The Speed of Social Marketing | Social Media Today

The Speed of Social Marketing | Social Media Today | Global Growth Relations | Scoop.it

Keeping up with the social universe is challenging but necessary if you want to operate your marketing at unfathomable speeds.

Social marketing now drives a faster everything. In fact, social forces marketers to go faster, not the other way around. It’s for this exact reason that businesses are afraid to become a social business.

Take Uber for example. Their vision was simple in creating a service that put the power of seamless ‘right now’ transportation into the palm of our hands. How about Apple? Steve Wozniak talked about how they originally set out with a simple vision to build a personal computer. They built the first personal computer that delivered a word processor.

It turned out that the computer called for networking, which quickly grew into the need for the internet. We needed a way to see the new clusters of information created on the internet, so search engines were born. And now, social commerce is enabled. Steve says “we did not build a computer knowing all this was going to happen, we started with a simple vision.”...

Secrets and Lies and Marketing - Marketing Action Blog - Act-On | Global Growth Relations | Scoop.it

A new study by Y&R and Dr. Joel Weinberger of Adelphi University shows that consumers' unconscious desires are at odds with what we say we want.Ad firm Y&R teamed up with psychologist Dr. Joel Weinberger of Adelphi University to design a study that revealed respondents’ subconscious preferences using implicit association testing. The study, tellingly named “Secrets and Lies,” has been released and is available here.Three key findings:1. What consumers say is important is often the opposite of what truly is important to them.In the chart below “conscious preference” is what people said they held to be of value. “Unconscious preference” shows how testing determined what they actually, subconsciously, valued. These global responses came from Brazil, China, and the US...

Social Media is making SEO more personal

Social Media is making SEO more personal | Global Growth Relations | Scoop.it
The game has changed. Now, in 2013 and beyond, Social Media is playing an increasingly important role in how your blog content ranks in Search Engines. 'Social signals continue to correlate very well with better rankings' – SearchMetrics' SearchMetrics found that Google +1s, Tweets, Pinterest shares and all Facebook activity (shares, likes & comments) had a significant correlation to higher search engine placement. In fact the only non-social measure in the top 8 correlating measure was the number of backlinks. And it looks like social media signals will become increasingly important to SEO for the foreseeable future. Read More: http://www.getspokal.com/how-social-media-is-making-seo-a-better-place/#

Scientists More Certain Humans Are Heating the Planet | MIT Technology Review | Global Growth Relations | Scoop.it
The latest report from the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says that scientists are more certain than ever that humans are causing global warming, and that climate change will get worse if greenhouse gas levels continue to rise. The report is influential with policymakers because it represents the consensus of hundreds of scientists who have worked for years to draw conclusions from the scientific research on climate change. The report, the first of four IPCC reports scheduled for this year, focuses on the science of climate change. The other reports will take a closer look at the likely impacts of climate change and what can be done to minimize them.

Where to position key messages in your email marketing campaigns - Campaign Monitor

Where to position key messages in your email marketing campaigns - Campaign Monitor | Global Growth Relations | Scoop.it
Correct positioning of your key messages in your email marketing campaigns can help them get noticed and remembered. But what's the correct position?Have you ever jotted down your grocery list and driven to the store only to realize you’ve forgotten it? Have you then tried to recall the items on your list? Chances are, you remembered the first items on the list, the last items on the list, or a combination of the two. What you forgot, on the other hand, were the items in the middle. This is due to the serial position effect. To summarize, the study found that when you are presented with a piece of content, in this case a list of words, you are more likely to remember the first words (the primary effect) and last words (the recency effect)....

Understanding Goals, Strategy, Objectives And Tactics In The Age Of Social

Understanding Goals, Strategy, Objectives And Tactics In The Age Of Social | Global Growth Relations | Scoop.it

Learn about the "G'SOT" and why social media when used in marketing is nothing more than a tactic. There’s an old adage about the weather that’s gospel for mountaineers and meteorologists alike: There’s no such thing as good or bad weather. All we have is weather, and you have to be prepared for it — good and bad.Same goes for media and marketing. There’s no such thing as traditional or new media, just as there’s no such thing as traditional or social media marketing. All there is media and marketing, and both have always been and always will be in a constant state of tactical evolvement. In fact, when people talk or write about “social media marketing” being a discipline unto itself – one requiring a unique skills set and understanding to master – all they’re really talking about is the last item in what I like to call the G’SOT. And unless you understand the difference between Goals, Strategies, Objectives and Tactics (the G’SOT), you’re likely to dismiss anything else there is to say on the subject. So, for the uninitiated...

Cleaner air from tackling climate change would save millions of lives, says study

Cleaner air from tackling climate change would save millions of lives, says study | Global Growth Relations | Scoop.it
Tackling climate change would save millions of lives a year by the end of the century purely as a result of the decrease in air pollution, according to a new study. The study is published as scientists from around the globe gather in Stockholm to thrash out final details of a landmark assessment of climate science. Their final report is due to be released this Friday and will set out projections of wide-ranging impacts of global warming from droughts to floods to sea-level rise. The research suggests that the benefits of cuts to air pollution from curbing fossil-fuel use justify action alone — even without other climate impacts such as more extreme weather and sea-level rise. “It is pretty striking that you can make an argument purely on health grounds to control climate change,” says Jason West, at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, whose work was published in Nature Climate Change.
