GetAtMe HotNewHits -  Kent Jones DONT MIND takes the top slot with a score of 66.2 pts... #ItsAboutTheMusic | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

Okay here’s this week’s GetAtMe HotNewHits.  These are cut that we handicap to be the next hits.  We score them by the track, demographic, market potential, the song and the hitfactor.  We add all the different scores to get our score.  Here’s the stats:

  • Kent Jones DON’T MIND 66.2 score grade B    This cut has had the great fortune of good timing (its in a great mix set area…).  After WORK by Rihanna and ONE DANCE by Drake, this cut was set up to win with a pop/dancehall style (great records for the summer pool parties and cookouts…).  This song scored highest in the track category (15 pts out of 20 pts) and the hitfactor (15.2).  Like I said the timing on this cut was key... #Hot
  • Drake TOO GOOD ft Rihanna 65.1 score grade B.   This cut is so hot but it seems to be some confusion at the label.  It seems that they are really trying to drive CONTROLLA (you might win a segment of the djs with CONTROLLA but TOO GOOD with Rihanna is a gimmie with the girls and last time I checked Drake’s core buyers are women #IJS).  This is a great song and it would be a shame to lose it in a clutter of new Drake cuts.  It seems that Drake has outgrown hiphop and hip pop is a comfortable place for him (maybe he just like diss records and beefs in the hiphop genre #lsmh).  Drake is gonna be massive in the hippop area.  Hopefully that will be his choice.  This song scored highest in the track (14pts), song (14pts) and The Hitfactor (15.1 pts).  Drake has a solid cut here (like I said with Rihanna this should be a gimmie…).
  • Alicia Keys IN COMMON 53.7pts score grade C This cut should be a smash.  The only thing that’s gonna hurt this cut will be the licensing folks and marketing people playing territory games (so if it flops Alicia, you’ll know why).  This cut could definitely blow up due to covers on youtube, covers on vine, dj mashups and remixes.  The marketing companies at times play territory games and the licensing people are just on some some really out of the loop next universe thing when it comes to online fans.  Here’s the real issue 1. Many of the fans are better at creating viral content than the pros that the labels hire and they have the army of followers (not fake followers and reviewer like many of the marketing companies employ.  Here’s a note, the fans know that the threads and review sites are bought and really don’t pay” the for pay for play trolls” any attention.  The fans have their own ideas and opinions #frfr).  Also the fans do it out of respect whereas the professional fans do it for a check #NotTheSameLove.  If the label would get the licensing groups off of youtube with licensing strikes, the fans would do covers and their fans and friends will become engaged with the new songs and they would viral (so by telling the fans, “hey don’t do covers and mashup because we feel you’re making a little money with youtube (and I do mean little), you honestly think that that’s gonna inspire fan engagement and fan loyalty.  Is it really gonna encourage fan to buy (would you if as a fan someone pissed you off)?  Let them get the youtube money and I guarantee it, they’ll have no problem skinning down $1.29 for your new cut.  This is a great song and for no reason should this song fail.  Djs are gonna love remixing this cut (a real key metric in breaking todays cuts are how many djs are making remixes for the cut (these guys don’t want the professional remixes, they want their own mixes or one of their peers (#IJS).  This song scored highest in the track (13pts) and the song (12pts).  This should be smash for Ms. Keys.  It really should..

That’s this week’s GetAtMe HotNewHits.  Our top cut this week is Kent Jones DON’T MIND.

GetAtMe This is how todays' music meetings sound #FrFr ... #ItsAboutTheMusic | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

Sometimes the simplest answers are the best.  It seems like today music business execs are hellbent on destroying music as an industry (which is what happens when your hires don’t come from retail or radio…).  Some of today’s music business solutions are so short term for the industry that some of these decisions are decisions that will one day make our industry implode.

The “Its All About The Money…” mentality has created a cottage of lazy thinkers and conmen in the music business.  It’s like all the slow thinkers in class all wound up in the music business with no respect for analytics or math (“I’ll mess up a $100,000.00 budget on a gut feeling, what you think?).  This mentality is killing our business and music is so important to our culture as a whole.  Yes at times “ITS ABOUT THE MONEY” but for some folks it’s also about betting right for themselves, investors and music fans.  Like I’ve said before, If you have to spend $400.000.00 to get a 12-17 year old music fan to spend $1.29, then you don’t have a product (“We’ll just rig the numbers and overcharge corporate advertisers to align with the fugazzi artist instead of getting kids to engage at a $1.29, yeah that’s the plan…” #JustRealTalk ).  We gotta do better as an industry and as a genre.

