This week on #HealthyLeadership, organizational development expert, David Hain joined me to discuss the need for organizations to support those who are being bullied as well as those who may be bulling.

The conversation of bullying lead us to the topic of how organizations may treat their employees when critical deadlines require employees to stay late or work through the weekend and how this can lead to rewarding abrasive and bullying behavior.

Is your organization falling into the bullying trap?

This post brought me to tears because my biggest inspiration was/is my mom.  I could not agree with Karin more on this post, especially reason #2, taking the long term view.

Above is a long term result of my mother's life of leadership as she craddles my first born.   She lead me from chaos to happiness.

Miss you Mami!

Thanks Karin!!!

From the post:

#2. They Take The Long View – Moms invest deeply for the long run. They know that every move won’t be perfect, but they’re going for the long-term impact. Good moms and amazing leaders see mistakes as an opportunity to grow.

This last week, Huffington Post columnist and learning expert, Angela Maiers, joined me on my podcast  to discuss why we should never consider ourselves;

“Faking it till we make it”.

Instead, we should pursue our passion in life with a clear understanding that we will be;

“Learning it while we make it”!

As Angela explained during the interview the "act of doing" enables the process of learning. Whatever action you pursue, you’ll get to do better the next time because you will be able to reflect on it.

Have you ever considered using hope and fun to help you take risks and deal with failure?

Whether we are leading a team of people, a family, or even our professional development, taking risks is almost certain.

This week, we are joined by Ellen Castro, a best selling author and international consultant who has succeeded in life by using hope to lead through risks, and having fun while failing forward.

While using hope as a tool to lead through the fear of taking risks, and fun as a way to deal with failure, may sound a bit unusual, I highly encourage our listeners to consider this model, as I think it is FAR superior than the alternative.

What do you do if your VP is in conflict with another executive and you have to manage a project with both of their teams?

This week, our show is based on a real situation I went through early in my career when an trusted advisor told me:

“Al, there are two dinosaurs throwing rocks at each other and the rocks are falling all around you”.

Research shows that:

• 85% of workers deal with some conflict at work and 27% of employees witnessed conflict morphing into personal attacks.
• 49% of conflict is caused by personality clashes and 29% due to poor leadership!

Leadership expert Kate Nasser joins us this week to discuss a number of strategies that will not only help us lead through conflict with our peers, but also help you lead through situations when the big bosses are at odds with one another.

*Inclusion is a Personal Choice

This podcast explores "invisible" diversity items that must be addressed to enable a truly inclusive organizational culture.  We tend to focus on visible signs such as gender, race, age and sexual orientation.

Inclusion programs must ensure we are not excluding others on the basis of diversity items such as:

~Personality
~Our perception
~Leadership style
~Communication style
~Work preferences/styles
~Privilege
~Culture, and other invisible types of diversity.

AlGonzalezinfo's curator insight, August 27, 2013 7:38 AM

Join us this week to explore the visible AND invisible signs of diversity.

While our tendency is to focus on what we see, addressing invisible diversity factors will help us develop more inclusive cultures.

As you will learn, we need to see diversity as more than age, race, gender, and sexual orientation.

Inclusion programs must ensure we are not excluding others on the basis of diversity items such as:

~Personality

~Perception

~Leadership style

~Communication style

~Work preferences/styles

~Privilege

~Culture, and other invisible types of diversity.

In addition, you will learn how investing in inclusion is paying significant dividends for many organizations, such as Deloitte, Ingersol Rand, and the US Government.

NO, inclusion is NOT a soft topic!

*Inclusion impacts the bottom Line!

The following actions or behaviors are NOT intended to blame others.  My intent is to accomplish two goals:

~illustrate how our actions can unintentionally cause others to feel excluded

~list these actions in hopes that those who may be behaving in these ways, can reflect upon and evaluate the quality of their leadership based on the likelihood that their actions may cause others to feel excluded

Exclusion actions or behaviors -

* Interrupting  (alone in a crowded room)

* Leaving others out

* Ridicule in private or public

* Abrasive and bullying behavior

* Making you jump because I can  (disguised as "testing your limits)
