera lens. As light passes through the cell body, it is refracted onto a point on the opposite side of the cell.

Article: Is Clinton Bought By Wall Street? There Is A Test For That | Global politics | Scoop.it
Article: Is Clinton Bought By Wall Street? There Is A Test For That - Clinton promises that the money will not influence her if she takes office, but voters are understandably skeptical. Voters have been betrayed again and again by people who have become known as 'corporate Democrats.' She is going to have to make it clear that she wants Wall Street influence over our government stopped and reversed, and she must join the front lines of the fight to stop it--or voters won't believe her.

Diana Johnstone – Episode 30

Diana Johnstone – Episode 30 | Global politics | Scoop.it
This week Eric sits down with journalist Diana Johnstone, author of the new book Queen of Chaos: The Misadventures of Hillary Clinton available from CounterPunch Books. Eric and Diana discuss the myriad ways in which Hiillary Clinton has made herself into the embodiment of the military-industrial complex and the Empire, including her unabashed warmongering, shameless love affairs with Saudi Arabia and Israel, and continued belligerence toward Russia. Johnstone argues that Clinton represents an imminent threat to not just the United States, but the entire world, and that her worldview is as insidious as it is incompatible with peace. The conversation touches on Yugoslavia, Libya, and Honduras in order to illustrate Clinton’s cynicism, pathological lying, and complete disregard for human suffering. All this and much more in this wide-ranging interview.

Will There Be an End to Saudi and Turkish Provocations in Syria? | New Eastern Outlook

Will There Be an End to Saudi and Turkish Provocations in Syria? | New Eastern Outlook | Global politics | Scoop.it
It’s all started with the Arab version of CNN releasing information that Saudi Arabia has begun preparations for the invasion of Syria, to achieve the “utter and complete destruction of ISIL”. It was said that a 150,000 strong…
Enrique Ferro's insight:

Turkish long-range artillery units have been shelling mountainous areas in Latakia. Near the fighting in Aleppo, Turkey is pulling together its armored forces to create a sort of armored fist that should overwhelm opposing forces. Turkey has been redeploying its heavy units from the border with Greece to the border areas with Syria.

But it’s clear that Moscow has finally tired of all the “tricks” that Arabs, Turkey and NATO have been playing. On February 8, at 5 AM in the morning, Russia’s Southern Military District was raised on alert to check the readiness of its troops for combat. Special attention was paid to the readiness of airborne troops and military transport aircraft, the Black Sea Fleet and the Caspian Flotilla, in accordance with the decision of Russia’s Supreme Commander. Russian Minister of Defence Sergey Shoygu supervised the training of Fourth Army’s air force and air defense units personally The minister said that the inspection was required to evaluate the readiness of the Southern Military District to respond to any sort of crisis and check the readiness of aviation and air defense forces to repel enemy air attacks and protect important Russia’s military and government facilities.

This was a clear signal to all those not willing to cease provocations and eager to embark on a military adventure in Syria. It is a signal that Russia has enough forces and resources to repel any aggressors. It’s clear that those forces should think twice before making any sort of provocation in vain hopes that the US will be protecting them.

'Not Your Firewall': Minority Voters Refuse To Be Token in Clinton Strategy Map

'Not Your Firewall': Minority Voters Refuse To Be Token in Clinton Strategy Map | Global politics | Scoop.it
Hillary Clinton's allegedly formidable advantage among minority voters in South Carolina, Nevada, and elsewhere is being questioned—and tested—as people of color are increasingly coming forth to reject being treated as a political "firewall" for her campaign.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

The release of the memo spurred wide rebuke from voters, including New York Daily Newscolumnist and Black Lives Matter activist Shaun King, who wrote online: "Hey Black & Latino voters, Did YOU get the Hillary memo asking you to save her campaign?"

King, who openly supports Sanders, has previously said that he "fundamentally reject[s]" the notion of an African American firewall and finds it "insulting on its face."

As the Huffington Post pointed out, others swiftly followed suit, specifically highlighting the former secretary of state's support of the 1994 crime bill passed during husband Bill Clinton's presidency.