GetAtMe NowThatsHipHop 0001 HipHop Aint Dead, The Just Abused It... #ItsAboutTheMusic | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

https://www.mixcloud.com/reginaldshipman/getatme-nowthatshiphop-0001-hiphop-aint-dead-they-just-abused-it/

On this mix we wanted to do something different.  When I decided to do this blog, it was never about the money, It has always been about my passion as a dj for a hit song (I love the hit song…).  It didn’t matter if it was hiphop, hippop, pop, house or jazz (shit it could be country if it’s a hit…).  I love hit songs.

I wanted my blog to be about the djs, fans and our relationship with hit music.  Music is important to all cultures because it send out messages on the low on how society feels about the issues and the times.  At one time hip hop was the CNN of the urban America, now at times it seems like hiphop is a gossip tabloid on steroids.  It seems at times that hiphop seems to be about just beefs, drama and all of our artist have become little soulless chanting jukeboxes saying “It’s about the money...” (which is funny because it seems like they all wind up on VH1 BehindTheMusic crying that they’re broke and they were shorted by the labels. I guess it wasn’t all about the money…).

So I decided to start a series where I mix in real hiphop tracks that I like.  Not cuts that are necessarily today’s current hit artist, but great hiphop cuts so that we here at GetAtMe can maintain a balance and interest in this industry we call hiphop.

I’m happy for the folks that chant “It’s about the money”, I hope you the best in your ventures (everyone I know that’s about the money never says that to anyone, they just invest in real estate, stocks and bonds and defense options, but that’s just folks I know).  Hip Hop didn’t start about the money, it was about the music, the party and the community.  It has evolved into this soulless genre of dudes “trying to f*ck each others girls” and a continuing dialogue about bread chases so that they can pay to f*ck other dudes girls.  It has to get back to being about the music (at least for me).  Hip hop has come a long way from RAPPER DELIGHT by The SugarHill Gang and FRTENDS by Whodini or Public Enemy’s DON’T BELIEVE THE HYPE (now it seems that the hype is all Hip Hop wants to believe).  I know that’s not true because every day I’m blessed to have great conversation with fans and djs that just love music.  I don’t promote Rihanna for money (we don’t even talk to the labels about money.  GetAtMe has always and always will be a passion project that starts the conversation on new and interesting music…), I promote Rihanna because she consistently has great music and is a very interesting personality.  Every artist I promote, big or small is promoted based on my feeling about their music and my feelings as a fan and dj.  Period point blank.

So at least here at GetAtMe, a portion of our mixes will be dedicated to real hiphop and emerging indies who have created interesting and new music.  We’ll still handicap Hot New Hits, we’re just gonna get some balance (at least here at GetAtMe).  I’ve decided to get back to making a mix in the true form of mixtape mixes.  I have decided to commit to that.

After spending months of reading comments in hiphop threads I’ve realized, “hiphop aint dead, they just abused it…” (WingzonaPlane MIND CONTROL).  So we hope you enjoy our new installment to the GetAtMe mix family.  As always

GetAtMe So Kylie Jenner and Tyga have a sextape, and you're surprised... #ItsAboutTheMoments

GetAtMe So Kylie Jenner and Tyga have a sextape, and you're surprised... #ItsAboutTheMoments | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

So it’s been leaked that Kylie and Tyga have a mixtape and this probably is what has led to her breaking up with Tyga and now she has eyes on the next rapper looking for the come up, PartyNextDoor ( this is what’s at the top of today’s entertainment media cycle, I’m a whore to the system #lsmh.  What is it about these Kardashians with Rappers and Athletes?).   Now this isn’t surprising news (what’s a surprise is that it took this long for a sextape to come out…), what’s surprising is that folks seemed really surprised (are we really?).

