80 years ago on December 5, 1933 the 18th Amendment was repealed by the 21st Amendment. Prohibition led to a big boom in organized crime and deaths from drinking bootleg spirits and other alcohol substitutes.

The enforcement of the 18th amendment was the Volstead Act which placed the authority to enforce the amendment and defined what legally constituted an alcoholic beverage. The 18th Amendment became law January 16,1920. This amendment enacted it into law as the National Prohibition Act of 1920.

The 18th Amendment went into effect in 1920. It prohibited the invent and sale of alcohol in America. It was a long and difficult campaign by the drys. Prohibition parties considered alcohol America's national curse. The government lost a lot of money. After the 18th amendment was taking action many people started to buy illegal liquior, which made the crime rate go up. When others thought it would decrease.

Prohibition was an amendment to the constitution that was added in 1920, but repealed in 1933. It consisted of making the transportation, sale and manufacturing of liquor or alcoholic beverages illegal.

The 18th Amendment was being made in the begining of prohibition. In this article many fought to appeal and some opposed the 18th Amendment that was now coming into place. Many did not want this amendment and others did.

The 18th Amendment was to protect families from the effects of alcohol abuse, breweries, saloons, and distilleries. All of them were  forced to close their doors after the ratification of the 18th Amendment. The 18th Amendment was also known as the Prohibition Amendment or the Dry Amendment. The Volstead Act,  allowed the states to enforce the prohibition of alcohol.

Men had to dump all their alcohol down into the sewer. People protested, drove round with their cars with posters all over to repeal the 18th Amendment. Women were showing up in groups  some carrying placards reading "We Want Beer," for the anti-Prohibition parade.

The 18th Amendment is the only Amendment to ever have been repealed. The 18th Amendment banned the manufacture, sale, and transportation of alcohol. It was ratified on January 16, 1919.  The 18th Amendment was repealed by the 21st Amendment in 1933.

When the manudacture and sale of alcohol was banned in the United States was the 18th Amendment. The  ratification of the 18th Amendment was the start of prohibation. Prohibation led crime rates to increase. The 21st Amendment to the Constitution repealed the 18th Amendment.

Many people throught that the 18th Amendment would solve social problems,reduce crime and corruption, and reduce the tax burn on prisions and poorhouses. Also to improve health and hygiene in America. The 18th amendment was ratified on January 29, 1919 by the nations push to have it.
