The Skills Most Leaders Don't Have

The Skills Most Leaders Don't Have | Global Leaders | Scoop.it
We've all heard about hard skills and soft skills.

In reality, there is nothing “soft” about the skills needed to relate to people well enough to lead them. True leadership involves both hard skills and harder skills.

Leadership has its own set of occupational skills, such as the ability to synthesize data; the clarity to make timely and informed decisions; the capability to define priorities and goals; and the aptitude to see situations from a wide, organizational perspective.

On the behavioral side, leadership requires an exceedingly high degree of skill in working with and for others, holding others accountable to their commitments, and marshaling others to work together while following you into the future.

from article : Leadership—Leadership is about influencing others, and if people don’t trust you, you won’t be able to influence them. Leadership and trust go hand in hand. You can’t have one without the other

Anne Egros's comment, May 20, 2:09 PM
I agree with this one : One careless act can instantaneously destroy trust that has taken years to develop, especially when the breach of trust involves a personal character failure.
AlGonzalezinfo's curator insight, May 20, 11:42 PM

Great scoop!  From the article:

Forgiving—Trust assumes the best intentions of others and looks to forgive when someone falls short of expectations. Trust knows that people aren’t perfect and that mistakes will happen, but people will generally prove themselves worthy of the trust placed in them.

Anne Egros's insight:

Would you decline a great job offer abroad because of pollution ?

AlGonzalezinfo's curator insight, May 1, 2:10 PM

From the article:

Foreigners regularly check the air quality readings put out by the U.S. Embassy and consulates on their Twitter feeds when deciding whether to go out for a run or let their children play outside.

The pollution has become even more of a hot topic since January, when the readings in Beijing went off the scale and beyond what is considered hazardous by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

At the same time, China’s state media gave unprecedented coverage to the pollution following months of growing pressure from a Chinese middle class that has become more vocal about the quality of its air.

Using social media for recruiting is now part of the head hunting and recruiting process.