Look the Kardashians are nice enough people (I guess…), I’m not a Kardashian basher.  Actually I’m very impressed with Kim (like she cares… #lsmh).  This young lady has always carried herself with immense grace under the fire of media scrutiny.  She has always turned lemons into lemonade (which is easier to do when you’re a millionaire and attractive).  She (to me…) catches all the jealousy arrows for the Kardashian family and quite frankly navigates media scrutiny better than all of our current presidential candidates (really they need to hire her as a consultant…#frfr).  Kim is not only attractive, but she is way more poised and intelligent than today’s society gives her credit for.  Being fair, Kim doesn’t have to “sit down and disappear” because certain folks are broke and don’t feel good about the opportunities that were presented to them (“suck it up…”).  It’s clear I am a Kim fan.  I’m just not sure that Kylie will be prepared for the weight that comes from trying to snatch Kim’s “Ring Of Power”, media attention.

Kylie (as all little sisters do at times…) have watched big sis and definitely picked up on some of her moves, but is she really ready for the onslaught she might be about to receive from joining the NFL of media hype (National Fine League).  The sextape ain’t the issue (they were offered over 10 million for the tape from Vivid, come on who turns that down.  Even for a millionaire, who don’t want 10 more million (only a broke MF says “I wouldn’t take it on principle”  Sh*t the 10 million is the principal #IHadToSayIt  You can never have enough millions…).  All I can say is that I hope that she’s mentally prepped to wear “That Ring” (“Precious….”)

GetAtMe- So Let Me Get This Straight, we just upload 1 mp3... #ItsAboutTheMusic

GetAtMe- So Let Me Get This Straight, we just upload 1 mp3... #ItsAboutTheMusic | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

Man yall know I try to keep it sort of light with GetAtMe (yeah right…) but there’s always some idiot that makes me tell the truth.  I really just want to review good music.

HipHop has become one huge ass fugazzi and the labels (at time trying to act like master villains..) are becoming masters of foolishness,  The labels through licensing groups have continued to attack fans and djs and chase buyers away with licensing strikes (this sh*t is so massively dumb…).  What’s worse is that they are the reason that downloads sells are dropping, not the free downloads.  Why, because the mashups, mixtapes and covers are viral influencers that trigger trends and itunes sales...

In the music business we have a process that’s called seeding (these new school music execs who are really glorified interns who’ve never work in retail or radio, have no awareness of this process.  The process is simple, we seed a 1000 (promos) for word of mouth to create 3000 sales. These free downloads are the start of the conversation whether a song is a hit or not.  It’s a very necessary process. From early adapter consumers to influencer djs, this is the starting point for a hit song.   Some of the tools that give us an indication of a song's legs are the remixes, mashups and covers that fans produce with the song.  This is who the licensing people have decided to attack in their infinite wisdom.  Your (the artist…) influencing fans. (did I mention that they were influencing fans...).  This has got to be one of the stupidest strategies in the history of business (“lets piss off(or on) the influencing fan bases in an effort to extort $1.29 out of them so we can charge the labels to do what they will do for free,,,”) #JustDumb.

The labels have one job essentially; upload an mp3 that has the market potential to sell.  That’s it.  I mean I know it’s not calculus or string theory so why is this becoming such a costly task that they have to attack the fans as shade for their incompetence (I’m not going to say theft, that’s dry snitching…).  The artist should be mindful not to allow the professional fans at the label to become the aggravant that drives a wedge between current and potential fans (its sort of like an unconscious way of hating.  “pay me while I drive your fans away cause I can’t sing or rap”  did I say this was just dumb?)

We gotta do better as an industry or one day there will be no HipHop or worse, no music industry.

GetAtMe TheWeekNd cancels performance due to Donald Trump (will The Donald get "InTheMud" with hiphop?)

GetAtMe TheWeekNd cancels performance due to Donald Trump (will The Donald get "InTheMud" with hiphop?) | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

The WeekNd made a statement.  He along with the rapper Belly cancelled performing on The Jimmy Kimmel show because Donald Trump was appearing.  The artist made the statement the he couldn’t be involved with with a situation that also involves Donald Trump due to his racist rants.  A man has to stand for something.

