The End of Leadership--at Least As We Know It!

The End of Leadership--at Least As We Know It! | Team Success : Global Leadership Coaching Tips and Free Content | Scoop.it

America is currently facing a crisis of leadership in business and in government. Yet at the same time – participation in leadership seminars and programs has never been higher. The leadership industry, with many of  its roots in America, is now a $50 billion industry.

Kellerman explains that the current state of leadership is no better understood or produced than it was 40 years ago and that followers are becoming more and more disenchanted by those who are leading them.

Though the leadership industry thrives, leadership in practice is declining in performance.

Leadership has been changing for some time, but not uniformly. It is not readily evident in education that hierarchy is a thing of the past. What this means is that we are educating children and youth in a model that theorists think is passe. No wonder we have a crisis. Practice and theory are not separate, they are fused.

Deborah Verran's comment, March 29, 2014 6:13 PM
Leadership is not just about having ability it is all about demonstrating that ability in practice i.e. standing up & accepting both responsibility & accountability

I believe happiness is intrinsic. Material possession can bring happiness, yet it is short term. Here is an interesting article backed up by science. Note it includes exercise. A great way to cope is excercise and it releases endorphines.

Meditating Your Way To More Effective Leadership

Meditating Your Way To More Effective Leadership | Team Success : Global Leadership Coaching Tips and Free Content | Scoop.it

The Drucker School of Management and Wharton Business School both offer courses in mindfulness meditation. Virginia Tech is sponsoring "contemplative practices for a technological society," a conference for engineers who integrate contemplative disciplines into their work. Google offers courses in meditation and yoga

Aetna, Merck, General Mills--the list goes on--all are exploring how meditation can help their leaders and employees agilely thrive in today's fast-paced business environment. And the benefits are widely publicized: sustained attention span, improved multi-tasking abilities, strengthened immune system, increased emotional intelligence, improved listening skills...And there is science behind such claims.

Responding to Complexity and Uncertainty: The Agile Organisation

Responding to Complexity and Uncertainty: The Agile Organisation | Team Success : Global Leadership Coaching Tips and Free Content | Scoop.it

Over the past two decades, management consultants and academics at business schools have increasingly stressed what they view as the rapidly increasing levels of complexity and uncertainty in the environment that all organisations have to respond to and many have labelled these conditions ‘ hyper-competition’ or ‘high velocity competition’. To deal with these conditions, consultants and academics have called for organisations to become ‘agile organisations’.

Caffeine: The Silent Killer of Emotional Intelligence

Caffeine: The Silent Killer of Emotional Intelligence | Team Success : Global Leadership Coaching Tips and Free Content | Scoop.it
Today's tip for increasing your emotional intelligence is the most simple and straightforward you're ever going to get. For many people, this tip has the potential to have a bigger impact upon their emotional intelligence (EQ) than any other.

Today’s tip for increasing your emotional intelligence is the most simple and straightforward you’re ever going to get. For many people, this tip has the potential to have a bigger impact upon their emotional intelligence (EQ) than any other. The catch? You have to cut down on caffeine, and as any caffeine drinker can attest, this is easier said than done.

The Good: Isn’t Really Good

Most people start drinking caffeine because it makes them feel more alert and improves their mood. Many studies suggest that caffeine actually improves cognitive task performance (memory, attention span, etc.) in the short-term. Unfortunately, these studies fail to consider the participants’ caffeine habits. New research from Johns Hopkins Medical School shows that performance increases due to caffeine intake are the result of caffeine drinkers experiencing a short-term reversal of caffeine withdrawal. By controlling for caffeine use in study participants, John Hopkins researchers found that caffeine-related performance improvement is nonexistent without caffeine withdrawal.

It is true...at the end of the day, if Leaders are to become REAL and Authentic, they will be vulnerable before others (those they serve) and will have to come to terms with their own limitations.  In fact, awareness and acceptance of who we really are provides the essential ingredients to action and achievement in the Leadership Enrichment LIFE-cycle.  Never stop learning, changing, growing and leading...mostly about yourself as a leader and about the impact you are having on others.

We Need To Redesign Our Economy To Make It Work For Profits, People, And The Planet

We Need To Redesign Our Economy To Make It Work For Profits, People, And The Planet | Team Success : Global Leadership Coaching Tips and Free Content | Scoop.it

When the richest quarter of the world’s population uses about half of our global resources--and take the liberty to produce half of the global waste--while another third live in poverty, it is clear that our economic and societal systems are failing us.

That is even before we have reached the point where our planet needs to accommodate 9 billion mostly urbanized and aging people. Add in the rapidly growing middle class in China, India, and elsewhere who also want their share, and it is easy to see that our current path is unsustainable.

Executive Coaching: Coaching and Therapy (They Are Different!) » LSC Blog -

Executive Coaching: Coaching and Therapy (They Are Different!) » LSC Blog - | Team Success : Global Leadership Coaching Tips and Free Content | Scoop.it

Do you know the main differences between executive coaching and therapy? While both focus on personal development, they each serve a separate purpose.

Therapy is often aimed at helping people with mental, behavioral, or emotional difficulties. Thus, it commonly focuses on helping people with psychological disorders, as defined by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, function normally again. Some types of therapy, like couples therapy, may not be focused on alleviating mental illness, but are still meant to treat problems. Most therapy sessions take place in an office setting.

Executive coaching, on the other hand, is geared toward people who are generally mentally stable, but aim to achieve greater life success and business success. An executive coach should not be expected to treat or diagnose a mental illness; most are not qualified to do so. Rather, an executive coach focuses on helping the client along their path to personal development by teaching them goal-setting strategies, effective communication techniques, and other methods that are applicable in most people’s lives. Executive coaching can also be conducted face-to-face, but many busy clients choose e-mail, telephone, or Skype consultations instead.