Article: How Bernie Can Pay For His Ambitious Agenda? Slash the Military

Article: How Bernie Can Pay For His Ambitious Agenda? Slash the Military | Global politics | Scoop.it
Article: How Bernie Can Pay For His Ambitious Agenda? Slash the Military - The Sanders campaign hasn't issued a detailed plan explaining how President Sanders would cover the costs of free college tuition and Medicare for All. Maybe they're worried about getting attacked as weak on national security by the hawkish Secretary Clinton and, in the general election, by the Republican nominee (probably Trump or Cruz).
Enrique Ferro's insight:

Hillary Clinton's campaign, already reeking of desperation, is turning ugly. Bill Clinton, of all people, accused Bernie of lying, and his supporters of sexism. Clinton surrogate Madeleine Albright called female Sanders supporters traitors to their genders. The once-respected Gloria Steinem called them sluts, implying they were hanging out at Bernie's big rallies to get laid by hunky Bernie bros.

Sanders Win Reveals Deep Divide Between Voters and Democratic Party Leaders

Sanders Win Reveals Deep Divide Between Voters and Democratic Party Leaders | Global politics | Scoop.it
Arnie Arnesen, longtime radio and TV host in New Hampshire, discusses the results of Tuesday's primary.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

First of all, let's also remember that every newspaper in the state, basically, major newspaper, endorsed Hillary Clinton. Every major elected official endorsed Hillary Clinton. This is an earthshaking moment. It basically sends the message that the establishment is out of touch, that the leaders are out of touch, that there is a sense of frustration, that people feel not only that they're not being heard, Amy, but that the idea of incremental change doesn't fix it anymore.

And Bernie's message of campaign finance reform is not actually the term "campaign finance reform." You know what it is? It's code for Wall Street. That is the most important thing you need to know. That's what that's about. Since the economic meltdown of 2008, Americans are angry.

How Bernie Sanders' Grassroots Fundraising Machine Is Defying the 2016 ''Billionaire Primary''

How Bernie Sanders' Grassroots Fundraising Machine Is Defying the 2016 ''Billionaire Primary'' | Global politics | Scoop.it
Bernie Sanders' presidential campaign is raking in millions of individual small-dollar contributions.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

According to the Center for Responsive Politics, nearly $100 million cascaded into presidential super PACs in the last six months of 2015. FEC records show 29 individuals or groups gave $1 million or more, with those contributions tending to be concentrated among the wealthiest contributors. The largest donation in that timeframe came from billionaire George Soros, who shelled out $6 million to Clinton's Priorities USA. It's still $4 million less than the largest contribution this cycle, a $10 million torrent from billionaire Hank Greenberg to Jeb Bush's super PAC, Right to Rise USA.

New Hampshire: Populist Uprising

New Hampshire: Populist Uprising | Global politics | Scoop.it
“We have sent a message that will resound from Wall Street to Washington,“ presidential candidate Bernie Sanders exulted last night, after drubbing Hillary Clinton in the New Hampshire primary. On the Republican side, Donald Trump won convincingly as predicted.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

For Clinton, a reset is needed. Rumors have already started about staffing changes. The campaign is tempted to roll out its opposition research operation and go negative on Sanders. David Brock, head of one of Hillary’s Super PACs, has already promised as much in the press. Sidney Blumenthal and Lanny Davis won’t be far behind. Bill Clinton has already done one of his destructive South Carolina eruptions.

Going negative is likely to be counterproductive. It will only reinforce the sense that Clinton is part of an old politics that people can’t stomach.

Enrique Ferro's insight:

Director, Rami Jarrah displays a mastery of the dark art of propaganda.  He carefully insinuates that Russia is bombing Aleppo, but then qualifies by stating “Russia sending war planes, overhead to this AREA“, which is not tantamount to bombing. He gives no specifics, shows no planes, offers no proof which is normal practice for these Manhattan trained and produced manipulators of opinion. He asks loaded questions that demand a simple and one- way- street reply.  He fails, yet again, to even mention the maiming and mutilation of civilians by the Al Nusra “moderate rebel” Hell Cannon.

This is not journalism, this is not objective research, this is not investigative analysis, this is propaganda at its most insidious.

All the same Hillary is determined to steal the election, as she loses but she wins. So she overrun Sanders after losing Iowa thanks to an improbable 6:0 coin tossing, and now she will get more delegates in NH in spite of Sanders' landslide thanks to the voter-scornful superdelegate mechanism.
