Which Nation Has the Best 'Technik'?

Which Nation Has the Best 'Technik'? | Global Leaders | Scoop.it
Five thousand years ago, use of the wheel began to spread from Mesopotamia across Eurasia, revolutionizing transport and enabling chariot warfare.

The U.S. share of global R&D has, like its share of global GDP, fallen to around 20 percent, and since not enough of those funds are devoted to commercialization initiatives, the United States sometimes has to buy things it invented a decade ago from competitors abroad. Science and engineering have become devalued amongst American students and policy-makers.

A decade from now we may look back at China's 12th Five-Year Plan as the seminal document of the early 21st century. It pledges $1.5 trillion in government support for seven "strategic emerging industries," including alternative energy, biotechnology, next-gen IT, high-end manufacturing equipment, and advanced materials. China invented none of these fields, but outstrips all competitors in attempting to improve and deploy them at scale.

How To Win The Talent War

How To Win The Talent War | Global Leaders | Scoop.it
The formula for a successful startup is simple: create a product that people need, and hire ridiculously talented, highly motivated people to build it.

I once hired a developer who had more experience in his field than I did in mine. His resume touted roles at companies I one day hope to emulate, and his Rolodex read like a who’s who of tech startups. I was excited by the possibilities of having someone like this on our team, and I anticipated a long and rewarding career for him at our company.

No doubt he was talented--but the sad reality was that he had no genuine interest in building the company I envisioned. He stayed with us less than six months.

When hiring for roles like this at Betterment.com, the investing startup I founded two years ago, I soon learned the formula for a successful startup. It’s simple: create a product that people need, and hire ridiculously talented, highly motivated people to build it.

As I experienced then (and many times over), finding the ridiculously talented, highly motivated people is the more challenging side of this equation.

I don’t want to downplay the need for a great product--but a great product is rarely born on day one. Instead, it takes modifications, iterations, and adjustments based on user feedback. You need smart, thoughtful employees to imagine and implement these changes.

We break the pool of promising candidates into three buckets:...

What Makes A Successful Social Executive? | Business 2 Community

What Makes A Successful Social Executive? | Business 2 Community | Global Leaders | Scoop.it
The past decade has seen the emergence of the digital bazaar.

“Authentic Social Executives are open to joining the conversation; they understand the value of being approachable and available to their stakeholders,”

I think the all  members of the Top Management Team, should listen to they stakeholders especially their employees and customers.

Humility and authenticity may be buzz words but I think that traits make great leaders more than charisma.

International Adviser: Many British expats in China regret move

International Adviser: Many British expats in China regret move | Global Leaders | Scoop.it

Only one third of British expatriates who have moved to China view the move “in a positive light”, according to findings in the latest NatWest International Personal Banking quality of life index.

This is interesting but I would like to know more about the reasons why expats did not see China as a positive move. Very often if the accompaying partner is looking for a job, language barrier is the biggest obstacle with working regulations.

Here more about questions to ask before moving abroad: http://zestnzen.wordpress.com/2011/05/09/5-most-critical-questions-you-should-ask-before-moving-abroad/

What is Workplace Abuse?

What is Workplace Abuse? | Global Leaders | Scoop.it

Workplace abuse can be defined as behaviors that include public criticism, use of derogatory names, condescending tones, lack of leadership skills.

[I think this type abuse happens quite often but I don't think many companies have implemented anti-bullying policies.

Like in schools in the US they talk often about it but when it happens there is often denial, no support from the school management and most of the time when kids speak-up, adults don't act or try to minize the problem ]
