M of A - Why Kerry Blames The Opposition For The Continuing Bombing In Syria

Enrique Ferro's insight:

After sabotaging the talks the Saudis came out with an offer to send ground troops to invade Syria if the U.S. would take the command of such an operation. No one is taking that offer seriously. The Saudi troops who try to invade Yemen get beaten to pulp. The Saudis themselves say they had to closed 500 school and evacuate 12 villages with 7,000 people in Saudi Arabia because the Yemenis are now invading them. Their army has lots of expensive toys but is clearly not able to put them to use. The offer to send troops is simply to goad the U.S. into starting a war with Russia.

Enrique Ferro's insight:

If America is sick of war, Hillary is sick of war (except for the new one). If America is angry at banks, Hillary is angry at banks (except when she votes to bail them out). If Americans are beginning to question vaccine safety, Hillary questions their safety. If trendies are afraid of getting sick and there is a temporary false consensus that vaccines work, Hillary is pro vaccine. The list goes on and on.

Candid Kerry: US Won't Fight Russia -- Syrian Rebels Are Toast

Candid Kerry: US Won't Fight Russia -- Syrian Rebels Are Toast | Global politics | Scoop.it
It looks like Lavrov's straight talk is beginning to rub off on his American counterpart.During a blunt exchange on the sidelines of this week’s Syria donor conference in London, the Middle East Eye reports that John Kerry slammed the Syrian opposition for bailing on peace negotiations and paving the way for a joint offensive by the SAA and Russia.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

But here it is, straight from the mouth of the U.S. Secretary of State: The U.S. won't go to war with Russia over Syria. And in the coming months, the rebels will be "decimated."

Honesty is the best policy? Maybe when there's nothing left to lose.

'Mickey Mouse and Coca-Cola Revolution': The Roots of Libya’s Chaos

'Mickey Mouse and Coca-Cola Revolution': The Roots of Libya’s Chaos | Global politics | Scoop.it
As Libya votes to form a national unity government, activist Sukant Chandan speaks to Radio Sputnik’s Loud & Clear about how the NATO bombing – and Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton – have plunged the country into chaos.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

Without the aid of NATO airstrikes, Libya’s government would have held onto power. It was only with the direct intervention of the West that rebel forces were able to overthrow Gaddafi, violently dragging his body through the street – a sight US presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton joked about on live television.

"Hillary Clinton is the most hawkish, and frankly…[the joking] betrays her totally sociopathic side to her," Chandan says, adding that, "It was Hillary Clinton who ensured that the death squads in Libya have a leading role to play in the junta in Tripoli."

Hillary Clinton Turns Stand-Up Comic: "I’m a Progressive Who Gets Things Done"

Hillary Clinton Turns Stand-Up Comic: "I’m a Progressive Who Gets Things Done" | Global politics | Scoop.it
In her speech claiming victory after the Iowa caucuses, Hillary Clinton proclaimed herself “a progressive who gets things done.” I had to laugh. And it wasn’t just because former President Bill Clinton – the centrist Triangulator-in-Chief – was standing behind her, beaming and clapping. "Like her husband, Hillary can come off as either centrist or progressive depending on the audience. And depending on the season – left-leaning during primary election season, and corporate centrist in office."
Enrique Ferro's insight:

A quick review of Hillary Clinton’s record shows that much of what she gets done is anti-progressive (not unlike President Clinton in the 1990s). For example:

Enrique Ferro's insight:

The West (or call it NATO, or anything you like – we all know what I mean!) has, in the most cynical manner, destabilized and destroyed the entire Middle East. As it has in virtually all the continents of the world, it ruined tremendous cultures, plundered all it could put its hands on, turned proud people into slaves. Libya and Iraq are no more! I can testify, as I work all over the Middle East.

After entering Aleppo, the Syrian army may set its sights on Raqqa

After entering Aleppo, the Syrian army may set its sights on Raqqa | Global politics | Scoop.it
After losing up to 60,000 soldiers in five years of fighting, the Syrian army has suddenly scored its greatest victory of the war – smashing its way through Jabhat al-Nusra and the other rebel forces around Aleppo and effectively sealing its fate as Russia provided air strike operations outside the city.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

For many months, the regime’s own military authorities – along with tens of thousands of civilians, including many Christians – were trapped inside Aleppo and at the mercy of shelling and mortar fire by the Nusra fighters, who surrounded them until the army opened the main highway south.

During this period, the only way to Aleppo was by plane because the army held a tiny peninsula of territory going to the airport – I flew out one night on a military aircraft crowded with wounded Syrian troops.

Slavoj Žižek: The Cologne attacks were an obscene version of carnival

Slavoj Žižek: The Cologne attacks were an obscene version of carnival | Global politics | Scoop.it
But is, from a critical standpoint, religion not always a kind of clothing, rather than the heart of the matter? Is religion not in its very core a “form of subjectivisation” of people’s predicament? And does this not imply that a clothing IS in some sense the “heart of the matter”, the way individuals experience their situation – there is no way for them to step back and see somehow from outside how things “really are”…
Enrique Ferro's insight:

This is why the naive attempts to enlighten immigrants (explaining to them that our sexual mores are different, that a woman who walks in public in a mini skirt and smiles does not thereby signal sexual invitation, etc.) are examples of breath-taking stupidity – they know this and that's why they are doing it. They are well aware that what they are doing is foreign to our predominant culture, but they are doing it precisely to wound our sensitivities. The task is to change this stance of envy and revengeful aggressiveness, not to teach them what they already know very well.

The difficult lesson of this entire affair is thus that it is not enough to simply give voice to the underdogs the way they are: in order to enact actual emancipation, they have to be educated(by others and by themselves) into their freedom.

China will increasingly be drawn into this new architecture as well, since it fears that its "One Belt, One Road" project, on which its economic future largely is staked, is as vulnerable to Wahhabism as was Syria and Iraq. Chinese officials, I've been told, are aware that America could again use the Wahhabist tool to frustrate their new project.

Russian hands-off warning to US, Saudis, Turks amid crucial Aleppo battle

Russian hands-off warning to US, Saudis, Turks amid crucial Aleppo battle | Global politics | Scoop.it
The five-year old Syrian civil war faces its most critical moment. Saturday, Feb. 6, a combined force of Syrian army and Hizballah troops and an Iraqi Shiite militia under Iranian officers, were led by Russian air and Spetsnaz (special forces) officers into pressing forward to encircle 35,000 rebels trapped in Aleppo, the country’s largest city. The biggest refugee exodus of the Syrian war is blocked at the Turkish border. Moscow hints it will fight off any US, Saudi or Turkish interference.
Enrique Ferro's insight:

Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem put it more crudely: “Any foreign troops entering Syria would return home in wooden coffins.”
He advised armed opposition groups fighting the government offensive in the area to lay down their weapons because, he said, “government advances signal that the five-year-old Syria war is nearing its end.”