In this day of “I gotta get my bread mentality”, The WeekNd has put himself in the line of fire of the public relations monster that the Republicans fund (fortunately for him, they don’t like Trump either.  How long this shotgun wedding between the Republicans and Trump lasts is definitely on the clock.  “Do we hate Trump more than we hate Hillary” The Republicans mused “That’s the question” …).  The WeekNd has made a bold statement.  Why, because unlike other performers The WeekNd is on top and right in the middle of his “15 minute of fame” (dead in the middle) and it’s unusual for Pop artist who are this big to risk those “15 minutes” (especially over principle.  I’m really impressed…).  This could be a make or break decision or this decision could just cycle through the trending day to day topics, but the real question is, will Donald Trump get in the mud with Hip Hop and be condescending to young voters in the middle (many who are white, intelligent, female and hiphop fans.  Did I mention that many of these females are The WeekNd’s core fans and love him to death?  Does Donald Trump really want to battle with the Kim Kardashians and trust fund cuties that are The WeekNd loyal (these girls are not the Meghan Kelly’s on Fox and Donald, for real, they will murder you in Tumblr…)?  Will Trump risk reengaging the silent youthful majority that really delivered Barack Obama ( along with Oprah delivering the soccer moms, moms and daughters from middle America are a powerful movement.  Go ask any dad that’s  been marginalized in that house. Go ahead Donald open that huge mouth and tell them how they need to think, “I’ll get the popcorn”).  The bottomline, The WeekNd has showed an amazing amount of character (“if you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything “) and his people (who eat off of him) an amazing amount of faith in this young man decision.  Like I said, I’m impressed.   Well Donald it’s your move, I have my popcorn.

GetAtMe InDaMixxx Spotlight ft Marq Dean I CAN MAKE U DANCE ( #ICanMakeUDance )... #ItsAboutTheMusic | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

http://www.mix.dj/video/4799251/getatmeindamixxx-spotlight-ft-marq-dean-icanmakeudance/

Ok on this mix we once again spotlight new hiphouse artist Marq Dean with some of today’s top hits.  Marq Dean is on a mission to make you dance.  “Man I just know that when folks are dancing, it’s just a better energy.  Most of the stress we have today is that folks just ain’t partying like they used to.  So Imma make em dance…”  You know what Marq, That’s alright.

We start off with a dance mix of Beyonce’s SORRY (when a song gets a dance mix, it just takes it to the next level…).  This is a trending new cut (and it’s selling…) and dj’s are gonna love this dance mix.  Next we here Marq Dean’s cut to the paranoid, PARANOIA (the new version of ‘SOMEBODY’S WATCHING ME 2016).  Marq show folks that he and the dance floor with belong together on this cut.  Then we go into the new Alicia Keys IN COMMON (another great cut.  Dj’s let’s bring this one home cause it’s a great cut…).  This dance mix will be easy on your fans ears on the dancefloor, #FRFR.  Then we go into Marq Dean’s next cut EXOTIXXX.  This cut is for all the exotics all over the world (and in the Dj Booths #lsmh).  Great energy and it will drive the floor.  Next we have Drake’s new cut TOO GOOD (this one’s really strong.  Drake’s on a roll).  Drake’s people have done a great job of supplying core hiphop djs CONTROLLA and TOO GOOD for the dance clubs.  Drake may be about to leave hiphop for greener acres, Pop music.  Then we wind it up with Marq Dean’s new cut I CAN MAKE U DANCE (#ICanMakeUDance).  Once again Marq shows why he and the dancefloor and dance djs are going to be a great blend (this dude is positioned to make major move this fall #BeOnTheLookOut).

That’s this GetAtMeInDaMixxx Spotlight ft Marq Dean I CAN MAKE U DANCE (#ICanMakeUDance).  Enjoy and GetAtMe

Ok here’s this week’s GetAtMe Top Ten.  Drake move into the num 1 slot with ONE DANCE while Desiigners PANDA dropped to num 2 (both held strong, Drake sales numbers outpaced Desiigner this week and that caused the change…).  OT Genesis CUT IT has finally started to emerge (it took almost 4 to 5 months for this cut to move…) and Kent Jones DON’T MND keeps moving to the top.  Yo Gotti’s LAW remained at num 9 as it moves up and Beyonce’s SORRY came into the top ten with strong sales and urban radio play.  That’s this week’s GetAtMe Top Ten.

GetAtMe Itunes TopSellers Drake's ONE DANCE is #1... #ItsAboutTheMusic | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

You know for a while we we’re trying to decide where we wanted GetAtMe to go (and believe me it’s been a process).  So we decided that our relationship with the djs and fans outweighed industry politics.  I was slow to post numbers in the top 100 because industry folks were dumping stream numbers on itunes in an attempt to game the system (that’s an itunes problem not mine).  I came to the conclusion that fans and djs are smart enough (and I saw…) to decipher the info so it’s time to continue.

