Hardwell Admits to Ghost Producing a Beatport Top 10 Hit

Hardwell Admits to Ghost Producing a Beatport Top 10 Hit | Ghost Producing | Scoop.it
There are a few taboo topics in our scene, one of them being “ghost-producing”. Often thrown around, there are very few instances where the accusations are founded on proof. But in this case we present to you some hard evidence.

Vincent Myers's insight:

Hardwell does not think that ghost producing is necessarily bad but he does not like it since he feel that you should come up with your own sound. He does not feel that it is negative if the dj getting the credit admits to getting help and gives some credit to the other producer.

You've heard of rap music ghostwriters, right? The guys who pen the words someone else performs, and get no credit...

Vincent Myers's insight:

Ghost producing is harmful to an individual not only because they don't get the credit but also they don't get nearly the amount of royalties that they deserve or any at all.

Ghost producing ruins certain artist like David Guetta. I didn't know that he used ghost producers and that really let me down as a fan. I think he should at least tell people that he has help rather then have the image that he does it by him self. This source is reliable  because one of David's ghost producers spoke out.

Adam Tipton's curator insight, October 7, 2015 7:51 PM

Recently ghostwriting has been a hot topic in hiphop, but it's no secret that many artists don't write their own lyrics. Ghost producing is a phenomenon similar to this, except it includes producers/DJ's claiming tracks that they didn't actually produce, but rather purchased from a third party.

It's kind of unavoidable in this industry, so it's not a secret when you think of it

Vincent Myers's insight:

This is just one of many examples of how ghost producing is being used in today's entertainment. The problem is so common that even record companies will use ghost producers to increase their "gains" whatever they may be.

This sub article is related to the main article because it explains a situation of a record label signing a producer that they knew used a ghost producer, then later singing the ghost producer to.

Vincent Myers's insight:

I feel that this article makes a valid point that if you produce a certain sound that you get known for that you should be the one to create it not someone else. It also states that ghost producing has been around for years and has been increasing due to the demand for new "hits" to be created.

Ghost producing can ruin the artist image. For example David Guetta is a guy I look up to I didn't know that he had help i thought he was just a musical mastermind. Finding this out really lowered his image for me.

Here is an example of an artist that does not condone ghost producing for other dj's themselves but if it is for an act or performance, he does not see it to be a problem.

The main topic relates with this one because it is about a very high profile dj saying he would never ghost produce and why he would not.

Sean Monahan's curator insight, November 6, 2014 1:46 PM

Nicky Romero has a good point on ghost producing. I understand when he says if you ghost produce with another Dj or producer the audience might get you mixed up. This source is very reliable coming from a person who has great success in this scene and knows whats going on.
