Let the Peace Games Begin

Let the Peace Games Begin | Global politics | Scoop.it
The contrast between the two games couldn’t be starker. On the one hand, the world’s most technologically advanced militaries and weapons systems are deployed to practice combat. On the other, despite tremendous nationalist pressure to beat the other, athletes from North Korea and South Korea competed with each other peacefully, even gracefully, in the 2016 Olympic games.

Why Sanders Supporters Won’t Back Clinton: The Gaddafi Emails

Why Sanders Supporters Won’t Back Clinton: The Gaddafi Emails | Global politics | Scoop.it
Bernie Sanders supporters are loathe to support Hillary Clinton for a variety of reasons. Earlier stories on Inquisitr outlined several wide-sweeping reasons
Enrique Ferro's insight:
Hillary Clinton appears to believe that war makes good business. Hillary called Iraq a business opportunity, presumably for oil. For Libya, it was gold, power, and maintaining the Western status quo. Before U.S.-led NATO forces destroyed Libya’s water irrigation systems, the United States created a narrative of Muammar Gaddafi as a brutal dictator who distributed Viagra to troops so they could rape women while snipers killed innocent children. But those stories were fabricated. The truth appears to be that Gaddafi was killed to protect France’s colonial interest in the African continent. Provoking Nuclear War by Media

Provoking Nuclear War by Media | Global politics | Scoop.it
The exoneration of a man accused of the worst of crimes, genocide, made no headlines. Neither the BBC nor CNN covered it. The Guardian allowed a brief commentary. Such a rare official admissio
Enrique Ferro's insight:
All but a fraction of America’s vaunted “precision guided” missiles hit not military but civilian targets, including the news studios of Radio Television Serbia in Belgrade. Sixteen people were killed, including cameramen, producers and a make-up artist. Blair described the dead, profanely, as part of Serbia’s “command and control”. In 2008, the prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, Carla Del Ponte, revealed that she had been pressured not to investigate Nato’s crimes. This was the model for Washington’s subsequent invasions of Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and, by stealth, Syria. All qualify as “paramount crimes” under the Nuremberg standard; all depended on media propaganda.

Such a Long Silence on Yemen

Such a Long Silence on Yemen | Global politics | Scoop.it
Early this August, the Pentagon announced plans to sell weapons worth $1.15 billion to Saudi Arabia. The news itself was not surprising as the Arab kingdom is one of America’s biggest arms buyers, but the timing of the announcement was rather conspicuous. The Saudis had resumed heavy bombardment of Yemen after a lull as part of the peace process.

Dear Us and Dear Bernie: A Few Notes on Our Revolution

Dear Us and Dear Bernie: A Few Notes on Our Revolution | Global politics | Scoop.it
Left commentary berates mainstream media for serving up ‘too much Trump.” Fair enough, but left writers also flood us with endlessly repetitive Trump coverage.Left commentary claims that at election time an endless stream of writers overemphasize the ephemeral and ignore the serious. True, but left writers also continually repeat what people already know while offering few usable lessons for the future.

From the Destruction of Greece to Democracy in Europe | Global politics | Scoop.it
In protesting the Treaty of Versailles ending World War I, John Maynard Keynes wrote: “The policy . . . of depriving the lives of millions of human beings, of depriving a whole nation of happiness should be abhorrent and detestable — abhorrent and detestable, even if it were possible, even if it enriched ourselves, even if it did not sow the decay of the whole civilized life of Europe.”

Ankara’s Climbdown on Assad

Ankara’s Climbdown on Assad | Global politics | Scoop.it
Sharp changes in the war on Syria have impacted the policy of the Turkish government of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Initially Mr. Erdogan believed that the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad would fall precipitously. It did not. Rather than overthrow Mr. Assad, the war has placed Turkey itself in danger — a ‘failed coup’ on July 15 came alongside a renewed war against Turkey’s Kurdish population, just as Islamic State (IS) attacks in the country have raised alarm bells about Mr. Erdogan’s adventurism. An adjustment of Turkey’s policy is now on the cards.

Enrique Ferro's insight:
The Neocons’ ferocious and deranged aggressive policy managed to nullify all three Kissingerian geostrategic achievements. In a sense, it has been a fortune for humanity, a proof of the diplomatic ability of Vladimir Putin and a clear indication of the rapacious stupidity of the Clinton/Bush establishment.

Propaganda for Syrian ‘Regime Change’ | Global politics | Scoop.it
Neocons and Clintonites have launched a major campaign with the goal of direct U.S. military intervention and aggression against Syria, potentially leading to war with Iran and Russia.
Enrique Ferro's insight:
Hillary Clinton is on record criticizing the decision to not bomb Syria in late summer 2013 after the sarin gas attack outside Damascus. She has continued to promote the idea of a “no fly zone.” She is an avowed Zionist who has said she wants to take the U.S.-Israeli relationship to the “next level.”

At the federal courthouse, Ignacio Sarabia asks the magistrate judge, Jacqueline Rateau, if he can explain why he crossed the international boundary between the two countries without authorization. He has already pleaded guilty to the federal misdemeanor commonly known as “illegal entry” and is about to receive a prison sentence. On either side of him are eight men in the same predicament, all still sunburned, all in the same ripped, soiled clothes they were wearing when arrested in the Arizona desert by agents of the U.S. Border Patrol.