Like I’ve said before, GetAtMe is a handicapping function to inform Djs on hot new tracks and to inform engaged fans on new and exciting music.  No industry games just info.

This week Drake’s ONE DANCE is at num 1 with over 22,000 downloads a day followed by Desiigner’s PANDA.  Fifth Harmony’s WORK FROM HOME stays in the top 5 (mostly driven by youtube views) and Beyonce’s SORRY is at num 4.  FloRida’s MY HOUSE is num 5 (driven by arena play in the NBA playoffs…).

Other spotlights are The GhostTown Djs MY BOO’s resurgence with over 4000 downloads a day.  Drake has 3 cuts in the top 10, ONE DANCE, TOO GOOD and CONTROLLA (all GetAtMe handicapped).

That’s this week’s GetAtMe Itunes TopSellers.

GetAtMe Urban Airplay Scorecard- Beyonce's SORRY is still #1 in spin increases for 2 weeks... #ItsAboutTheMusic | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

Ok here’s this week’s GetAtMe Urban Airplay Scorecard. Beyonce stays at num 1 is spin increases.  These are the top 5 trending songs in urban radio based on spin increases…

Beyonce’s SORRY is num 1 for the 2nd week with over 700 spin increases stillDrake’s ONE DANCE went to num 2 from num 3 with over 600 spin increases (Drake’s on his way to another num 1…).  Kevin Gates has once again has a gainer with REALLY REALLY coming in at num 3 as a new entry (we handicapped this song 3 months ago so we knew it was real…).  At num 4 is another new entry, Kent Jones’ DON’T MIND (this song here is so strong.  Real legs #FRFR…) and at num 5 is Rihanna’s NEEDED ME (this is also a very strong cut…).

The good thing is that all of these songs are in the itunes top 200 which means urban radio is back to adding songs that are selling (if a song’s not selling on itunes it definitely can’t help you sell ads in urban radio.  Sales generate sales #RememberThat).  That’s a great sign for urban radio.   That’s this week’s GetAtMe Urban Airplay Report for 5/17/2016

GetAtMe- This is why Alicia Keys is the 1st lady of hiphop. IN COMMON is just a great song... #ItsAboutTheMusic | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

There’s a reason that Alicia Keys is one of the 1st ladies of hiphop, she always delivers.  One thing is for sure, you know that whatever she puts out is gonna be solid.

IN COMMOM is truly solid.  This “Sade_ish” (meaning that it sound like Sade, my new word…) new cut is both sexy and sultry. It reminds me of how entertainingly solid RNB/HipHop can be.  Like I constantly say, “ItsAboutTheMusic…”  Alicia asks “Who wants to know somebody like me…” well Alicia, all of us who are true music fans can’t wait to meet somebody like you.

GetAtMe TopTen Desiigner's PANDA TAKES #1... #ItsAboutTheMusic | GetAtMe | Scoop.it

Here’s this week’s GetAtMe Top Ten, PANDA finally takes num 1

  • Desiigner’s PANDA finally was able to move from num 2 to num 1 (finally Rihanna let em have the spot… #lsmh) and Drake ONE DANCE is positioned to be the next num 1 (I swear it looks like Drake and Rihanna is trading num 1s at the present moment…)
  • Rihanna’s WORK dropped to num 3 (still holding strong…) and OT Genesis CUT IT stormed up the charts out of nowhere (this cut got strong radio presence all of a sudden…)
  • Jeremih’s OUI is at num 5 and Bryson Tiller’s EXCHANGE comes in at num 6
  • Kent Jones’ DON’T MIND hits a new entry at num 7 (strong cut #DjAlert…) and Future’s LOWLIFE is at num 8.
  • Yo Gotti’s followup to DM, LAW, breaks into the top 10 at num 9 and Young Greatness MOOLAH is num 10.

That’s this week’s GetatMe TopTen.  Desiigner has shocked everyone by legitimately taking num 1.  Remember on my chart I track radio play and itunes sales so when I say its num 1 it’s for real (streams don’t really establish engagement to me, that’s like me giving points for a test drive).  I really believe that radio airplay and itunes sales are the true metrics for a song’s success.  Dj reporting starts the conversation for the other 2 areas but fans buy what they are feeling at that moment and radio plays what they feel sparks fan engagement for their station.
